Congratulations to Nico on winning 8 straight matches and coming through qualifying to win a tournament with players like Gaudio, Ferrer, Davydenko, and Safin in it. A dominating display of shotmaking and smart serving helps Nico Almagro secure his first ATP title. Hopefully this is the first of many. :woohoo:

Good luck to Nicolas in Barcelona and Estoril. :yeah:

Congrats Superstar for winning the title.

The first qualifier to win an ATP title since the legend Frenchman Jerome Haehnel at Metz in 2004.

This one was a much better field.

No, it is not a record and Hamburg has had 3 qualifiers win it and they have all been Spaniards Carretero, Portas and Aguilera.

Exactly what I've been pointing out, Almagro has a disgusting attitude, but atleast he defeated Safin (be it healthy or unhealthy), but come on people.

Fish beat Tommy in a walk over, for the last few years Houston actually has had quite a track record (especially when it comes to attracting low caliber clay players), which would explain why Roddick has been able to dominate it.

This is clay season, America is a joke on clay. Some people don't know how to deal with that yet.

Tangy the troll complaining about Valencia being a MM tournament. If Fish made it to the main round through qualies of Valencia then that would be a cause of celebration.

Congrats to Almagro. I knew this kid had it in him, from the moment I have witnessed his upsets in clay events last year. He put it all together and it couldn't have come at a better time. People always talk about Nadal, but this guy could very well be the second best young Spaniard on clay.

He is only 20.

Although to be fair Nadal is the world number two, has a slam title, has several clay TMS, several other TMS, is favourite to clean up this year on clay, is the only guy who can beat Roger Federer and tot op it all off he's younger than Almagro who has just one small tournament win.

I wouldn't really say they are worthy of comparison.

Congrats Almagro for his first title, he won against some quality opponents here. It will be interesting to see whether he will follow up this result with more successes during this clay season. I am sure he will piss off more people in the future.

Almagro beat an injured Safin. Not much different from a walkover. :)

And btw, Fish beat that dirtballer Juan Monaco and also Vince Spadea, one of the few Americans who can play on clay, so his advancement to this final isn't any more or less a fluke than Almagro. :wavey:

And as for beating Pico...doesn't really compare to beating JCF and Volandri + winning a set to a healthy Safin (cos there was nothing wrong in the 1st set)

I think Deivid is well aware of the importance of Houston for Fish, bearing in mind it's his first title in around two and a half years. But when you say that a tournament where the winner beat Ferrero, Volandri and Safin is Mickey Mouse, you do indeed resemble an ass.

That's not a humorous enquiry, that's a serious question asking whether you are the reincarnation of the poster federer express because you share a similar sense of arrogant superiority. Still, I'm not saying it isn't justified in this case.
