NZ is beautiful. I love going for drives through the countryside and up the mountains and stuff. and that's just the north isalnd, I'd imagine the south Isalnd to be even better.

Jess

and if they say 8:30, what are the odds that will happen?

Well I don't beleive a word these idiots tell me anymore
I'm thinking though that the other aeroplane has to come from Auckland so if it took off around the time the fault started on the plane we were supposed to be using it should be here around 8.30.... but that might just be wishful thinking....

Of course when the thing lands they'll have to refuel it and put food and all that stuff on....
and god knows if they've thought to get a pilot and crew to fly the thing

Angele

That's the only thing it can be though..we all know Sportsnet isn't covering any wta tennis.

I would email them to ask but I'm sure I won't get a reply
I'm sure I got weekend coverage of the Roger's on CBC last year because the night of the final ( so semi, not sure) I was baby-sitting and the tv at the hotel room was kind of screwy and only two channels were working, CBC in french and CBC in english. Both were showing tennis.

14 hours :o

The longest I've had to wait in an airport is 8 hours in Amsterdam due mainly to our travel agent screwing up

It's very hard to kill 8 hours when you have absolutly nothing to do :p

I know..but there is no other explanation..I mean didn't Sportsnet drop the contract in the beginning of 2003. There is no reason why the 2004 schedule should still have them on it

You're lucky you can sleep on the plane..I can't. No matter how tired I am I just can't get comfortable :(

By the time we left Amsterdam I had been awake about 24 hours and then I couldn't sleep on the 3 hour plane ride to Athens..so I was pretty beat. Travelling is such a pain in the ass :p

We've been given forms to claim for full compensation because we've been delayed over 12 hours. Which my parents will be very pleased about  (they had to pay for my flight)
I'd rather have just had a straightforward journey.

Any sign of players on a court yet?

Apparently this is our plane.... it's "being prepared for us now..." I may actually be going soon...

Lisbeth
01-05-2004, 01:07 AM
Kim must be about to begin. I hope Damiela is more togher this year though of course I hope she loses this particular match!

I guess I will have to sneak off and try to find a TV in a little while. My workplace really, really needs more TVs!! LOL.

That shouldn't take too long..about an hour or so I think to get the plane all ready ;)

Yup Kim and Dani are warming up right now :D

btw I would take straightforward any day as well :) Good news is after so many hours without sleep you're still very coherent lol :D

Kim looks really nice, but the outfit's not new :( Her hair's straight and very blonde.

No I don't think she'll be concerned ;) ..those little blips tend to cause her to refocus.

Lisbeth
01-05-2004, 01:25 AM
She broke back though. 5-1.

I hope she actually is playing well. I also hope she gets tougher matches than this leading into the AO. I don't think last year she was challenged enough ... and I really have my heart set on that Lleyki double this year.

Danni
01-05-2004, 01:25 AM
yay! first set in like 5 minutes. :D

Lisbeth
01-05-2004, 01:26 AM
I guess I'll just try to watch some of the doubles! This would be over by the time I left.

Jess
01-05-2004, 01:27 AM
Well that certainly looked pretty decicive... it's just is she playing well or is Dani just rubbish?
The other girls in the group aren't likely to be that good though are they? Mandula... (I remember when they played at the AO last year) and Molik.... maybe there will be tougher matches in Sydney.

Danni
01-05-2004, 01:28 AM
I wonder why Kim wasn't at lleyton's match
Kim's fisrt serve sucks.

Lisbeth
01-05-2004, 01:29 AM
She probably had to practise with Xavier for the doubles.

I'm almost feeling sorry for Dani now.... maybe I'm just sleep depreived.

Jess
01-05-2004, 01:35 AM
Whose got the UE'S... are you talking about Kim or Dani?

Danni
01-05-2004, 01:36 AM
Wow! Kim just won an amazing point, I can't explain but she was running from side to side doing the splits and then Dani did a drop shot and it so looked like Kim would never make it but she did and hit a winner :yeah:

Lisbeth

Jess

Ileana have you read the article about Kim's ring? Apparently some newspaper contacted diamond people (appraisers or something) and they valued the diamond at $200,000

Angele
01-05-2004, 03:39 PM
Ah so you've seen it then... just ignore my post :o You were only off by about $180,000 though, that's not bad :p

Ah so you've seen it then... just ignore my post :o You were only off by about $180,000 though, that's not bad :p

Yeah that's what I said in CCL.. I figured around 20-30 grand..my sis figured about 50 grand. Looks like she was closest :p

Angele
01-05-2004, 03:43 PM
I should of checked CCL before I posted :o :p

Jo and I were talking about it the other day and she said one of her friends was guessing about $120,000 and I was like no, no way, it's never that expensive :tape:

Chesty Larue
01-05-2004, 03:47 PM
Well the thing that threw me was the size. They said it's between 4 and 5 carats  :o

We were estimating about 2 carats..it's pretty much double what I was thinking :p

Angele
01-05-2004, 03:49 PM
My knowledge of diamonds and carats is pretty limited :o Looking at the ring all I could say is that it's big. What would a 'normal' engagement ring be like?

Last night I might of gotten 4-5 hours of sleep, maybe! Lately, more nights than not have been spent crying myself to sleep because I was so nervous :o And now I'm going to have to do all this all over again in who knows how many weeks. I got here alright and even was just in time for the uni interview - It only took just over an hour - hardly worth the 15,000 mile journey!

:wavey: thread

and a  and also a shared  and :fiery: for my fellow Canadians, especially :angel:e, who was the two-time recipient of bad news.

I actually wept a little for the team. They came so close and the way that final goal went in...that was a heartbreaker.

Few people, certainly not I, expected them to come this far, and I thought they surprised people with their skill.

As for Fleury, I blame the Pittsburgh Penguins for keeping him on the team. Asking an eighteen-year old goalie to bail out the worst team in the league is way too much too ask imo. He will regain his confidence, but he'd be better off doing it in junior hockey at this point.

I think the ring is nice. What's the problem?;)

Lisbeth
01-05-2004, 10:01 PM
Hello Dagmar! Did you have a nice Christmas etc?

Jess
01-05-2004, 10:03 PM
I think the ring is nice. What's the problem?;)

I think the ring is lovely! It's just a LOT of money. But if my boyfriend wanted to spend $200,000 on my engagement ring I don't think I'd say no

Lisbeth
01-05-2004, 10:08 PM
I'm suspicious about ANY jewellery valuation frankly given all the variables involved. But it's a lovely ring and I guess of you went by the formulae (eg the "one month salary" thing), it's probably well within Lleyton's range anyway.

Traditionally, one reason for an expensive ring was so the woman would have a source of income if she was widowed, however I don't think Kim has to worry about that!

dagmar7
01-05-2004, 10:09 PM
Hello Dagmar! Did you have a nice Christmas etc?

Hey, Jane.:)

Yes, thanks I did. It was fairly rural, which made for a nice change.

I hadn't been skiing in a while though, and to quote the illustrious Kim, "I came back as a stiff!"

And yourself?

Jess
01-05-2004, 10:11 PM
lol - yeah I guess if you're going by the one month salary thing it's about right! But yeah you can't get an accurate valuation on something like that by looking at pictures...

dagmar7
01-05-2004, 10:12 PM
I think the ring is lovely! It's just a LOT of money. But if my boyfriend wanted to spend $200,000 on my engagement ring I don't think I'd say no

lol...I like the square-cut--it suits Kim's hand. It's a nice classical style: I was fearful of heart shaped things after the necklace.

Lisbeth
01-05-2004, 10:15 PM
Diamond alone have four (I think?) different variables all of which affect price, though I'm pretty sure Kim's would be high on all - it certainly looks like a quality diamond! I doubt any really reputable jeweller would value a diamond from a photo and I doubt Kim lent it to them for the purpose, LOL.

I had a nice Christmas too thanks Dagmar - got lots done around the house and caught up with several friends home from overseas or interstate which was nice. My in-laws had the usual implosion but we managed to stay on the outer rim of it all!

Jess
01-05-2004, 10:18 PM
I was fearful of heart shaped things after the necklace.

 Oh goodness can you imagine anything worse  .... and famous people do sometimes go for the outstandiingly tacky.... he choose well.. :p

Lisbeth
01-05-2004, 10:22 PM
I have a friend with a beautiful heart shaped 1 carat wedding ring, but she's the only girl I know who could get away with it! She's very feminine and very, very dramatic!

dagmar7
01-05-2004, 10:24 PM
To be fair to Lleyton, I'm pretty sure the heart shaped necklace was supposedly either a present from the town of Bree or from Ai Sugiyama.

In any case...cut, colour, clarity and carat (weight)...I think those are the four.:o

lol at the in-law implosion, Jane. It sounds like it all went very well. I think I must look really cold because I got a lot of blankets, coat, scarves etc. It was pretty funny.:D

Jess
01-05-2004, 10:25 PM
I have a friend with a beautiful heart shaped 1 carat wedding ring, but she's the only girl I know who could get away with it! She's very feminine and very, very dramatic!

Maybe it can look good then  but with a diamond that big it would be very difficult :p

Lisbeth
01-05-2004, 10:28 PM
Ha! Well you won't be cold anymore, I guess! I must look thirsty because every single year we get at least 3 sets of glasses and a jug of some sort!!

I think you're right about the necklace (and the diamonds!).

Yes I think a gazillion carat diamond definitely calls for a classic setting.

dagmar7
01-05-2004, 10:31 PM

Exactly, it's one of those things that not everyone (or most) have the personality/aura for...but maybe I'm just jealous of those who can wear more accessories.

Who is your third favourite Hopman Cup team? Mine is France, closely followed by Russia...now that there is no more Canada, of course.

Lisbeth
01-05-2004, 10:34 PM
Mine is France too. I like Amelie a lot. Once Kim gets her slam I'll be hoping for Amelie to get one too.

Jess
01-05-2004, 10:34 PM
I don't think I have a third favourite team... NZ don't exactly have many players  and the UK aren't playing on account of having no decent women players  so I shall have to continue supporting Australia/Belgium as there is no one else.

Lisbeth
01-05-2004, 10:35 PM
I never thought about it but there aren't really any top NZ tennis players atm are there?

Jess
01-05-2004, 10:42 PM
No - the top NZ player at the moment is Mark Nielson who is in the 500's I think. We're not great at tennis

dagmar7
01-05-2004, 10:44 PM
Yeah, we can both cheer for France for the other pool. That was a close one against Russia. I see Safin finally conquered the wily Fabrice Santoro.:)

I like Amelie a lot too. I'd love to see Kim win the Aus. Open and Amelie RG, but this is off in fantasy land, I know...:o

I can't name any NZ players. Are you from New Zealand, Jessica?

What about Anne Keothavong (sp.) for GB. She looks sort of promising. If Maureen Drake is in qualifying...no offense to Maureen :worship:, but then surely Anne could qualify.

In any cases, I guess Henman and Rusedski are busy in their atp tournaments.

Jess

I can't name many NZ players  they're not that well known. Anne Keothavong's ranked about 180 I think and they keep saying she's a promising junior but she's got to be at least 20 now and there hasn't been any improvement in the 2 years I've lived in England

Yeah I'm from NZ and here at the moment for uni interviews - although I live in London.

Lisbeth
01-05-2004, 10:51 PM
NZ actually does very well at sport generally, especially considering its size. Clearly tennis is juts not a priority there!

Jess
01-05-2004, 10:53 PM
Yeah - we're quite good at rugby (this years WC aside...) tennis just isn't that popular and most of the players that are talked about are australian.

Lisbeth
01-05-2004, 10:56 PM
netball too, I think (?), and not at all bad at cricket either though the team is currently a bit inexperienced.

I have to say, much as Kiwis and Aussies like to rib each other, an NZ player would definitely get a great reception at the AO!

Jess
01-05-2004, 10:58 PM
Yeah they would - it's not really malicious teasing is it? I don't really follow netball as in England you can never read anything about it... I think the national team are quite good though.
And I HATE cricket  in England it's everywhere and I don't understand it and it's awful.. Give me Lleyton playing tennis anyday :p

dagmar7
01-05-2004, 11:00 PM
NZ is kind of a sport powerhouse for its size. Good at sailing too, I recall, which makes sense...

I think Keothavong had some injury problems. I think she still can be considered promising.

I'm pretty hyped on our Frank Dancevic and he's ranked at about 200 in the world. I think he would have given Lleyton a more interesting match than Attila Savolt though, but as I've never seen Savolt play that's just pure bias talking.;)

Lisbeth
01-05-2004, 11:02 PM
Yeah I'm not a cricket fan either. I probably have to go now Jessica, hope you have a good time in NZ!

Jess
01-05-2004, 11:02 PM
lol - yeah Sailing's pretty big here - there's enough water around

I don't think Keothavong's had many injuries - there's another girl - Elena Baltacha who was last years "promising hope" when she reached 3rd rnd at Wimbledon - but she's always ill so has faded hugely.

I haven't heard of Dancevic though

Jess
01-05-2004, 11:04 PM

At least maybe you won't be having it right in the middle of the Lleyki match. :)

Angele  That's awful to have it put back again  Hope you're okay.

I got here alright and even was just in time for the uni interview - It only took just over an hour - hardly worth the 15,000 mile journey!

and $200,000 on a ring.... that's a LOT of money!

glad that you made it safely

Hey, Jane.:)

Yes, thanks I did. It was fairly rural, which made for a nice change.

I hadn't been skiing in a while though, and to quote the illustrious Kim, "I came back as a stiff!"

And yourself?

:wavey: dagmar

happy new year fellow skier

preparation is everything when it comes to skiing; after approx. 10 months of regular fitness sessions, i can tell you that i never skied so well and without any sore spots

i'm just looking forward to my next skiing week

:wavey: dani, although I don't think you're still here...a happy 2004 to you too.:D

Yeah, I did some stretching and my cardio-fitness isn't bad, but I was obviously not prepared enough.

Also, I was having fun so I probably kind of overdid it.

Skiing week--that sounds great.:D

More belated new year's greetings to your fine self.:D

I'm pretty good. I had a nice relaxing holiday and don't feel back in my work rhythm at all.

Oh well.

I read that one of the Williams sisters will most likely receive a wildcard for the Adidas in Sydney--that tournament really has a spectacular field.

Edit: How are things with you? How's the new apartment with the fabulous paint job?:D

apartment!:yeah::D
It's almost finished, the result is great! We both were right, it's become our space!
We're moving in next week.
Tim's pretty healthy too, only his memory, but that's already a lost case.

For the rest I'm fine, back to work after some days of well deserved :p rest, but it's way to hectic these days...rolleyes: Everybody wants everything right now.... For the firs ttime I get stressed at work!:p

Kim's ring is frontpage news in ALL papers! You cqn even bet in one paper when the wedding will be!:o
And I can't wait till later today/tomorrow, I think we're ALL going to win, us Lleyki's can't lose..:p
But I'm almost 100% sure Bel is going to win!:o

Congrats on your new home. It sounds lovely.:D

I reckon that Belgium is the favourite at this point, but I'm cheering for a France/Australia final so we're going to have to be on opposite sides for this one--in the nicest possible way, of course...

lol at ring mania--it is out of control.;) I expect sales of engagement rings to escalate, especially in Belgium.:p

The Rock brings some to ideas, I think!:p

My best friend was proposed too, last week!:D They're getting married on 24th December 04. By then, her youngest one (my goddaughter  ) can walk and the kids can be brideskids!

Yup, I really expect a lot of so called 'copies', but it's never as good as the original--and probably not expensive.

I think The Rock is specially designed for Kim, Lleyt said how he wanted it. Cos I don't know if you can get such a diamond ring in every shop, at least not in Antwerp, the centre of diamonds.

And our new home, it's feels great to say 'our home'!

The moroon living room is the best!:p;), Tim bought me a great candlestick with 9 arms, a really big one, it just the icing on the cake!:p

Yeah that's a given..there is no store that's going to have a ring that size. It's not really unusual though..my cousin had the engagement ring he gave to his girlfriend made. He took the aspect of a few different rings and combined them and had it made ;)

My mom saw a pic of The Rock and told my dad she wanted one like that ;) I told my dad he better start saving :p

:wavey: Ileana...

I'm a slow poster today as I am 'working'.:o

Elke, I love the sound of the maroon room.:D
I figured the ring was custom made--not just because of the truly outstanding rock--but because it suits Kim so perfectly.

Congrats to your friend and her romantic Christmas wedding plans.

There's just a daily magazine on tv, and there was an item about the 'love match'...
They went to some clubs and interviewed some 'older' couples, who often play against each other. They litterally said they used all kind of trics to beat eachother, it's great to see those oldies play and look mad to each other, one woman was even furious!:o:haha:

The best advice they gave to kim and Lleyton is to leave the match on the court, and mak everything up later in bed..:o (This comes from 60+ people!:p)

Ileana, you choker lovin' sportsfan!! :wavey:

oh ewww :tape: Bad mental image :o

That's me! :D :wavey:

Even later that day I went bowling with some friend and there was another Junior hockey tournie going on..I started cheering for one team and within 5 minutes the other team scored  Then one of my friends was destroying the rest of us in bowling..so I decided to bring my great talent to him ..by cheering for him..and of course the first shot I was cheering he missed completely and didn't hit a pin :o

I gotta start cheering for Justine :p

I don't know. I think it's cool that the fire (competitive and otherwise) still burns after sixty.

Cheering for players you don't like never works...the strange deities of sport can tell that one's heart is not sincere.

A canadian team winning the Stanley Cup would make me feel better about the situation, but this is also difficult..
