Stopping by for a sec.

Uggh how depressing. I won't be able to chat AO with you guys at least for the 1st week. Second week maybe. My computer at home crashed so I've been living off the internet at my nan's before it gets dark and the one I use at school during my computer accounting class.
That sucks :( Well just pop on whenever you can and I'm sure whoever's here will be more than happy to fill you in on the day's activity :)

Goonergal
01-19-2004, 12:24 AM
The same thing happened, but to a lesser extent, when I first got my braces but they gave me wax to put on top of the braces but I ran out of that ages ago and the hospital didn't give me any for the hooks :(

 @ the hospital. Your hospital hasn't been treating you well lately

 @ the hospital. Your hospital hasn't been treating you well lately

Well the doctor is definetly going to hear from me  Last night my uncle was over and he asked if I was still mad at the doctor and I said yes and then he was like as much as you were before? And my dad answered that I wasn't but I said that indeed I was. My aunt said well good for you, you'll have to get it off your chest to feel better. And then my dad laughed and said he bets the doctor is going to laugh  If I get mad at him ( the doctor) and he has the nerve to laugh, I might just jump him :o

why did you have jaw surgery :o

that sounds painful. can't eat :o that's torture!

and what did this bitch doctor do to you?

how do you sleep with your head up?

I think my top jaw was both too narrow and not forward enough but I'm not 100% sure (I'll get back to why later). It wasn't too painful although it might have been without my pain killers ;) I didn't feel too much pain though... discomfort yes but not really pain. As for sleeping, I just kind of prop my head up with a lot of pillows. Not too comfortable so as a result I haven't slept too much the last two weeks :o

Well the doctor is a jerk  When I had my first consultation with him ( to decide if I was going to have the surgery or not) he told me that my jaw would not be wired shut and that after two weeks I would be back to normal. He also said that the problem with my jaw was that it wasn't wide enough. Anyways the operation sounded simple enough so we didn't ask too many questions and didn't really find out what would happen if I didn't get it done. Anyways I was fine with everything, it didn't sound too bad. Anyways the day before my operation I went to the hospital for the last minute things... blood work, check-up, molds, etc... I didn't speak to my doctor but instead to some kind of intern. He's the one that informed me that my jaw would in fact be wired shut, for 4-6 weeks  He also said something about having to move my jaw forward but he's not my doctor so he didn't know all the details. Anyways by that time it was too late to go back on my decision because when I made my decision to have the surgery my braces were put on a certain way. Had I not had the surgery, the work with my braces would of been different. I don't know how different because again, we didn't bother to find out.

With Moya and El Aynaoui withdrawing and Schuettler out, the top half of the draw has really opened up.

I see Mardy Fish was Karlovic's latest victim.:( In three tiebreaks, of course.

El Aynaoui out is a relief, safin won in 4 sets in a sense its

on a more general note i've problem staying up (very) late; life coverage starts for me at 1 or 2 a.m so during the first week i'll probably be online for aus night sessions only - i'll keep myself in form for 1 (or even 2) finals :D

I agree. It's good to see Marat Safin back in action. I didn't think he'd have too much trouble with Brian Vahaly, but with Safin one never knows.

You are relieved that Younes is gone? I'm not. I have bad memories of last year's match, but I don't particularly fear the El Aynaoui, plus I don't want the top half of the draw to become too feeble compared to the bottom half.

I sort of feel that it already is.

Edit: oh, and I totally agree about taped matches, although if I really like a player (and he won:o) I'll watch anyway.:o

Hear hear!

Did you have the misfortune to see that piece they did on him before the match? It was to the tune of Trapt's "Headstrong." At one point, he was mimicking a reporter and asked himself, "How does it feel to be the future of American tennis?" He replied to himself, "If I hear that fucking question one more time--"

If Lleyton did that, there'd be hell to pay. With Roddick, it's all about his great personality

Ditto. Well, that, and the fact I really don't think he's all that great. Is he good? Yes, certainly, quite good. He's improved quite a bit since Ll beat him in the '01 USO. But he's nowhere near as good Patty Mac and Cliffy D want you to believe he is. Take away his serve and he's a very ordinary player.

Plus I think he behaves like a jackass.

Man, you are asking the wrong person :p I'm not a tennis expert, and I'm definitely not an expert on American tennis players :p

But to my knowledge, no. I mean, I'm sure there are some pretty good players coming up, but nobody so good that there's been hype.

I think players like Hopkins and Cargill and Laura Granville will probably prove to be pretty solid Top 50 players, in the tradition of people like Lisa Raymond and Corina Morariu. Ashley Harkleroad is probably the best shot at a Top 20ish player, though I think Granville could get up there too if she gets a little more consistent.

Did you watch any of it last night? I could only stomach the first set :p Before the match started, Patty Mac and Cliffy D were talking  and saying something about how never before in the history of tennis have this many top players been so young, yadda yadda. They mentioned PN and JCF and Ll, and then went on to their beloved Roddick, and how HE'S number one but still has SO much room for improvement in his game and how he'll be SO much better.

As if all the other guys have stopped developing and Roddick will leave them behind and move on to a higher plane

I think the people who are in charge of television coverage and even tennis promition in general need to realize that tennis absolutely cannot be a star sport, and by that I mean you can't promote the players and turn some players into stars, that's just not going to work. Tennis needs to be promoted more as a sport. I mean of course promote some players but promote all the top players, not just players from x country or players that are willing to pose in their bathing suits :tape: You could always assume that if you do have stars that people are going to tune in to see those stars but the problem with that is that in tennis, you can only show one match at a time. It's not like some individual sports, like golf, where you can show all the players and it's not like figure skating, where a program lasts for 3 minutes so you'll eventually see the star if you keep watching. If people tune into tennis to see a certain player and they aren't playing, their going to turn off the tv, not wait 4 hours for that person's match to come on.

Kim's match is the first night match at 7:30pm..so about 15 hours from now lol :p

Thanks for the info.

So I take it that Kim was just a spectator at the Adidas Internations for Lleyton, or did she go down to Melbourne to train and work on her ankle???

She has had some bad luck with that ankle recently! I hope it is going to be ok and that this isn't the beginning of the end or anything like that

So her game is tomorrow morning for me :) ....I might have to try and find a pub that screens the tennis.

Yup, Kim stayed in Sydney to support Lleyton  They went to Melbourne either Saturday or Sunday I guess... sunday she held a press conference to announce she wans't at 100% but was playing anyway!

Nope she stayed in Sydney watching Lleyton and doing some light training.

It's actually not her right ankle this time..it's her left. It's more of a foot injury..bone bruise to be exact. She might need surgery on it in the future..but for now her doctors have said she won't damage it further by playing on it.

It's all been very confusing

Oooo....sounds like a bit of a worry if she is acutally admitting that she isn't in the best form. I can't wait to see how she goes in her first match.

What time does Lley play?

Lleyton will probaby be a few hours before Kim.

Play starts at 11:00am

Federer/Bogolomov Jr.
Venus/Harkleroad
Lleyton/Mamit

Then 7:30pm

Kim/Weingartner
Scud/..some dude lol :p

Lleyton is the third match on centre court after Roger and Venus. Play on that court starts at 11 Melbourne time so I guess Lleyton will be up sometime in the afternoon, maybe around 2 or 3...

Well we haven't really gotten that much concrete evidence about Kim's injury. From what I've beena ble to understand though, it's something that's never quite going to go away and will probably eventually require surgery :(

Okay, I'm not a doctor (I should have had Amanda change my name to Dr. Lusty MacBreast :p) but it doesn't make sense to me that a bone bruise would require surgery. It's just a very deep bruise. If it were TOO deep, it seems like it would fracture or shatter the bone, in which case she wouldn't be playing at all.

At least, that's how it seems to me :p

Lleyton said Achilles though

What does he know :p

I think Elke probably had it closest..she said that her actual injury was causing inflammation in her achilles.

Meaning it's not an achilles injury..but her achilles is being affected as a by product of the injury.

When they asked her about it in that little aus open interview she said it was hard to explain :p I think she doesn't want to get into details about it..the only thing she said was bone bruise.

I had a GREAt time! It was kinda weird getting on a bus of strangers (45 people plus tour manager and driver) but 16 days later I have so many wonderful new friends.

We all got on really well and as you're literally "living" with everyone 24/7 you make friends very quickly! They were a very full 16 days (late nights, 6:15am wake up calls!) and while it is nice to have time to myself again, I am going to miss everyone....alot.

I will send you an email (probably tomorrow) about all the happenings, sites etc. on tour.

Oh, and the bus driver was a cutie, and so sweet :hearts: He is an Aussie, 26 years old, and taking a break from his work over in Australia (which I'm not sure what he does but I think he said he was an engineer) to work over in the UK. But alas, he has a girlfriend :(

Too bad about the cute aussie being taken :( But you've still got a lot of time left on your trip so plenty of time to meet some cute eligible guys

The girls on tour were great, and I really have made some great new friends. Most of the bus were Aussies, and most of the guys consumed WAY too much alcohol! Haggis threw up on a regular basis   But "my" bus driver was just gorgeous!

I don't see how somebody could throw up because of alcohol and then keep drinking :o I got sick about 9 months ago and I haven't had any alcohol since :o

I'm glad you made a lot of friends! I'm sure a lot of those you'll never lose contact with and that's great :)

We, "sensible ones", spent most of the trip in constant wonder (and disgust) at how these guys could continue to drink so much. But I have loads of email addresses now from all the nice, wonderful, lovely, people I met (bus driver too :p ) and we will keep in contact which will be great.

I think I'm going to go fairly soon as I am absolutely knackered! I have lots of sleep to catch up on :o

I really don't see how some guys can drink so much. I know some of my guy friends who've spent entire days drinking, like from 10 in the morning to past midnight :o I feel sick just thinking about it lol

I have to go soon as well, in about 15 minutes. Hopefully we'll have a chance to have a nice long chat soon!

Can't say I'm surprised it took two guys to smash it out of her head!:p:o

*She'll have a full box of support, with all the new friends she's made when they were in Melbourne for DC, Kim and Caroline went out A LOT!:p
*Venus Williams was one of the first ones to congratulate Kim and Lleyton with their engagement.
*Kim's doctor from Bree/Genk left for Melbourne last Thursday, cos kim feels more comfortable with him, cos he knows every part of her body like no one else does (excuse me, lleyt!:o:p)
*Malisse will be very motivated to win vs Kucera, cos he then will play Lleyton, they are pretty good mates, cos of the Kim connection. He has a special uotfit (puma) for him designed: red shirt, black shorts and red shoes! Name: Diablo
