only Germans will get a WC.

is that offical. I could imagine they give one wc to costa, a former champion and rg-champion...or maybe philippoussis..

for sure schüttler and kohlschreiber will get wc and maybe greul

and last but not least henman...I am quite sure he would get one

usually only Germans get a WC that's a kind of deal.
Ferrero wanted one last or the year before but he didn't get one.

I think Torsten Popp will get a wildcard. He has won the German Open in January. The winner of the German Open has always received a wildcard for this tournament in the past (for example Philipp Petschner last year).

Does anybody know that exactly? Somewhere I read, Torsten Popp would get a wild card for "a atp event in germany" - not especially for Hamburg. I think it would indeed make more sense to give the champion a wild card for halle on grass - as the championships are played in carpet and the winner often is someohne as horrible on clay as petzschner is.

I'll give you a breakdown.

German Champion 2005: Torsten Popp
Wildcards 2006: ?

German Champion 2004: Philipp Petschner
Wildcards 2005: Petschner, Waske, Schüttler, Burgsmüller

German Champion 2003: Maximilian Abel
Wildcards 2004: Abel, Mayer, Burgsmüller, Haas

German Champion 2002: Markus Hantschk
Wildcards 2003: Hantschk, Kiefer, Burgsmüller, Waske

German Champion 2001: Christian Vinck
Wildcards 2002: Vinck, Phau, Burgsmüller, Kohlschreiber

I think it's very likely that Torsten Popp is going to receive a wildcard this year.

German Championship in december it is. :p

As ZackBusner said, this year I only read that Torsten Popp will get a wildcard for an ATP tournament.

Maybe they changed it, because last year the tournament director in Hamburg was angry, because the DTB forced them to give wc's to German players only.

imo Florian Mayer should be sure, then Popp, Waske, Kohlschreiber, Schuettler, Greul, Phau, Beck, Zverev, Gremelmayr. These players should be the candidates.

And don't forget that the tournaments in Germany are throwing wildcards at Waske all the time, so I fear he will get one again this year.

Well, Waske isn't the worst option. I'm very happy as long as I don't have to read that Burgsmüller gets one.

Mayer, Phau and Schüttler are not on the qualifying entry list. May be it's because they already know they will get wild cards? Schüttler even writes on his home page he will start in Hamburg.

Agree about Burgsmüller. Waske will receive a WC for Munich and I guess the chances are quite good that he'll also get one for Halle. Unless he has some (very) good results in Casablanca and Munich, I think it is rather unlikely for him getting a WC for Hamburg though. But I hope I am wrong.

Hopefully not! 4 Wildcards are enough, don't you think?

BTW, the weather is going to be great this week (between 20 till 23 degrees and sunny). Why do I have the feeling that we'll have 10 degrees and rain during the tournament week? :fiery:

I just checked and he had WCs in 1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 (why not in 2000?). Never reached third round.

Its always like that in Hamburg! :( Pretty good weather 2-3 weeks before the tourney and then at the tourney I am usually freezing my ass off. The doubles final which took place after the singles final was horrible due to the cold temperature (14-15 °C). Without jacket, you're doomed.

I know what you mean. I went there on Wednesday last year and got a very bad cold. It must be horrible to play in these conditions. That's why I loved the timing of the women's tourney. It was always in the first week of May and we mostly had pretty good weather (except for 2002). It's a shame that they sold it to Philadelphia.

5 days till TMS HAMBURGI think the TV structure here is a lot different than in europe. here we have different cable companies - some of them have TTC and some don't. if you're gonna be staying in a hotel or something I really doubt you'd be able to watch it, but it just depends on what city you're in, who the cable provider there is, and if they've added it to their lineups... sorry this probably doesn't help much but we have a weird system here :(

To second Deb, I travel a fair bit and would deem it highly unlikely that wherever you are staying would have access to the Tennis Channel. Sorry. Then again, you're traveling. Won't you want to visit the McDonalds, Home Depot and Wal-Mart in whatever cities you'll be staying in?
