Yeah, I thought that was kind of strange too. He will play DC in Bulgaria, then fly to the US, then back to Europe again?

I hope he doesn't try to play too much and get himself tired  I know he is a young man, but all that tennis plus all that travelling can not be easy on anyone.

He should tank in Houston, and make sure he is ready for the better clay events. He is meant to have family in the area, so that could be the reason he is playing there.

Maybe he wants to have a tournament in clay before in the tough clay tournaments? Clay is not his best surface and he havent play clay for a while

There are 2 months of clay tournaments, he could have easily played in Valencia. More practical as in travel time from DC to Spain to Monaco.

Then there is either Barcelona/Casachallenger, or after that Estoril/Munich before Rome and Hamburg.

Yes, of course that's the case and as long as he is healthy that is what counts.

I mean we can all voice our views on something, this one I don't agree with, but he's done it. Just hope he can perform well when he gets back to Europe when he plays the classy players on the surface.

I'm also part of those who think Marcos should've stayed in Europe to prepare Monte Carlo coming up. Valencia would have been better in my opinion. BUT he made the decision to go to the States. I think he has a staff surrounding him who can advice him wisely. If they were all ok that he plays in Houston, it's ok for me too. I can only cheer for the guy and wish that he doesn't get injured or something that might cause him trouble for the upcoming TMS. :)

Marcos is receiving a substantial amount of appearance money in Houston. Explains perhaps why he is also a wild-card....

Guys I thought Baggy was playing today. But I can't find any results. Roddick's match which was supposed to take place after Baggy's has finished. Does anyone know what's going on?

They will be playing 7 pm Central Time - which is my time zone...and it now 4:57 so he will be on in about two hours today. Roddick will then play after Marcos.

Good luck today Baggy! :)

I doubt it. It's so hard to find any information at all from this tournament. No scoreboard, no stats, it sucks :(

Vincent Spadea def. Marcos Baghdatis(4) 6-2, 3-1 ret.

He should not press that hard of himself. I think it was wrong going to Houston. Now lets hope this not serious and he will be ok for Monte Carlo.

Marcos said after the game:

"I don't really know what it is yet. Maybe the nerve is squeezed. I just felt pain coming down through my leg. Maybe fatigue has something to do with it. Since Australia I've been playing all the time, working hard. I haven't wanted to stop."

I had been busy yesterday and didn't get on here or the ATP site til today. I was so surprised that Marcos had retired. I hope the problem is not serious. Maybe it is just as he said he has been playing so much. I hope a little rest will do him good ;)

Just listened to Marcos's interview on the ATP site. He says he thinks it's due to fatigue. He will wait and see if the pain is still present when he wakes up, the next day. If so, he will stop playing. So no Monte Carlo. He wants to be fit for the middle of the season.

Get well soon.
