Rising Australian tennis stars Todd Reid and Samantha Stosur have secured wildcards for next month's Australian Open after winning their playoffs at Melbourne Park.

Sydney teenager Reid, who has been a hitting partner for Australia's Davis Cup team this year, beat Joe Sirianni in four sets 6-0 6-7 6-1 6-3.

Gold Coast player Stosur, who made the third round of the 2003 Open after earning a wildcard, was too good for Christina Wheeler 7-6 6-3.

Both matches started on the outside courts but finished on Rod Laver Arena's centre court after rain interrupted their matches - giving all four players their first hitouts on Rebound Ace.

Reid and Stosur's victories came at the end of a 16-player knockout tournament as part of a 10-day training camp for some of Australia's best tennis prospects.

"It was great that they gave everyone a chance to win a wildcard and it's a great relief to win," Reid said.

"I feel I've earned my place now and can just concentrate on getting prepared for the Australian Open."
