Johansson gets first WC

Adelaide, December 5 - Twenty-eight year old Swede, THOMAS JOHANSSON, who has been on the sidelines for all of 2003, has accepted a wild card into the 2004 AAPT Championships in Adelaide, starting at Memorial Drive on January 5.

Johansson, who won the 2002 Australian Open, has not played a match since November last year, when he lost to Roger Federer at the Tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai. He sustained injuries in the latter half of 2002, and was forced to withdraw from the US Open because of a shoulder injury. The shoulder problem put pressure on the rest of his body and, as a result, he underwent knee surgery last February. He subsequently missed the remainder of this year because of rehabilitation.

THOMAS ENQVIST, MAGNUS NORMAN, SCOTT DRAPER and WAYNE ARTHURS will have to fight it out in the qualifying rounds, subject to the allocation of the remaining two wild cards (to be announced closer to the event).
