La Quinta... I don't know, i don't think so, I think it's the Esmerelda and a Hyatt where the players stay. But that exhibition before the tourney is at La Quinta and I remember we saw signs for it, so it's closeby.

Thats the La Quinta resort. My mom has done flowers and stuff for parties there and I've gone with her a few times. They have tons of tennis courts, even clay and grass courts, and that one he's practicing on is the 'stadium' court. It has an umpire chair and steps for seats on the other side of the court (like the IW practice courts). What can I say...I was bored so I did some exploring while we were there lol :lol:

Anyways, I'd heard that some of the top players (Andy, Andre..) stay there because they have these little condo type things and there are courts that they made similar to the IW courts right there, so I guess its true. :shrug:

It must be, because the same 4 guys didn't show up at all all weekend except to play their matches - Andy, Andre, Lleyton, and Tommy.

I sat in the umpire chair :sobbing:.

Doug Spreen has been a valued member of Team Roddick since late 2003. Working as Andy’s trainer, Doug travels the circuit with Andy as well as working with him during the off season.

Now Doug will soon be providing exclusive information and tidbits on Andy’s physical condition and generally what Andy is doing on and off the court on andyroddick.com. Watch for his regular updates on the website starting this week as Andy begins the Nasdaq tournament.

Some background on Doug: After graduating from Mariemont High School, Doug crossed the border to attend Indiana University, where he earned a degree in athletic training/sports medicine.

Out of college, Spreen secured a position with the Cincinnati Reds baseball team, serving as assistant trainer, a position he held until 1994, when the major league baseball strike caused his career to take a turn in a different direction. In 1995, Doug was hired by the ATP, and the rest, as they say, is history.

There you have it: the official “How to” of becoming an athletic trainer. You cannot get better than Doug.

It is no surprise then, that he was recruited by Team Roddick, joining a Dream Team of support staff. The goal of course was to create a network of experts who could help Andy enjoy a long and successful career. Doug has certainly been a great help to Andy and the team. And we can look forward to hearing from an expert’s mind some “inside information” from the Roddick camp, and perhaps great tennis and performance tips that aspiring tennis pros can benefit from!

"After a tough loss in Indian Wells we did spend a few days in Austin. More than anything we were just spending the days practicing and making sure Andy is ready to go in Miami.

The most important thing for me to make sure that Andy is feeling good and we used those few days to make sure his body feels good. We wanted him feeling good and ready to go when we got to Miami this week. Also those few days are a good mental break for Andy to be home and enjoy Austin for a few days. We did a few days of hard work and are ready to go at the Nasdaq."

FOund this on Andy's website. A little update from the cute (but not bootylicious) Doug.


It seems in the world of tennis we are on the road most of the time. So it has been nice to have a break, sleep in my own bed, and get caught up on things. This past week Andy has been busy getting ready for Clay in Europe. Of course he is hitting lots of balls and working out to stay in terrific shape.

From a athletic trainer’s perspective, this time off for me is important for a couple of reasons. It gives Andy a chance to rest and let his body recover. It also gives him a chance to work on his strength and conditioning and make sure that things like his shoulder are strong and ready to go. Just as important is the mental rest you get from being off the road and having a little time to relax and spend time with friends. Being mentally fresh is essential when you are looking at most of the next 2 plus months on the road in Europe. So another week of work for Andy and then before you know it he will be sliding around on the clay in Rome.
