I couldn't follow that one, unfortunately

Seems like Stan proved he is gifted, good score. Fed is next up against this one arab Wildcard, would like to see that ;)

There were no breaks of serve in the first set but then in the second set there were only two times when serve was held.

It took a third set tie break for him to defeat Minar in the first round here last year and he ended up winning the tournament.

Roger will get better the more he plays. Stan will be tough for him because they train together.

Dirk, not because Rogi trains w Stan the reason why Stan is tough -- it's because Stan is not intimidated by Rogi and is improving every match he plays and he's just won his DC matches, which have given him more confidence. He w LOVE to beat Rogi... he doesn't care if they are countrymen.

I was surprised at the score but again it was a straight set victory and Roger is bound to be a bit rusty after taking almost a month off to recharge. The match looks straight forward to me. Yes, the first set went to a tiebreak which of course Roger won. However, the second set was a routine 6-3 and Roger broke Warnika's serve twice. So all in all a straight forward victory.

No, Roger lost his serve 3 times in the second ! A WTA set !

If u asked me, a player benefits from playing doubles with him.He also was rusty, he didnt really need his A game against Wawrinka. He will get better as each round goes.

Fed did enough.. nowhere near his best but when he needed to he raised his game and it was enough to cause a Wawrinka collapse of sorts. he'll be in the final :D

No, Roger lost his serve 3 times in the second ! A WTA set !Oops. :o Oh well he hasn't played in a month so he's bound to be a bit rusty. I believe he had double UE's to winners. Still, a straight sets win, hard to complain about that.

True, and I guess maybe Stan reads Roger's serve better than others, as they often train together.

True, and I guess maybe Stan reads Roger's serve better than others, as they often train together.I didn't expect this to be an easy one as they know each other's games well and Roger was coming off a break. Hopefully his serve won't desert him tomorrow.

Roger is rusty and seeing as how Wawrinka knows Roger's game so well, the push he gave him in the first set isn't surprising. But I'd hardly call this match a struggle.

Thank GOD, Federer was able to get over his first match stress. His Backhands were i guess most successful , some really good shots there, though his serve escaped sometimes. :D

Thoughts:imho, Wawrinka is a good coming talent. :)

Everyone knows Roger's game. Or doesn't because it's arguably impossible. It doesn't matter when you're playing Roger. The newer guys who don't know his game so well have been far more successful than older ones who've played/practiced with him a lot.

He did fine.

He's been pushed in the early rounds before. Not a big deal.

I think atptennis.com reads MTF. They removed "upsetting" right after my post and changed it do defeated.

 When was the last time Federer upset someone?

It now reads "defeated", btw. I'm currently concerned about the "Federer's last loss came at the Australian Open semifinals to Marat Safin." I'm all for selective memory, especially about TMC, but poor Rafa!

Maybe they do! The real test now will be to see if my post jogs their memory about Roger's three other defeats last year.

Edit: Ah ha, they were referring to hard court.

Actually Fed's last loss was to Nalbandian at the TMC.

That's why I said, half in jest, that I was all for selective memory about TMC. But regarding hard court losses, I've seen debates about whether Shanghai counts as hard court or not. Though I'm no expert myself, the debate seems to have settled on not, as everyone's still counting his hard court streak unbroken.

Yeah the ATP considers it carpet though PMac repeatedly pointed out that it should be considered hardcourt. Personally, I coudn't care less.
