Congrats Marat and welcome back to the tour.

Luckily for him his favourite guy Santoro lost and now he plays Oli Rochus.

Hmm I watched the game on tv and I think Marat still has a long way to get to his prime again. Safin won because Davydenko was pure crap today...

Safin's serve is gold right now. That was what saved him today. The serve and Kolya's UE...

Yes. When I saw the draw I thought: not Kolya in the first round and Fabrice in the second  .

Well the misfortune of some makes the fortune of others. :)

Welcome back Safin.
Davydenko played well in the first set. I guess he got exhausted by time.
Looks Like we 're gonna enjoy some good tennis INShALLAH. :woohoo:

Kolya was pretty good in the first set. Marat's UE were double Kolya's.

Sure Marat has still work to do before he returns into shape but for a guy that's been away for 6 month with an injury and lack of match practice to come back and beat a top 5 player, he surely deserves a thumb up. Yes, his serve was gold, but isn't it supposed to be?

*Edit: I meant top 5 player not top % player. Sorry :o .

Davydenko either bet on Safin to win or he just plain and simply sucks ass.

This loss should send him to at least #25 in the World. Let someone who actually cares about tennis be in the TOP 10.

I didn't expect Marat to win this match - coming back from injury is always hard - and I thought he kept his concentration well and played better than I had expected. Best thing was in the interview afterwards, when Marat said he felt "no pain" :) He said he was obviously scared at first in case the injury would hurt again, and that he was relieved that he completed the match painfree except for the bisters that developed on his racquet hand. He seemed very happy in the interview, but not too over-confident - he said his goal in the next month is just to keep injury free and work as hard as he can, and hopefully the results will come but he doesn't seem to have any illusions.

I think Kolya was a little in awe of Marat - being such a big star in Russia and maybe someone he "hero worshipped" a little a few years ago. I think that added to his slump in the 2nd and 3rd sets.

Jesus!!! Have some respect.... He went as far as Federer did during last year's RG and just one step lower that FedEx in Shanghai..he played 28 tournaments last year and deserved the place he is at right now...and if you don't like him, it's your choice but stop being an arsehole yourself and insulting people you have no idea about
