GASTON WON 7-5 6-2!!! :worship:
Thank you Gasti, you´re on your way back!
He had a better attitude today, more determined, and there were moments when he played his copyright shots, but he still needs to get a lot more tournament practice. He was so frustrated in the first set when he couldn´t get things right that he hurled his racquet and then got a warning for saying nasty things about his mother, but after that he managed to curb his temper. It was funny to see him almost hitting the ground with his racquet but stopping in time, or cursing in a whisper! :p

Thanks for the info Vale
I couldn´t watch the whole match..., only the last 2 games and they didn´t show the score, so I didn´t know what was happenning till they said game set match
Anyway, I could hear that Bonadeo and the other guy (I never remember his name) said that Gastón won despite not playing so well, but that his attitude was the one needed to win or something in those lines... I don´t know if they were making a totally biased comment or they were talking about the last set only or it was a correct comment, but it was nice hearing that :D

Well done, Gastón! :yeah:

Gaston through to the semis, did what he needed to and that's all that can be asked of him in reality.

He has played better and lost matches, but he is through the encounter with god boy Daniel and now plays Lucho and whoever wins this match, please take the title.

Great result for our guy. It's so good to see him back at this level in events. I mean, when a player reaches the semis, you can have legit hopes as to him playing the final. I won't say I don't wanna see him there. But let's say that if he doesn't, I won't be disappointed. Because I remember that at the beginning of this week, we were still wondering if it was a good idea for him to play....Anyway, good luck Gaston and thanks for all you've done and given us so far.

Luckily TyC will transmit the two matches tonight! As I haven’t been able to watch Gastón’s three matches and he’s won, now I’m being supersticious and wondering if I dare risk it! ;)

Yesterday TyC transmitted the last two points of the match against Daniel (such generosity! ) and the people who saw it were impressed at how Gastón looked: he was literally pouring in sweat, when he usually doesn’t sweat much at all, and looked thin and drawn and very tired. :(
I think the 35C° are killing him so it’s lucky he’ll play at 8:30 PM local time tonight. I hope he’ll have recovered in less than 24 hours!

He sounds very dissatisfied with his game, but as a friend pointed out: it’s easy to win playing well, but it takes a top ten mentality to win when playing badly! I think it’s important that he’s managed to pull his game together in the third sets and won his matches :D , something other good players at Acapulco were unable to do.

VAMOS GASTON! JUST TWO MORE MATCHES TO GO!!!

Unlike a lot of people I actually like Lucho and he was too good today and stepped it up and took his chances and held his nerve.

Gaston had enough chances to break back, but didn't convert them and he was playing against a better player than he has previously and couldn't get the job done.

Semis isn't a bad result overall.

Dirk
03-04-2006, 06:30 AM
No it is not a bad result. I just hope he goes into the clay season with great form. I want Roger and Gaudio to dominate on clay this year. :D

Choupi
03-04-2006, 08:48 AM
The semi is indeed a good result, given that at the beginning of the event, we weren't even sure it was a good idea that he played this event, hence the title of the thread. Anyway, I'm satisfied with what Gaston offered us this week. Hope he can keep it up in the upcoming weeks, injure free of course. :)

maria87
03-04-2006, 12:31 PM
I saw the match and Gaston let it go...He had the chances to break and he couldn't play the important points. His tennis is superior to the one of Horna. Lucho is a beater: he beat his drive and has a good serve. Gaston wasn't strong enough to stop the energy of Horna...what a shame, Gaston is still with this little bit of lack of confidence  ...If ths match would have been palyed after RG 2004, Gaston would have easily won. (hope my english's verbs are well written). Hope he could improve his performance in next tournaments. :wavey:
