Parmar's run in Rotterdam ends

Parmar earned his first Tour win since June 2004 in his first match.
Arvind Parmar's surprise run in the Rotterdam Open ended when he was beaten 6-3 6-3 by Belgium's Christophe Rochus in the quarter-finals.
Parmar, who was in the tournament as a lucky loser after Rafael Nadal's withdrawal, was the last Briton in the event after Tim Henman's defeat.

Rochus broke twice in the first set and capitalised on some unforced errors by Parmar to take the first set.

He broke again to go 3-1 up in the second set and closed out the match.

Despite the defeat, it was a good week for British number five Parmar, who was ranked 230th in the world at the start.

He beat Paradorn Srichaphan in round one and then overcame Dominik Meffert to earn his clash with Rochus and the chance to reach an ATP semi-final for the first time in his career.

Parmar made a good start with a brilliant backhand lob which landed just inside the baseline in his first service game but was soon under pressure.

He saved one break point in the fifth game before conceding it to Rochus and although he broke back immediately, the Belgian broke again to love and went on to win the set.

Parmar hit back from 0-30 down to hold in his first service game of the second set but Rochus again dictated play.

Although Parmar had a break point in the fifth game he failed to take it and the Belgian secured his place in the last four.

Completely outclassed start to finish but its been a great week for Arv, if he learns to work on that backhand then surely he can climb into the top 150 without any hassle :D

Good one Christophe :yeah:

Now it's Olivier's turn and then we'll have an all Rochus semi-final :)

Well done on a great week Arvind, hope you can push on from here :yeah: Sad to hear any such progress might be hindered by an abdominal injury :( (From the tournament website):

Arvind Parmar finished his match against Christophe Rochus, it was clear that he was no longer able to play at full strength. The Brit injured his abdominal muscle during the first set. Despite receiving on-court physiotherapy treatment, it proved the end of his tournament. The 27-year-old, who was admitted to the main tournament following the withdrawal of Rafael Nadal, was unable to make life difficult for his opponent.
