Roddick served some of the best percentages I've ever seen in the last two sets.

I think he might be back on track!

WTG Ange :) :D :woohoo: :aparty: :bounce: :clap2: :bigclap:

Yes! I am cautiously optimistic about his chances through the next few matches. He will have his hands full against a good returner.

Next time let's make it closer, Andy! :yeah:

But uhhh, serving stats look good. Returning stats are obviously not high, which is obvious with the score, but did anyone watch it? How'd Andy (and Wayne for that matter) play?

thanks for the Cardiac Arrest, Andy...
a win is a win... pheeeeeeeeeeeeeew...
but facing an mp against a player outside the top 100? seriously, Andy...

Very odd start to the match, Roddick getting broken early and then managing to break back quite easily, but the rest was what could have been expected. Wayno served around 34 aces, I believe, but paid dearly for double faults at 6-6 in the second set TB and 2-4 in the third, and was unable to take advantage of his one matchpoint at 9-8 on the Roddick serve.

Roddick getting good match practice and mental toughness by surviving two consecutive third-set breakers, but with a draw like Fish and Arthurs indoors, 'twas perhaps inevitable. The Andys are once again joined at the hip, they both vomit vs Pavel and they both come through tight opening rounds in Memphis.

Nice one Andy :yeah:

He hasn't played that many tie-breakers this year (before Memphis off course) but a lot of matches will depend on how well he deals with these situations. I hope he does a better job than last year.

Good draw for the next round. COME ON ANDY.

I fail to see how this is "nice," to be honest. Arthurs isn't exactly a top-tier player.

both players served really well so both players played well :p

Arthurs outplayed Roddick in the second even he had two bp in *3-4 and several deuces in two different games and a mp in the tiebreak (but on andys serve) and he could not take advantage

The good news is that Roddick is winning tiebreakers. The bad news is that he shouldn't be reaching tiebreakers; however, Arthurs does have a good serve and he comes in behind his serve which gives Roddick even more trouble.

As an Andy fan, a win is a win. That's my standpoint, also that he won two consecutive tiebreaks. That's good enough for me.

Roddick lifted his FAT ASS off the ground.
ARUTHERS can play and serve 989797 aces.
At least he has a singles title at an elderly age.......
Schuettler lost a 6-1 5-3 30-0 lead.
Karol Beck can't play.
How nice.

Remember in Dubai when Ferrero had match point against Federer?
Long time ago. Sometimes, injuries, poor fitness & bad lighting don't stop a WINNER!
The Halle match and the 2005 French Open semifinal were cute but very long. Steroids may help speed up these matches.

Roddick wasn't even 50% against Murray , for me this is out of question ,he after this horrible Davis Cup illness, and he alsko admitted this. Andy in form would tore apart Murray.

What I liked about this two matches in Memphis is the Andy's fighting spirit, even not playing anywhere his best he is fighting like he should maybe his mentality is returning ?? I hope so, and what I remember when Andy was winning tournamnets in 2003 or 2004 is that he almost always had very hard first matches , but the deeper in tournamnet he was the better he was playing. I think that he will win this tournament it will give him confidence boost and during TMS in Miami and Indian Wells he will be full of confidence and with his best tennis :worship:

You're right, and taking out an in-form Fish in a 3rd set TB proves your point! :rolls:

yeah it proves my point !!, if Andy was 100% he would beat Fish in straight set, and if you cliam that Fish is in-form you must have been watching other player !! ;)

I don't think so, I'm not at all surprised Murray beat Roddick, he has a great game to beat Roddick. I think even at 100% Roddick would struggle because Murray has a decent return of serve and good intelligent play.

Also, Roddick was clearly way over 50% against Roddick even if not at his best. He didn't have a horrible Davis Cup illness, he threw up on court. He was fine. Get over it.

the point is..

If both Andys make it to the final, which i'm little iffy about, (even though i want Murray to get there ASAP, but the kids 18 and can only do so much without running out of gas), and Roddick is tired.

so as much as i want both of them in the Final and for Murray to win again, the bigger picture is Indian wells and whats important is getting positive match play to get ready for the AMS event and playing well there, rather then these 2nd Tier events.

but good luck to both for the rest of the tourament and Murray is playing in like 10 mintues or so, so he better win for me : )

For Murray this might turn out to be just as important. It is easy for Murray to get a tough draw and go out in the first round at Indian Wells whereas in these events a half decent draw and he has a chance to get to the quarters or semis. He may well go far in Indian Wells but he may well get a tough draw and be bundled out.

i know, and i dont doubt it, because the past few weeks the draws have been tough for Murray, and i know being 18, its good to take what u can get at this age and ranking.

Where as, Roddick is the probally going to be the 3rd seed, and have a somewhat decent draw unless the whole *USTA* conspircay theroy of the usta giving him a bad draw just like at the 05 Us open, but heck he will do fine.

and yes, this might mean the same for murray, because its better do have a QF or SF in a 2nd Tier event then a 1st round loss at a Masters.

I see your point fine :)

:wavey: Thanks, I do see where you are coming from though, if Murray does get a good draw he doesn't want to waste it because he is tired from these tier 2 events.

exactly !

its like, he gets there and the draw is announced and its like "CRAP, NOW I HAVE A GOOD DRAW?"

and then he is all worn out from playing san jose, memphis and las vegas all back to back. and then gets a good one, and then all u can is slap ur self in the head and laugh. :)

oh well, he'll do fine, the field here in memphis isnt too overwelming, i think he can manage a good QF or SF or a Final if he is up to it.
