It is 1 thing to win a title...it is quite another to win successive matches over former #1 players who are still near the top of the game.

Phenomenal win Andy....brilliant stuff! :yeah: Finally a Brit takes out Hewitt for the first time in yonks.

As for his ranking...up to about 48/49.

Henman will drop to around 90 by April.

Rusedski and Murray haven't anything to lose until Queen's.

Murray will have the edge over Rusedski on clay...but even then I don't think he will do that well to be honest.

I guess my wish that the pint sized hot head would just spontaneously combust was too much to hope for. His losing to the up and coming Murray in a 3rd set tie-break after winning the first set is almost as good except of course for the fact that a pile of residue wouldn't be able give a post match interview. Another dream denied.

What's bizarre to me is that everytime Roddick loses to a player he "shouldn't lose to", this place and other tennis boards explode. But whenever Hewitt loses in the same fashion, there's not nearly as much hysteria. I find it rather odd

Anyway, this was Andy's time to come out and announce to the world that he's arrived, so a big congrats to him on a great effort. :bigclap: For his sake, I hope he moves permanently far, far away from England. :tape:

I don't know about the other times but unlike Roddick, Hewitt made a fight of it (atleast in the 3rd set). He did not give up like Roddick. If Roddick had gone down fighting, I am pretty sure he would have been excused as well.

Murray seems to have found some confidence in his game against good players (just like Marcos). It will be interesting to see how the two progress through the season. Good luck to both of them.

It's ridiculous to say Roddick wasn't fighting at the end. He was desperately chasing down shots in the last few games, scrambling like crazy.

I agree with that to some extent. Not that I think that Roddick does not fight, but there are times when it seems like he kind of gives up. Also I think it happens because Hewitt is in general much more consistent than Roddick. He usually does not lose to players that "he shouldn't lose to". Andy on the other hand does far more often.

Tactically this is a much greater victory than yesterday was; against Roddick you need to do a few things well to beat him, they're not easy but it's quite a simple gameplan if you can execute it. Hewitt presents many more problems, and at times in the match I thought Murray was trying to slice him to death without any real impact because Hewitt returned most of those low backhands pretty well, but on some crucial points his short, off-pace ball did force Hewitt up into the net on a weak approach and leave him a sitting target for a pass or a lob; some of the Aussie's own medicine, in fact. And how brilliant was that final point from Murray, to win your first ever title - wearing his opponent down to such an extent that he ended up hitting a routine, percentage backhand cross-court and Hewitt didn't even move to it.

The score is rather deceptive. In the first 5 games of the first set Andy Murray had a game point in all of them, but trailed 2-3. It appeared that it was going to be a match in which Andy would have many chances, but the experience and mental toughness of Lleyton would give him the win.

Andy should've won the last set more easily than he did as well, he had MP at 5-4 and at 6-5 but Hewitt showed his drive and aced.

The thing that surprise me about this match score, is that there were two lopsided sets. I think they play so similar, that the scores would be very close in all sets
So to see that lleyton wins first 6-2 and then andi will win the second 6-1 was a big surprise to me
But anyway, it is a fantastic week for Scot andy (less so for American andiy) and a good return for leyton to the hard courst
