I apologize if this has been posted here before but on youtube recently I found a 30 min canal 9 documentary on David. It's seems to be a pretty extensive interview (lots of Javi ;) as well). My spanish is nonexistant but I do know enough to know that novia means girlfriend. In part 3 about 5:40 she talks about David. I was just wondering if someone could paraphrase what she says. Thanks in advance :)

Yes - we've seen it Brego. As far as his girlfriend is concered - I'm desparately trying to remember what she said (which means it was either very boring or I was too much :inlove: with Javi to notice!) I'll have to watch it again when I get a moment - unless anyone else can remember.

Melbournay-I like that!

It annoys me how many commentators can't pronounce "Ferrer" correctly. They need Spanish lessons as much as, or more, than the Spaniards need English lessons.

What a great story about David! I like him even better now. Oh, poor David-getting locked up in a broom closet. That's awful! He is a tough customer on court, but a sweet man off court. He is a great player, a good friend and a nice guy. As I am smaller than average myself, David Ferrer is an inspiration to me, as he should be to anyone who was told they could never do anything and then went out and did it.

Vamos, David!

Poor honey - is it that he can't say no if asked to do these things? He seemed more at ease with the Caroche clothing campaign he did in 2008 (some of the clothes were a bit dodgy to my taste though)

Talking of videos I found this video on You Tube... David promotes Swimming Pools... (but looks very good actually in one!!!)

I just found this on You Tube and it's a bit of a surprise. I didn't know David had his own Tennis Academy in Javea. See below. It's run by his older brother Javier. That would explain where Milos Raonic practiced with David over the Winter.

Hmmm, so that's 3 academies in the Communitat Valenciana alone: this one of David's in Javea, Juan Carlos's Equelite and TenisVal in Valencia (where David practices or certainly used to) - no wonder they have an Armarda!

I'd be interested to know if Javi F also still runs the CT de los Pinos in Javea. I suppose the emphasis is different: one's an academy, the other is a club for amateur players, so no reason why he can't wear both hats...

Fascinating news anyway: here are a couple more links for info:

I wonder if this will be what David does after retiring from the tour (a long time in the future hopefully): bringing on young hopefuls like Raonic.

And David Ferrer can sell me a swimming pool any day - especially if he demonstrates the features ;)

Thanks for those links Carol. So his Academy started up last October and is actually part of the Club de Tenis Xabia. He followed that momentous academy opening with a win in the Valencia tournament! What a busy, exciting time for him. Glad to see his Academy is offering scholarships for kids for training in Spain and in the US. He's learned a lot from Juan Carlos and it helps that he does a fair amount of reading himself. I read somewhere (his forum?) that one of the last books he read was "Maurinho versus Guardiola", a book not only about football coaching but about business and leadership practices. I'm telling you (as you already know) that there's more to this guy than just his looks and his athleticism. :)

That was in 20 Minutos. Yeah, just because someone's not academic it doesn't mean they're unintelligent. Like JC and Rafa, I've always thought David has a lot of very practical intelligence. Heck, I know a couple of Oxford academics who have ZERO commonsense and who would fall flat on their faces if they had to work outside of the academic world).

I liked his comment in the article that in 2 weeks on tour he can read 3 books!!! A guy after my own heart.(Well I suppose he has to do something off court when he's not playing Playstation with Rafa and on flights !)

(here is the link to the whole article btw: http://www.20minutos.es/noticia/953626/0/ferrer/lector/libros/)

What about when he's tucked in his bed at the hotel?.......reading I mean. ;)

:haha::haha:

Watching TV? Sleeping? Doing a crossword? ;) What else could he be doing? ;)

(Reminds me...there's an old ATP DEUCE interview (2007 or 08) where he said he once stayed in a hotel in Umag years ago where the TV didn't work but he didn't like to complain....awwwww what a sweetie! )

Yey! David is in the Davis Cup team! :bounce:

Smart move, Albert! David, Rafa, Feli & Fer.

Not so sure about Feli given his recent form and hasn't Fer still got a problem with a broken foot bone? Still, hope they can work their doubles magic on what I reckon will be a fast court. The Belgians will be wanting to take what advantages they can, I'm sure.

Ohhh, but the ATP has apparently warned players going to Acapulco of the risks there (lots of kidnappings, muggings, shootings, murders etc) and to not go out of the hotel complex where the tourney is taking place and for players who lose early on in the tournament, to leave Mexico as quickly as possible... (Can anyone from the US answer this from your news reports: I know Mexico unfortunately has a lot of drug-related violence, but is it worse than usual at the moment?) News in Marca.

I'm sure there will be very tight security as it would obviously be disastrous for the tourney and the ATP if a player or official or spectator got hurt. Still. *bites nails*

I loved when he said, "The best is yet to come." I wish that for David and all my favorite players. I need something to give me hope right now. I feel that better days are not ahead for me lately. Enjoying the triumphs of my favorite players gives me some hope. I do hope better things are ahead for Juan Carlos and Rafa, too. Juanqui has had a hard time lately and Rafa's year started with illness and injury.

OK, since we, Ferrer fans, have been a bit depressed lately, I think it's the right time for some shameless eye candy. They're old videos, but who cares, right?

Very nice interview from 2011 with a very nice closeup of Ferru's face, which is always appreciated.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_U9kJdaw38Q&list=FLYRMDgfKLUcsPqhjvy5WDwg&index=21&feature=plpp_video

Two even older videos. Because even though I think his hair looks great now, I kind of miss his long hair :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZHIHJbmd74&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L9G65kNtCcY&list=FLYRMDgfKLUcsPqhjvy5WDwg&index=2&feature=plpp_video

And this one is NOT pure eye candy. Or at least not in the way the other ones are, because, in a way, seeing him play like this against Nadal surely IS a type of eye candy.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_CJ5n3Klvk&list=FLYRMDgfKLUcsPqhjvy5WDwg&feature=mh_lolz

OK and now, last but not least, an ESPN video that is a must-see for any Ferrer fangirl. If you've never seen it before (and believe me, if you have, you will know at once what I'm talking about), brace yourself.

Don't thank me, I'm just posting links to other people's videos ;)

Same for me, I like his hair now, but I'm a sucker for long hair and I think it really suited him, too :)

There are tons of other great videos on Youtube... Don't know if you've seen the Tennis Pro vids with David, Rafa, Juan Monaco and another guy playing Playstation... And also all the Davis Cup vids, some of them are amazing. I'm thinking especially of the one in which they all giggle and eventually crack up because of Ferru's English, it's really quite funny

I also wanted to post some videos since a longer time, because I like them so much :hearts:

They are both from Båstad, one after Ferru won the semifinal

http://www.tv4play.se/sport/sporten?title=eftersnack_med_david_ferrer&videoid=2205319

and this one after he won the final :bounce:

http://www.tv4play.se/sport/sporten?title=ferrer_i_studion_efter_segern_i_swed ish_open&videoid=2205379

The interviewer is former swedish player Jonas Björkman and I really like these interviews as Ferru also tells some things about his game and what he changed.

And this is another video from Båstad I like a lot. It´s an interview with Ferru and Nico Almagro and it´s quite funny I think ;)

Thank you! My computer didn't let me watch them until today...

I couldn't see the first one. But the second one is great, as you said, seeing him talk about his game, really cool stuff. It's also good to see that I'm not too bad at analyzing his game :p
And I really learnt something, I didn't know he used a longer racket to compensate for his height. Same as Errani, I believe?

Loved the interview with Almagro, very funny!

I can see in this last video the "eyeliner/mascara" phenomenon on David's eyes :D I hadn't really noticed that myself, until I read messages by people saying they were always wondering whether he was wearing make-up on his eyes, because he has very long, dark eyelashes

And also... while I'm talking about substance, did you notice how his hair is just constantly getting in his eyes? Because it's too short, he can't tuck it behind his ear, it will always go back to where it was! (when he came to the famous Roland Garros "terrace" interview, it was very windy, and he spent the entire interview trying to push his hair out of his face and failing miserably - that was pretty funny to watch). :D

I have also found a new Ferru-ism to add to my favourites: "I won twice times here"... Love it!
(I also noticed the "I will have to will play consistent"... but that one is such a baaaad mistake, it wakes up the English teacher in me )
And he didn't understand the last question about what other sport he would like to watch :)

It's pretty difficult to find, you can't access the video unless you have the link, because it's not referenced in Youtube search (don't know why, maybe it's meant to be only for really dedicated fangirls!)

I think it's probably an ad for tennis on ESPN. Those guys sure know how to advertise their sports channel

I have two indoor cats, Peter, a tabby and white boy and C.C. a Calico. I also have a number of feral cats. I had a Siamese, Samantha, who lived to 20. Peter is the last survivor of three brothers. Prince, a Siamese, passed away in 2010 at the age of 12 and Paul passed away last year at 13, way too young. Peter is currently 14. I hope to have him a long time. I don't want to think of my life without cats.

Well... I'll try to give you a translation, but it's a bit rough, because I don't understand everything... Anyone with better Spanish skills, please feel free to correct me or add details!

Obviously they're asking him questions about his little habits / obsessions, because he starts all his answers with "la mania que tengo"... So I assume they're asking him about his habits in different situations.

At the beginning, he says that when he travels on an airplane, he likes to read magazines, or just sleep, because there are many hours of flight and you cannot do much anyway (I think he says that it's a bit like an anaesthetic - not 100% sure about this, but it sounded like that :D)

When he arrives at a destination, he just tries to get his suitcase as quickly as possible, and to get to the hotel as soon as possible in order to settle down and get used to the place.

Before a match... (and here I'm absolutely not sure that this is what he says... I understand "lucha" which means struggle, so maybe, he intends to always fight as he did the first day? don't know)
He warms up, prepares his rackets, talks to his coach a little. It's always the same.

He says he's not very religious, and he only counts on himself to struggle and win.

When he goes home, he always goes to visit his parents first, his family, his brother, his nephews, then he sees his friends (friends from his childhood...). His family is what he misses the most.

At home, they always have dinner together (I guess he means the whole family) because they like to share these moments.
Paella is his favourite dish, because it's a tradition in Valencia, it's his homeland, he loves paella.

I'm not sure what he says about Federer, but he mentions that he played against him 12 times and has never been able to beat him.
He talks about Rafa's obsessions, which he says pretty much everyone knows about (the lines, the bottles are always straight, the rackets always at the right angle, etc)... Tennis players in general have a lot of habits/obsessions.

He says his own little habit during matches is to change very often (changing his clothes, I assume), he never feels perfectly comfortable at first, there's always something that he needs to change.

And that's it :D

Thank you very much for such a detailed answer! By the way, do you know there are usually all the spanish press conferences of him on spanish eurosport page? No, I didn't know, thank you so much for the information! I was disappointed that everytime I found a video, they would stop before the questions in Spanish. I understand English better, but he has a lot more to say in Spanish...

Of course I`d want that, but only when you have time, there is no pressure at all, I can wait weeks you know!
I am happy that I found this forum recently, cause I couldn`t find much about him in the net. Strange that he isn`t considered as a sex symbol like Verdasco or Lopez, I find him much hotter than them. To tell the truth I became a bit obsessed by him, have 200 his photos in my comp lol

Sophitia36
09-09-2012, 09:53 PM
I know, I'm going through the same process :D Strange that he's been my fave for years but it's only now that I'm really discovering how cool he is. I think it's due to the fact that I'm only realizing now that it has become possible to watch virtually every tournament in the season (before, it was mostly TV, and that meant, the French Open and then almost nothing).

I also think he's far more attractive than Verdasco or Lopez, mainly because I don't like "playboys" who seem to be a little too aware of their sex appeal. Part of Ferru's appeal is that he doesn't seem to care. He's confident enough, but he's not vain, and he's not trying to be sexy.
And for some reason, I always find that people who are "unintentionally" sexy are far sexier than the ones who are consciously trying to be :D

Also, for me, it works in that way: I admire someone, I discover stuff that I like about his personality, then maybe I also find the person attractive. And then these factors just interact with each other and reinforce each other :D
When I first noticed Ferru I did find him quite attractive. But nothing to shout about. And then, I began to really love his attitude, and I discovered his off-court personality and how different it is, I discovered that he was actually a very sweet, clever, classy guy, and so on and so forth. His attractiveness is also far more obvious off-court, and his attitude is very charming and endearing...

I might try and translate some of those press conferences, maybe just a summary, when I have time. It's always good for me to listen to Spanish.

Sophitia36

I have questions, or rather, "requests" (I don't like the word much lol):

I always find Ferru's rare bursts of anger very funny... Now, I know the usual "lob towards a baby" video and the unfortunate row with the female umpire...

But there are two "incidents" I have heard about, and have never seen: the time when he stopped a clock, and the time when he got mad at his coach and told him to leave :D
Does anyone have a link to a video of these by any chance?

Ok, I feel like having me a little bit of Ferru translation :D (As usual, I'm warning you that I'm never 100% sure of my Spanish translations... Also I can barely hear the questions so I have to do a little guesswork)

(It starts in the middle of an answer)
In the 5th set, when he had break points and he couldn't convert them, it was difficult because Tipsarevic was serving very well, but the match had a lot of moments of tensions, he knew that physically it was difficult and Tipsarevic would be tired too. So in the end he managed to seize the opportunities and he kept believing in himself.

I think the woman asks him if he likes to play close matches like this.
He says it's OK, he enjoys it, he enjoys playing very emotional matches. He remembers once he played a very close match against Verdasco, and that time he had lost 7-6 in the 5th set and he was very sad, but this time, it ended differently.

Then I assume the guy is asking him about when he got mad at the umpire at the end.
He says that, well, he made a mistake and it was his fault, because there was so much tension, he thought that Janko had asked for a challenge and he got angry. These are moments with a lot of tension, 4h30 hours, a tie-break, so on...

Then the guy asks if he'd better play against Del Potro or Djokovic.
He says they're just both so good, both of them, it doesn't matter much, whenever they're playing well it's extremely difficult to beat them. After such a long and difficult match, he's so tired, he probably won't even watch the match, he'll just be wanting to be with his team.

The guy asks if he thinks he can still stay in the shadows now.
He says he doesn't care, he just enjoys himself, being with his team, etc.

The guy asks something about Rafa (maybe quoting David as saying that "Rafa deserved to win everything he's won", I think)
He says he's very happy with his own career, and he thinks tennis is one of the fairest sports: those who are in final are getting what they have worked for, what they deserve.
And Rafa has brought a lot to Spanish tennis, he's an example to follow.(I think he says that without him he would not have achieved everything he has achieved in his career)

Then I absolutely cannot hear the question, seems to have to do with Rafa again, probably the fact that he's not there.
Ferru says he doesn't care, and I think he says he would have liked him to be here and maybe they would have both been in SF (?)
And he says he just works hard to do the best he can (meaning he does not really care about the Rafa comparison)

A guy asks which was the most difficult moment of the match.
He says it was in the 5th set when he was getting break points, but was failing to break, Tipsarevic was serving very well, it was a difficult moment.

A guy asks him about the change in the calendar, that moved the South American tournaments to December.
I think he says personally he doesn't like it, he thinks when you have done your season, you want to rest. He says if this is done then he will probably have to miss the South American tournaments, and he doesn't want to do that because he likes those tournaments, he does well there, and has friends there, etc... But he says if he has to play again in November, he won't be able to play at 100% of his abilities. He says it's bad for the tournament and for everyone.

A guy asks how the decisions are taken, if there was a vote.
He says that he didn't vote, he only told the ATP about his opinion. If they decide to make the change, he'll respect it, but he's got his own opinion on this.

A woman asks about Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez who had to retire because of an injury (I assume she's thinking of the Davis Cup double).
He says he left them a message, it's still very premature to say anything. He hopes Marc Lopez recovers quickly, because he's the best doubles player they have with Granollers, but otherwise there are some very good players they can count on.

An Italian woman asks if it's OK to ask a question in Italian, he says it's OK he understands. She asks what he thinks of Sara Errani, his friend, being in SF and having a great year.
He says he thinks she's a great player, she's very good, maybe people underestimate her because she's small, "piccola", she's got spectacular control in her game, he thinks she's obviously a top ten player, and he's not surprised of seeing her in the SF in Paris and QF in Australia, because she's good. He says her match against Serena will be very hard, because Serena is very strong, but he wishes her luck, he's very happy for her, and as a person she's one of the best.

That's all folks! :wavey:

Does anyone have the same fun like me, when listening to David`s interviews in English? He repeats about the same again and again. This is the typical Ferru`s recipe for an interview: "It was a very tough match. He is a very good (unbeleivable, amazing) player. I played consistent (solid, agressive, confident), had more luck in the important moments". And lately (taraahm!): "This is the best season of my career". He definitely needs a new speechwriter!

I think he's just making clever use of his very limited vocabulary in English :D

Yes, of course, I understand that, I was just kidding. Anyway, he is so good looking, that it doesn`t matter for me what crap he is saying. lol

True. Especially in your avatar. Love his hair like that.

Still I do prefer listening to him in Spanish, because he's a clever guy and when he's not hindered by vocabulary issues, he has things to say. Unfortunately, in Spanish, it's me who has more problems understanding the language (though I've been making tremendous progress lately - I must thank Ferru for that! ^^)

Has anyone found any of the post-match interviews from Kuala Lumpur? I know they have interviews but I cannot find them.

Youtube has become such a mess lately with all those bogus videos ("Ferrer-Sijsling live"/"highlights" or whatever)

I also couldn´t find anything neither on atp site, nor on the official site of the tournament, except that stupid "Toby´s videos". Hopefully it would be better in Bejing (and the result also).

I'm sure it has been posted before, but it's the first time I've seen this video of David with the baby lions (the photographs are well known, but I had never seen the video footage!)

The lion cubs are absolutely adorable. Oh and also the journalist is pretty funny ("Do you have animals like that in Spain?" Errrr what do you mean, "animals like that", lions? Animals that kind of look like lions?)

Very cute! I'm not surprised David would love the lion cubs since he's a cat lover!

So am I, and during the entire video I was trying to decide who I envied more, David or the lion cubs!

Yes, it is from my favourite period of time with him, how he looked - Shanghai 2007. Unbeleivably handsome! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uqsS9gH2bw

I had seen it before, very funny (and I think he actually meant something serious :D)

I noticed that the Spanish I took in school came back to me very quickly since I began watching tennis. It's funny how I have used my Spanish to read tennis websites about Ferru, Juanqui and Rafa! To borrow a word from Juanqui, I call it "tennistically tutored Spanish."

Sorry nothing new but a nice, old video that I found in which you see Ferru and the Spanish Davis Cup team after their 2009 win :D (and no, there's no nudity involved, in spite of the very catchy title "in the locker room" lol)
