Say goodbye to your #2 ranking, Juan Carlos. :wavey:  Too bad, he was the best Grand Slam player this year.

Ugh, rain?! Hello tourney directors, make this an indoor tournament next year!

Deboogle!.
11-16-2003, 10:08 PM
nope not next year.... maybe 2005 (and probably)

RogiFan88
11-16-2003, 10:09 PM
:D Yay Rogi up 63 20!!

Rain?! Shades of USO...

Who's smart idea was it anyway to have an outdoor TMC? :p

Let them finish this match TODAY pls...

ROGI, yes, keep your focus and your momentum!!!

GO ROGI!!!

You're watching this LIVE, Mrs. B.? Lucky!!

Leo
11-16-2003, 10:09 PM
nope not next year.... maybe 2005 (and probably)

Well it won't be in Houston in 2005.

Deboogle!.
11-16-2003, 10:12 PM
I know, that's what I meant. Probably in 2005 they'll go back to indoors somewhere. It'd be nice to see it switch off periodically just to keep variety.

The Houston stadium is brand new and an outdoor stadium, they're not going to build a cover over it.

martinatreue
11-16-2003, 10:13 PM
more rain just like US OPEN

Dirk
11-16-2003, 10:16 PM
Roger is mixing it up when he has to and not letting Andre run him around and Roger is hitting the ball on the run much better today. That backhand should be confiscatied by our government. Roger's errors are low and without errors Andre can't win and he even admitted to that when he beat Roger in Miami.

RogiFan88
11-16-2003, 10:20 PM
Are you watching LIVE too Dirk?? I guess we'll get this match overnight but truncated, as usual... only 1-1/2 hrs slotted for this final, like last yr... how dumb is that?

Go away, you freakin rain! :(

Deboogle!.
11-16-2003, 10:20 PM
Yeah, with Duck Season over now, it's time to move on to other things. Besides, I get bored with my avatars and signatures easily so I tend to change them a lot. :p

LOL Gotcha. I like your current siggy with the quotes and stuff :)

But from what I can tell, Duck Season doesn't end on this board. they'll be shooting in charity exhibitions for all we know.

I thought they said the court was covered????? This is going to be a MESS if/when it stops raining.

Aurora
11-16-2003, 10:34 PM
it isn't?

Deboogle!.
11-16-2003, 10:35 PM
They just showed a live pic (it's pouring now) and it was puddling right on the court. Unless I'm blind and I missed something (which is really entirely possible)

MisterQ
11-16-2003, 10:37 PM
Holding an outdoor tournament without covers for rain = STUPID, duh

jtipson
11-16-2003, 10:37 PM
Brit Eurosport are showing Federer/Roddick sf; which is quite nice since we didn't get to see it *at all* last night... but if it doesn't stop raining soon, we may not get to see the final.

vaiva
11-16-2003, 10:38 PM
I thought they said the court was covered????? This is going to be a MESS if/when it stops raining.

They have covers but waited too long. The skies were already very heavy and dark but the officials continued to blabber on their walkie-talkies. Eurosport cut coverage when it was raining pretty heavily and there were no sign of covers on the court.

Great organisation for YEC

Deboogle!.
11-16-2003, 10:38 PM
well yesterday Eurosport was very adamant that the courts WERE covered. Confusing.

J. Corwin
11-16-2003, 10:40 PM
So stupid to not have covers if you're not gonna have it indoors.

It is raining badly...

Billabong
11-16-2003, 10:42 PM
Update at 4:440 P.M. CT: Rain has stopped. Staff will begin drying court shortly. (message from TMC website)

J. Corwin
11-16-2003, 10:49 PM
Who's more annoying: Mattress Mac or those three naked boys always clapping and singing for Andre/Andy?

I swear, I thought I saw one of them had painted on his back "I wanna be Andy's Mandy!"

They're not naked.

I saw this couple where the guy held up a sign saying "I want to marry Mandy", and the girl had a sign "I want to marry Andy". Hmmm...their relationship not working out well? ;)

star
11-16-2003, 10:54 PM
I hate the clapping singsong cheering.

Where are we in the rain delay anyway? I had to go away and found out it was a rain delay.

Deboogle!.
11-16-2003, 10:54 PM
LOL I Saw those signs Jackson, that cracked me up.

Oh and the topless kids are WAY more annoying than Mattress Mac.

Say goodbye to your #2 ranking, Juan Carlos. :wavey:  Too bad, he was the best Grand Slam player this year.

Ugh, rain?! Hello tourney directors, make this an indoor tournament next year!

Maybe they should make Wimbledon an indoor tournament next year too.

Or why have ANY outdoor tournaments at all?

star
11-16-2003, 10:57 PM
I blame TV for the topless kids...... or rent-a-bellies as Mary called them. If TV refused to show them, they would go away pretty fast.

ice_princess
11-16-2003, 10:58 PM
they should have a retractable roof like the one in the australian open

star
11-16-2003, 10:58 PM
more rain just like US OPEN

Yes, it only rains in the U.S. AND interestingly enough the rain in the U.S. is entirely under the control of the USTA.

Deboogle!.
11-16-2003, 10:58 PM
oh definitely.

the USTA is WAY more omnipotent than G-d. Duh.

star
11-16-2003, 11:00 PM

Deboogle!.
11-16-2003, 11:12 PM
yes, unfortunately so!

MisterQ
11-16-2003, 11:13 PM
I washed my hair, baked a cake, went out to see a movie, fed the cats, made a few phone calls, answered some e-mail, painted a masterpiece and there's still a rain delay, huh?

Sweet! Now we can choose between pie AND cake!

(What kind of cake?)

J. Corwin
11-16-2003, 11:16 PM
Just about any pie or cake would do for me.

Aurora
11-16-2003, 11:17 PM

Deboogle!.
11-16-2003, 11:21 PM
Maybe this time they put the cover on since they'd dried the courts for the most part before the rain started again.

Aurora
11-16-2003, 11:21 PM
right, that's it. I'm off to bed. I have a life starting tomorrow again.

J. Corwin
11-16-2003, 11:22 PM
Now the "U.S." will be bashed even more for having the TMC held outdoors and in Houston. Recurring USO nightmare.

Tricky_Forehand
11-16-2003, 11:22 PM

I'm wondering how long they'll wait before they suspend the match till tomorrow.

I only hope that this doesn't take Roger out of his groove because he was well on his way to finishing it in straights. He had Andre all frustrated and messed up in the head :D .

I hope that Roddick enjoys his time at the top because with Roger playing like this his stay won't be #1 very long. ;)

Deboogle!.
11-16-2003, 11:34 PM
I hate that one, MisterQ, also the Mercedez one with the monster coming out of the engine.

ESPN just said that they will show the match whenever it happens, live on ESPN2.

the live shot they just showed was of them drying the court, but who knows - this is Houston.

TheBoiledEgg
11-16-2003, 11:38 PM

5-0 2nd set. Federer serves for the set... potential bagel

Yes, Andre has decided now would be a good time to give away lots of UEs

MisterQ
11-17-2003, 12:34 AM
Andre is hittting everything just slightly out. Going for too much, probably. But if he can tune those strokes up, we could still have a match (though a win by Andre would be very hard to pull out)

Keep fighting, AA!

Andre's playing below his level - tons of unforced errors, mostly long balls. Roger is playing well.

This win also means that there's a nice equitability in terms of titles for most of the New Balls: as of this moment Ferrero, Federer, Roddick and Safin all have 11 titles. But Federer is the only one besides Hewitt to have a TMC title... the parallels are uncanny. The Wimbledon champion, not having won an event since Wimby and in mediocre form, gets drawn into an amazingly tough group and yet emerges the victor. Congrats FedEx!

Ah typical, Federer not given a chance to speak... well, never mind that he doesn't get the last word off-court, he certainly did on the court, and that's the most important thing. I think it's safe to say that as of now he has the second best career among the New Balls after Hewitt, which ain't bad... the only step remaining is no. 1, which he should certainly be targeting at the AO next year.

Dirk

Had it been Andy they would have given him 20 minutes. Did you all see how they had his name engraved on the cup already??????? They must make two of each and throw Andre's one away or send it back to the shop. I am so happy for Roger. He played incredible. That rain made the last two sets sloppy but oh well it was a incredible win for him. This is more important than his wimbly since he beat so many tough guys. Oh and he won Vienna for the guy who said he didn't win an event since Wimbly.

Ah yes, forgot that one. But still, it had been a weaker second half of the year post-Wimbledon for him overall... and now he finally has a title on US hardcourt, that was the only part of the tennis calendar he hadn't succeeded on.

What, you mean with Henman and Federer winning the last two big events of the year RF? Yeah, not bad overall... now if only Schalken hadn't had such a diabolical indoor season, this would be the absolute perfect end to a superb year. But all I can say is, onwards and upwards - let's see some new tournament wins for Federer next year! Something Swiss would do for a start...
