and I hate rap, R&B with a passion! But some songs are tolerable. There's just so much 50cent *music<debatable* I can take.

In order I:
love Placebo... :singer: Brian is just divine. The make up is good, plus Stefan is a Swede which is a bonus *aside from being :music: inaccessible to girls!* Special Needs...
I like Sash! Doing a dance version of Nessun Dorma, without destroying it, can't be easy :hatoff:
Evanescence... "My Immortal". Need I say more? Beautiful music with feeling, reminds me of a chick version of Placebo, but a little softer :)
Coldplay also, lol can't go past the scientist, all their songs have great meaning and easy to relate to...

Kristen.

I'm Aussie, so some of you might not have heard of these groups/ppl.
Something for Kate... Silverchair (for their animal rights stance! :yeah: )
Moby (do we see a trend! lol)
Daniel Bedingfield, I'll confess to having several hanson, backstreet boys and boyzone cd's. Mum bought them for me years back, and every now and then I like to MMM bop! Omg how daggy ;) But hey, I do have placebo and coldplay, so my tastes have matured!

Russell Watson. do you guys know him? He's a british guy, sings classical stuff like nessun dorma, really great opera style music.

White Stripes, RHCP, Coldplay, Orgy, Linkin Park, No Doubt, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Cowboy Junkies, Dido, Fleetwood Mac, Cibo Matto, Dire Straits, U2, REM, Limp Bizkit, The Who, DMB, Queen, Creed, Counting Crows, Sheryl Crow, Tool, Lit, Jewel, Beatles, Jethro Tull, Nirvana, Evanescence, Puddle of Mudd, etc. ... So, you know, a large variety. Basically everything but punk, rap, and classical. I also hate most country as well, but Sheryl Crow is an exception, as is some of the Dixie Chicks stuff.

Joe Cocker,Morcheeba,

Oh yes! Joe Crocker has some good songs, particularly his cover of the Beatles "A Little Help From My Friends" (or whatever it's called) as the theme song for "Wonder Years". My favorite Morcheeba song is "Never an Easy Way". :D

there are people out there that give it a bad name but damn...don't generalize an entire genre that way. It's just not right. You seriously need to be hearing different stuff if that's what you think of it cuz you're getting a very one dimensional picture

2pac -
Baby Don't Cry
Changes
Keep Ya Head Up
Ghost
One Day At A Time

Eminem
Cleanin Out My Closet
Lose Yourself (you've prolly heard that one but it doesn't hurt to take a close listen to the lyrics)
Run Rabbit Run
White America
Rock Bottom

NWA - Fuck Tha Police ...that one might sound like "typical" badass posturing at first but really listen to the lyrics. It's a statement about racial profiling.

that's a good place to start, lol

ok...The Scientist...i loved the piano intro but it lost me somewhere after that...roughly at the point when the vocals kick in, lol. I guess I just don't like his style but that's just me. The piano line was lovely but then it got drowned out, lol.

The great beyond is alright but the vocals are a real turn off for me.

ok..i've heard them all now, lol...still not my thing. I tried really hard to like them but I just can't. differences in people are what make the world interesting though so no big deal, lol

here are the lyrics in case you didnt get the song

Come up to meet you,
tell you I'm sorry
You don't know how lovely you are

I had to find you
Tell you I need you
Tell you I set you apart

Tell me your secrets
And ask me your questions
Oh let's go back to the start

Running in circles
Coming in tales
Heads are a science apart

Nobody said it was easy
It's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard

Oh take me back to the start

I was just guessing
At numbers and figures
Pulling your puzzles apart

Questions of science
Science and progress
Do not speak as loud as my heart

Tell me you love me
Come back and haunt me
Oh and I rush to the start

Running in circles
Chasing tails
And coming back as we are

Nobody said it was easy
Oh it's such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be so hard

I'm going back to the start

I think that they all sound like they're whining. It kinda resembles a cat howling mwaaaawwwooooo, lol. I find it to be a very dull sound and I can't stand it. I grew up on hip hop remember?? Every single syllable is very distinct and crisp. To hear that vocal style to me...it sounds very wishy washy

ok first off coldplay ARENT indie travis is but NOT coldplay...and gosh i hate when people say that...not that their is anything wrong with indie bands/artist...but i obsess over coldplay so if someone gets something wrong their is hell..lol...and LUCIDD im NOT getting mad...but how is he whinning...hes singing what he feels and just because he is singing the notes and he has a wide voice range does not mean he is whinining...you probably like it more when it feels like the artist is just talking to you right?...yes i think so...anyways what rock do you like Jag?

Y'know, the beauty of music is not in forcing everybody to like the same type but in agreeing to different tastes.

How is Amy Lee a raspy voice and Chester Bennington - raspy? How? Chris Martin is more so.

And I get what Lucidd's saying, I mean like, with rap and hip hop, each word is in it's own whereas with Coldplay and artists like that, sometimes, they need to blend words - or assimilate as the technical term is - in order to fit the music. Rap doesn't have that constriction because it's not about fitting the beat, it's about the message in the song.

i know that is a bad habit of mine...i want to say it and i type it but then i say i shouldnt say it...i need to stop that...im sorry:)....no hard feelings right:hug:

Y'know, no one's really cussing anyone about their musical tastes - if you can accept that Lucidd and I don't necessarily appreciate Coldplay and Travis, then it's all good because we have no problem with you liking them.

yes i agree with that though..i just dont always like to accept that some people dont like coldplay or think they are whining..because to me if they are whining then every other artist is whining about their problems as well...its more like expressing...but i have to accept it sooner or later..:)

My father thinks the same way as Lucidd. He walked into the room one day when I was playing my Coldplay cd and he said something like "Who is that whining and crying? Someone should put that guy out of his misery!"

Moral of the story: Not all people have the same taste in music. ;)

if this is true then therefor all the rappers/hip-hop artists that are singing about what they know about are whining..they are whining just as much as "coldplay" or "travis"...but i dont listen to music and think the band/artist is droning their music..and its unfair to say that...but o well...i guess these days to some peoples singing is accounted as whining:scratch:

first off...i said that THE TONE OF HIS VOICE...as in HIS STYLE OF SINGING, not THE LYRICS THEMSELVES that sounds like whining. Do you understand what I said yet or do I need to make sure not to utilize any words over one syllable before you can understand me?

Favourite band is a band no one here will know - The Shadows. They were a 60s instrumental band and also the backing band for Cliff Richard (who is also a favourite).

Also love more sixties bands like:
The Beatles
The Hollies
Manfred Mann
The Monkees
The Beach Boys
The Bee Gees

and eighties bands like:
Duran Duran
Human League
Spandau Ballet
Go West

More recent artists I like:
Mandy Moore
Enrique Iglesias
Take That
Robbie Williams
Eminem

Quite obviously the main bulk of my favourite music is of the pop genre... I like happy music - it makes you feel good (with the exception of Eminem)

Well, my faves have to be divided tbh..

Arctic Monkeys are my current fave. Sheffield-born alternative rock sound, and their Yorkie accents make the songs sound even better!

Also I like the following:

Futureheads
Bloc Party
Kaiser Chiefs
The Kooks
We Are Scientists
Maximo Park

I'm also in to chillout music. A lot of my early hours sessions on here are enjoyed with Air, Portishead or Massive Attack playing from my iTunes. I take my iPod on long distance travel and I usually play them then.

Beatles, the Who, The Clash, The Animals are great oldies.

It's so unfair. I'm sure Alex Turner isn't that great a singer but his accent makes him sound awesome. My fave bits from the album are the beggining of "certain romance" and the middle of "When the sun goes down" with the lyrics:-

"Though they might wear classic reeboks or knackered converse or trackie bottoms tucked in socks"

and

" Look here comes a Ford Mondeo, isn't he mister inconspicous"
