TheBoiledEgg
11-11-2003, 12:41 AM
Roger going "Potato-esque" ;)

Sjengster
11-11-2003, 12:42 AM
I think I slightly misinterpreted you there, TBE... 1 each would be a LITTLE too conservative for Agassi.

Not necessarily, Sjengster. Agassi can force errors from Federer.

0-40!! cmon now!

HAH 6-6«!

Sjengster
11-11-2003, 12:54 AM
Good point, in fact that's how Agassi wins the majority of his points... I suppose since the point ends on Federer's racket, I thought of him as controlling it even though it was a forced error.

BTW, he just broke back to love to force a tiebreak.

J. Corwin
11-11-2003, 12:54 AM
Federer breaks back. TB time.

Aurora
11-11-2003, 12:54 AM
How did Andre lose that game? Not that I'm unhappy about it!

Roland
11-11-2003, 12:54 AM
Does it seem to anyone else that whenever Federer gives a fist pump or a big sign of emotion, he loses the next point just about every time.

Carlos can always hit on them like he does to every woman so maybe ;)

Sjengster
11-11-2003, 01:01 AM
Oh right, interesting - the scoreboard couldn't be bothered with Federer's service points, they said Agassi got it 7-1. A little less painful, but still...

Leo
11-11-2003, 01:04 AM
Leo: Why not a fan? Just curious?

Dunno, he just bugs me. His occasional lack of intensity, particularly in Slams and big matches, confuses me. Got a lovely game, but I think it'd be too frustrating for me to be a fan of his.

No. I will now.

Sjengster
11-11-2003, 01:16 AM
How do you all think Nalbandian will fare against Agassi?

It's a baseline battle, that's for sure. I think Nalbandian can hurt Agassi in the rallies both offensively and defensively, but he's certainly going to need the cheap points that he got on his serve today, otherwise Agassi could wear him out. I predict a tight first set followed by an easier second one for Agassi.

TheBoiledEgg
11-11-2003, 01:16 AM
Roger breaks 2-1 :D :)

now can he hold ??

Tennis Fool
11-11-2003, 01:16 AM
Lurker: Good question. It should be a good matchup. However the further this one goes, the more I favor Nalby...

YESSSSSSS game Fed 2-1!

Sjengster
11-11-2003, 01:17 AM
Federer up a break - do you fancy holding now? He always puts himself into a corner by losing a set which he served first in on a tiebreak, a la Costa in Miami, before pulling out the second set and then going down in the third. Would be nice to break the pattern...

federerfan7465
11-11-2003, 01:17 AM

Roland
11-11-2003, 01:17 AM

Tennis Fool
11-11-2003, 01:18 AM
Also, Nalby likes the big hitters because he forces them to make errors. Andre has patience and is not one to commit a lot of UFE's. I would say Andre if he wasn't tired...

Leo
11-11-2003, 01:19 AM
I think Nalbandian will beat Agassi.

Sjengster
11-11-2003, 01:20 AM
Mind you, I think the Band might like soaking up the pressure from Agassi like Hewitt does - and he has more power and pace behind his shots so he can force the issue more than Hewitt. A battle of players from similar regions, considering that Agassi's father was originally named Agassian and came from Iran.

Billabong
11-11-2003, 01:21 AM

Woohoo! The break endorsed!

Jiri Novak!!!!!! Jiri Novak!!!!!!

Ummm, can I ask what Jiri Novak has to do with anything? I'd guess that you're shouting his name since he beat Agassi last year in the opening match of the TMC and you're hoping Fed to do the same this year...

Sjengster
11-11-2003, 01:25 AM
Precisely - although it helped that Novak was already up a set courtesy of an Agassi choke and won the second from an Agassi tank. He did play pretty well himself, though.

TennisLurker
11-11-2003, 01:26 AM
But the surname is Armenian, there are lots of armenians in Iran, all the surnames that end in "an" are armenian (Nalbandian, Sargsian, Agassian, Gostanian, Eurnekian, Melconian for example)

Sjengster
11-11-2003, 01:27 AM
Well there you go, I thought there was a connection. Nalbandian lost to the Sarge at last year's US Open, interestingly enough.

I am afraid that if federer finally beats someone who owns him, he may beat Nalbandian later.
And that is something I cant allow.
I like watching Nalbandian defeating Federer.

I love Gaudio, but watching him losing 6263 to Marcelo Rios gives me great plaeasure too.

KarstenBraasch#1

Will they delay the L.A. final now ? ;)

Sjengster
11-11-2003, 01:43 AM
I wouldn't be worried Lurker, beating Nalbandian is a different kettle of fish altogether. Federer's having to go the distance in this match anyway, and he finds it tougher against Nalbandian, who is much quicker and a better counterpuncher than Agassi. Can we just agree on Federer getting a win here and then against Ferrero and leave the Great Dave to make it 6-0?

I'm off to watch Amelie *hopefully* beat Kim to win the biggest title of her career. Sjengster
11-11-2003, 02:36 AM
TF, he didn't so much kick him as tentatively pinch him until finally, agonisingly, he scraped over the finish line. But it's a start, and with an impaired Ferrero still to come... he may yet get out of a group that seemed impossible for him.

11-11-2003, 02:38 AM

So wonder how Rog will fare vs Nalby now, eh? ;)

Sweet dreams, Sjengster, of Roger beating Nalby and Carlos beating Pandy! ;) ;)

Interesting results today.

We thought Nalbandian was doubtful to play but he breezed by Ferrero, and Federer was supposed to be low in confident and he just beat Agassi the first time ever. So should I indulge myself to think that the low-confident and supposingly injured Moya will shoot down the duck?

Superb day for Rogi! Keep it up againt Nalby!

And let's see Moya be another duck hunter!

I doooooo. I was cheering for him on another board. I called him "the fucking master" among other things ;)

Chloe le Bopper

When a journalist asked him why he always beats Federer he said "I like to play with him", that was mean...

Not mean.... honest ;)

I could understand people doubting him after Wimbledon 2002 but he has done more then enough in the past 18 months to prove that he is as good as the top 3

He has a similar style of game to Hewitt but his groundstrokes are better and if he serves like he did tonight could easily be a multi slam winner
What astounds me about the lack of credit given to Nalbandian is that

1) He's young
2) He was a very good junior

Yet people still talked about him with the same turned up nose that they talk about Schuettler and Schalken (and yes, I've seen him grouped with the two before... I still don't know how Schalken nosed his way into the group, but whatever ;))

I suppose that part of the "problem" with Nalbandian, is that he wasn't hyped up, thus your average fan (and average ESPN commentator....) knew fuck all about him. I suppose that he was hyped in Argentina some, but we certainly heard nothing of him here, before Wimbledon 2002. The first time i saw him play was Rome 2002...

(and average ESPN commentator....)

Majority of commentators know absolutely shit all about tennis. When a top player is playing someone below them all they usually do is spend 90% of the match complimenting the top player even if they are getting beaten.

Today the commentator that I was listening to during the Ferrero/Nalbandian match tried to come up with all types of excuses as to why Ferrero was losing (apart from him being outplayed of course), the most ludicrous was that Ferrero is looking forward to Davis Cup and is not trying because this is on a totally different surface.

if this is how it is for Baldy
tomorrow night is gonna be worse with all the teeny-boppers :fiery:

Carlos can always hit on them like he does to every woman so maybe ;)

I completely forgot about the teeny bopper factor  . I was sitting here at home annoyed at the crowd actually hoping that Roger's supporters could be louder...lol.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one dealing with this frustration when it comes to David. I wasn't a fan of his right away but it still bothered me that he wasn't being given any credit for his run at Wimbledon in 2002 and then when he was able to back it up with results this year STILL nothing  . I don't know why I'm all that surprised. Rainer has had an awesome year but the "casual fan" would have no idea about it. Same goes for Guille.

It just gets to be so frustrating, not to mention pathetic, that we often know more about the players than the "experts" do. I can't even begin to tel how many times i've yelled at my TV when they get their facts wrong :banghead: . I wonder if there will be a day when Tennis is treated with more respect as an International sport. I know it's a pipe dream but hey...

Go Rainer!! Go David!! Go Guille!!

Tricky_Forehand
11-11-2003, 08:26 AM
Thank You Roger!! :D . I wanted Roger to win tonight anyway but the minute that David won this afternoon I really wanted Roger to win. I know it's slightly mean but I can't help it...lol. I do like Roger but I like David a lot more. However, I might go prematurely grey due to Rainer & Guille's match tomorrow. I don't want either one to go 0-1!! This is so unfair!! I only hope that Carlos can step up and beat Junior tomorrow night. I don't care if it takes him a tight 3 sets like it took Roger tonight. I just want Carlos to get himself that first win and silence the crowd ;) . I'm so glad that I have 4 top favorites in the Master Cup. But only one of three that I want to see holding that trophy :D .

Which one of them would you prefer to win, tennis724?

:banghead: I know this will probably sound pathetic (as I've been told that it does) but I have this lousy habit of cursing my favorites when I say if I want them to win too early in a tournament. I will say this. My pick for this whole thing is playing the first match of the day tomorrow. I know it doesn't help but my liking for him will be about as obvious as my liking for David. So then you'll know my top two favorites without me out and out saying it ;) . Sorry, I know I'm a pain
