I remember that someone posted that Germany got a tough draw for the Davis Cup and did they ever! Germany and France have met 7 times with France holding a 4-2 lead in the series. The last time Germany won was in 1938!
France recorded a 5-0 victory in the last meeting in 1996 in France. The two teams will meet this year in Germany and the Tie will be played on 2/10/06 - 2/12/06. The German Team will consist of Nicolas Kiefer, Rainer Schuettler, Alexander Waske and Tommy Haas. The German Team Captain is Patrik Kuhnen. The French Team will consist of Richard Gasquet, Arnaud Clement, Sebastien Grosjean, and Michael Llodra. The French Team Captain is Guy Forget. (Note: Information is from the Davis Cup Site).

See, you're finding your way to all of the good tennis sites :D. I hadn't even thought about the Davis Cup tie yet, so I'm glad you started the thread. I have to admit, I don't know which team to cheer for. Tommy is my favorite in that entire group, but I also like Gasquet and Grosjean. Wish they didn't have to play in the first round, but I hope Tommy wins his matches no matter who he plays.

It will be a tough Tie for sure. Gasquet and Seb are the French players I know. And they are both good IMO. But
I hope Tommy can win his matches :)

I have just been contacted by email, that I won 2 tickets for the doubles match on Saturday  but I don't know yet if I can go

Oh no to win something like that and then maybe not be able to use it  But Tommy doesn't play the doubles, does he? I don't know exactly how the German Team is set up the way I know how the American Team is set up. The U.S. will have Andy and James playing the singles while the Bryans play doubles. If anyone knows how Germany's
Team is set up, please post. Maybe the Davis Cup site will give me some information also.

OOOOPS sorry, but I just now noticed that a Davis Cup thread had already been started. I don't know how I missed it? This has not been a good week I don't know where Delray Beach is and then I do a double Thread! I'm sorry this just hasn't been a good week for me! Except for the fact that Tommy is winning his matches at Delray :)

Haas will play the doubles with Waske. They have won all their 3 matches in DC and I don't think they will change that team.

I have 100% feeling Germany win by any way!
Haas strong as ever, always good in Davis Cup and points for Germany
and I have seen Kiefer at Austrlain Open, he looked very good like I never see him before and beat Grosjean in difficult conditions with his back to wall in a fight showdown of 290 mintues in midday heat
now Grosjean at front of German crowd where he cant play his bad and poor antics with crowd like with Nadal at home in Roland Garros, advantage Kiefer if he does not think too much about the match (has more problems in Davis Cup than Tommy)
both Tommy and Kiefer beat one of his opponents in Austrlia
I hope Alex Waske good for Davis Cup double
current, I rate Grosjean stronger, but Gasquet can be better after time playing. When Tommy has beaten him in Austrlia, he was under his normal level. He could come back to better level for Davis Cup, so it is not easy. Tommy must beware, but will fight the win I believe! :)
Tommy will slap Grosjean also
always comfort wins for him in past three matches

Thanks Jogy and JMG for your information on the German
Team :) I really didn't know that Tommy played Davis Cup Doubles, but of course here in the U.S. the only thing we see is the U.S. play. If we even get to see that! The tennis coverage in the U.S. is getting less and less

Good luck to Tommy! :rocker2:
By the way,Tommy is no.2 player or no.1?

Thank you for posting the matches. I don't know who the Germans consider to be the #1 player on their team for sure, but my guess would be Kiefer or Kiwi as they call him. He is their highest ranked player, I believe, so if they follow what the U.S. does our highest ranked player is consider the #1 player so it may be the same with Germany, but I can't say for sure. I'm sure that some of the German posters can fill us in on how Germany does things. Note: As of 02/06/06 the ATP site shows Kiefer is ranked #12 while Tommy is ranked #29.

Sorry for asking this kind of stupid question. :awww: From the ranking,Kiwi is no.1 German player right now,Gasquet is no.1 Frenchman too,but based on the current form,it seems that Tommy and Seb are better than them,so I was so confused! You know, not like in Croatia, everyone knows Ivan is no.1 Croatian ;) and 99% he is the only one to win singles matches! :rocker2: Anyway I like Tommy and want Germany to kill France 5-0, :fiery::fiery::fiery::fiery::fiery: that proves they need Santoro and this is the best excuse to fire that irrational "crap"tain soon. :armed:

OMG!!!!

I REALLY have to go to Halle on sunday!!! Damnnnn!!

Does anyone know if I can get tickets in Halle on sunday if it's not sold out?!

<Eve>
02-10-2006, 02:49 PM
I already called the Gerry Weber Stadion :p
there will be a lot of tickets left! so i might see Tommy vs. Grosjean!!!! If my parents want to give me their car ;)

Well the U.S. sounds like Croatia. Everyone knows that Andy is the #1 player in the D.C. But I don't know about what they do in Germany? Maybe we will hear something from some of the German people that post here.

16681
02-10-2006, 04:46 PM
I went to the Davis Cup Site and I couldn't find anything about who was the #1 or #2 players. However, as yumo has already posted Germany is already down 0-1 because Grosjean beat Niefer. So, of course, that will put more pressure on Tommy to win his match

16681
02-10-2006, 04:53 PM
Tommy is now playing Gasquet. The Davis Cup site has live scoring in case anyone can't see the match any other way. Since U.S. TV is only going to show the U.S. team, I'm going to the Davis Cup site to check out how Tommy is doing.

16681
02-10-2006, 05:01 PM
Tommy is off to a great start he has already won the first 3 games in the 1st set. Tommy does have a good Davis Cup record. I saw at the Davis Cup site that Tommy was 18-4 in Davis Cup play. So I hope he can keep it going against Gasquet :) (Here let me state I have nothing against France or the French players I just want Tommy to win his matches) ;)

16681
02-10-2006, 05:08 PM
4-1 Tommy in the 1st Set and he is serving :)

16681
02-10-2006, 05:11 PM
5-1 Tommy in the 1st Set and Gasquet is now serving :)

yumo
02-10-2006, 05:13 PM
tommy 6:1

16681
02-10-2006, 05:13 PM
Tommy won the 1st Set 6-1 :)

16681
02-10-2006, 05:22 PM
Tommy is up 1-0 in the 2nd Set. But it was a close game with a lot of dueces (not sure I'm spelling that right, but you know 40-40 scores).

16681
02-10-2006, 05:25 PM
This second set seems to be more difficult. It is 1-1 with Tommy serving.

16681
02-10-2006, 05:28 PM
Oh no it is 2-1 in the 2nd Set with Gasquet serving!

16681
02-10-2006, 05:33 PM
I was right this 2nd Set is trouble it is now 3-1 Gasquet with Tommy serving.

16681
02-10-2006, 05:38 PM
3-2 Gasquet and he is serving. From what little I can tell just from the live scoring Tommy is having some trouble with his serve.

16681
02-10-2006, 05:43 PM
It is now 4-2 Gasquet with Tommy serving. I'm afraid that Gasquet will definitely win this 2nd Set.

16681
02-10-2006, 05:46 PM
It is now 4-3 Gasquet and he is serving.

16681
02-10-2006, 05:49 PM
5-3 Gasquet with Tommy serving. Tommy just can't seem to break Gasquet in this Set

16681
02-10-2006, 05:54 PM
It is 5-4 Gasquet and Gasquet is serving to win the 2nd Set. If Tommy loses this match Germany will be down 0-2 to France. Which is needless to say not a good position to be in

16681
02-10-2006, 06:00 PM
Gasquet won the 2nd Set 6-4. Tommy has to get it back together for the 3rd Set.

16681
02-10-2006, 06:04 PM
Tommy won the first game of the 3rd set on his serve now Gasquet is serving.

<Eve>
02-10-2006, 06:05 PM
It is 5-4 Gasquet and Gasquet is serving to win the 2nd Set. If Tommy loses this match Germany will be down 0-2 to France. Which is needless to say not a good position to be in
Noooo... don't say that!! It's only 1-1 in sets now, anything can happen!!
Tommy will win! For sure!!

16681
02-10-2006, 06:08 PM
It is now 1-1 with Tommy serving. I don't like the fact that this 3nd set seems to be starting out like the 2nd set did

16681
02-10-2006, 06:11 PM
It is 2-1 Tommy, but Gasquet is now serving.

16681
02-10-2006, 06:15 PM
NOOOOOOOOOOOO! The live scoring has gone down!

16681
02-10-2006, 06:19 PM
Thank goodness the scoring came back, however, it is 2-2 with Tommy serving. Tommy just can't seem to break Gasquet.

16681
02-10-2006, 06:23 PM
The live scoring is not working again!!!!!!

02-10-2006, 06:24 PM

Thank you Tommy's Girl. After the scoring site went down at the Davis Cup then I started having trouble with this site and for awhile I couldn't even post here

<Eve>
02-10-2006, 06:55 PM
i still have the scoreboard!! but it seems like they're playing 2 minutes per point.. it's sooo slow!!

GREAT NEWS!! Tommy just broke Gasquet!! 2-0 4th set now!

16681
02-10-2006, 06:57 PM
Well the 4th set has started out like the 2nd and 3nd. 1-0 Tommy, but Gasquet is serving. What happened to Tommy? He started out so well winning the 1st Set 6-1 only to lose the next two sets both by the score of 6-4

<Eve>
02-10-2006, 06:57 PM

<Eve>
02-10-2006, 07:15 PM

02-10-2006, 07:31 PM
You are right this is an terrible way to try to follow tennis  And especially for me because I keep even loosing the scoring

<Eve>
02-10-2006, 07:33 PM
6-5 haas, gasquet serving for 6-6...

<Eve>
02-10-2006, 07:34 PM
that's really stupid!! and its strange! because for me it's working all the time..
i have to leave in 10 minutes...... so i'm sorry i can't cover everything for you!

16681
02-10-2006, 07:36 PM
I don't know why it won't work for me all the time

<Eve>
02-10-2006, 07:36 PM
6-6... tiebreak.....

<Eve>
02-10-2006, 07:38 PM

<Eve>
02-10-2006, 07:41 PM
:woohoo:

:woohoo:

:woohoo:

:woohoo:

:woohoo:
7-0!!! 7-6 4th set!!

So...... there will be a 5th!!
but i have to go now, let's hope your site will work again!!!!!

16681
02-10-2006, 07:45 PM
Sorry you have to go and will miss the 5th Set  I will try to do what I can with that site. I'm so glad Tommy won
that tiebreaker maybe that will lift his play for the 5th Set.

16681
02-10-2006, 07:51 PM
Gasquet started the 5th Set and won the game. Tommy was serving his first game in the 5th Set when I once again lost the scoring

16681
02-10-2006, 07:57 PM
I guess instead of the tiebreak lifting Tommy's play maybe it took too much out of him because it is now 3-0 Gasquet in the 5th Set

16681
02-10-2006, 08:03 PM
It's 3-1 Gasquet and he is serving.

16681
02-10-2006, 08:08 PM
I finally figured out my Davis Cup site problem, but at this rate it won't really matter. Gasquet is up 4-1 in the 5th Set

16681
02-10-2006, 08:11 PM
It is 5-1 and Gasquet is serving for the game, set, and Match

16681
02-10-2006, 08:16 PM
Well Tommy did manage to make it 5-2, but again Gasquet is serving for the game, set, and Match

16681
02-10-2006, 08:22 PM
It is now 5-3 with Gasquet yet again serving for the game, set, and Match

16681
02-10-2006, 08:27 PM
Gasquet won the 5th Set 6-3. So the Match score is Gasquet d. Haas 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-7(1), and 6-3  So this means Germany will now have to win 3 Matches in a row to beat France. And I'm sorry I don't know if they can manage to do that

Alexiana
02-10-2006, 08:39 PM
so many bad overrules and bad decisions against the german team...and always at close spots of the match.....I hate that day......Tommy was playing great...now my dislike of gasquet is even getting bigger, i thought it was already at the top....

<Eve>
02-10-2006, 09:59 PM
well thanks mae! for describing the rest of the match!
it's too bad he lost!!!!
I think he will win the doubles tomorrow so everything depends on kiwi..
for the first time in my life, i'd like kiefer to win a match :p

and then maybeee, i'll see haas-grosjean 'in real life'!!!
:woohoo:

16681
02-10-2006, 10:33 PM
I was sorry Tommy lost also  But, of course, we didn't get to see things like bad overrules etc. That's one of the reasons I don't like real scoring, but usually it is better than nothing. But I was even having trouble with it today.
And all I had to do was hit the "refresh" button, but by the time I found that out the Match was almost over  I guess I must be "the kiss of death" on everyone. Andy had a two set lead on Pavel and Pavel came back and won the next two sets so they are into a 5th Set  I think I will just crawl in a hole :p BTW thanks Tommy's Girl for you help when I was having all my site trouble :)

16681
02-10-2006, 10:43 PM
Well I guess instead of just crawling in a hole I will have to crawl in a hole and die :p Pavel has a 3-1 led over Andy in the 5th Set  I don't know why I jinx players that I like  Oh about Gasquet I have to like him some because if I'm not mistaken he is one of the few players who have beaten Federer :)

16681
02-10-2006, 11:12 PM
Pavel did beat Andy  I feel so sorry for both Tommy and Andy because one of the things I admire about both of them is they are passionate about Davis Cup. They enjoy playing for their countries and now I bet both of them are just sick  At least Andy gets a day off while Tommy has to go right back out tomorrow for the Doubles.

<Eve>
02-11-2006, 01:00 AM
You're welcome Mae!! :D
You know what you have to do?! Jinx Grosjean! Imagine that Grosjean is your favourite player for the sunday match!! Then he is jinxed and Tommy will win!! Great plan don't you think!? ;)

But it's also too bad for Andy.. Eventhough I'm not his biggest fan, i do like him!

16681

Well James helped Andy out because James won his match
in straight sets no less. I think Mr. Blake is a man on the move myself. About your plan it would be good, if only I could do it? But ask yourself would you take Grosjean over Tommy? I think you see my problem with your plan :) Tommy may have been sick over his lose, but Andy got sick during his Match right when he could have won it  I really must be a jinx

so many bad overrules and bad decisions against the german team...and always at close spots of the match.....I hate that day......Tommy was playing great...now my dislike of gasquet is even getting bigger, i thought it was already at the top....
That sucks!
The chance that they win overall is almost down to zero, but I hope they will at least win the doubles.

The Doubles Match is all even at 5-5 in the 1st Set.

16681
02-11-2006, 03:35 PM
Well Haas/Waske won the 1st set :) But it is 2-1 Clement/Llodra in the 2nd Set.

16681
02-11-2006, 03:40 PM
Haas/Waske broke Clement/Llodra server so it is 2-2 in the 2nd Set with Haas/Waske serving. The score on the 1st Set BTW was 7-6(6).

16681
02-11-2006, 03:44 PM
It is now 3-2 Haas/Waske with Clement/Llodra serving. I think from now on I'm going to use H/W and C/L to take up less time and space :)

16681
02-11-2006, 03:48 PM
3-3 all in the 2nd set with H/W serving.

16681
02-11-2006, 03:51 PM
Oh No! It is 4-3 C/L with C/L serving.

16681
02-11-2006, 03:56 PM
5-3 C/L with H/W serving.

16681
02-11-2006, 04:00 PM
C/L won the 2nd Set 6-3.

16681
02-11-2006, 04:05 PM
C/L started off the 3rd Set and won the first game and now H/W are serving. I'm sorry I'm very tired so I don't think I will be able to keep posting. I hope H/W wins, but I will have to wait until later to find out.

It's so sad they lost to one of the best doubles teams. But this is not surprising at all, anyway Tommy gave his best,he was unlucky in some crucial points too,so I don't blame him! :)

Yes the scored ended up being Clement/Llodra d. Haas/Waske 6-7(6), 6-3, 6-4, and 6-1. So no matter what happens tomorrow France will defeat Germany yet again!
The Germans must have hated it when they drew France
because they just don't play well against them. The Record is now 8-2 in favor of France  Oh well I think everyone played as well as they could and that's all you can ask of anyone :)

Seemed like a burden for the German team to play at home  German team was not tough enough in the deciding moments :( Both Haas and Kiefer could have won their first matches, they were not out of reach. Then in the doubles Waske was a bit the weak spot this time, the French doubles just too good. Llodra almost unbreakable, hell of a performance from all French players, they were overall too good and did play lose and not cramped up like the Germans.

I hope they get one more chance next year in the World Group.
Lets stay in the World Group and win the relegation in September! :yeah:

Neely do you have any idea who Germany will have to play in September to stay in the World Group or do more Davis Cup Matches have to be played before you will know?

The Playoff Draw will be done in April. The first round losers from the world group will face the winners from the other groups like europe/africa, america and asia/oceania zone.

There are some difficult matches possible for Germany again
They would so much deserve an easy draw some time again. Slovakia away, Czech Republic away the last two times in relegation, that was very difficult.
And Slovakia would be possible again :scared: at least this time at home and they lost Beck as their 2nd player due to doping
something like

Or Sweden would be damn hard also, it would be away and meanwhile PimPim for sure returned to the Swedish team and they would put the German team on ultra-fast indoor carpets with wooden layers beneath and Söderling and PimPim would serve 60 aces per match.

Spain is another first round loser :scared:

Or worst case scenario would be Switzerland, at least it would be a home tie again, but for sure I think that you can bet your ass on that Federer would play again :o

Because you don't know who is going to be seeded, there are theoretically lots of difficult opponents possible, but normally the opponents above should all be seeded and Germany too (but not sure and difficult to predict).

It doesn't sound like things are going to be good for Germany at all  I wish they could get a good draw for a change, but now since they have to play their way back in it doesn't sound like there is a good draw for them! But it might turn out better than expected because I remember last year the U.S. was in the same position and they had to play Belgium. And the Tie was being held in Belgium so of course what did Belgium pick for the surface Clay! European clay is normally the worse possible surface for American men. But they won :) So maybe it will work out better for Germany than you might think ;)

are you sure that they will face the other first round losers? I'm quite sure that they will face a winner of the zonal groups 1.

Yes, quite sure that it would be theoretically possible and such scenarios happened in the past already that two World Group nations meet in the play-offs. But the seeding is decisive for that.

So if Germany is not seeded, and another World Group first round loser is, they could meet: a non-seeded Germany could meet a seeded Spain in the World Group playoffs 06.

But please lets hope that Germany will be seeded as well because it will be hard for the Committee to deny Germany a seeding with two high-ranked players like Haas and Kiefer ;)

Very throw away weekend that Davis Cup :(

I was mad that they could not make important breaks.
They were not so bad like score said, just missing bit intensity to break

Í was at the stadium, it was okay. But would have liked Germany and Tommy win of course!!!!!!!

Oh I forgot to ask did Tommy get booed by the crowd at the Davis Cup? There was some talk about that happening because he got Kiwi's Coach. But I didn't think it would happen.

Now, thanksfully this did not happen, at least I didn't notice it. It would have been so stupid if some Kiwi fans did that. If not the players, at least the crowd should act like a team :p Lets not get into situations like with Argentina where some Gaudio fans last year where happy that Coria played the last rubber to lose against Slovakia and that it was not Gaudio who lost the decisive single; I had the impression that was just that they could better dump.

no, they totally didn't. They cheered even more for him than for Kiwi. Kiwi had some problems within the team. He said that they wouldn't support him as much as they do with Tommy and he said that the crowd wasn't supporting him either.... I totally disagree with that. The crowd went insane, when the referee made an overrule against him and they where screaming for him.

lol, actually the ones that good booed was the French team when the chair umpires made such stupid decisions in Kiefer's and Haas' match. Otherwise they were fair, but of course something like that upsets the crowd a lot. Too bad that at the end it didn't help  :( :o ....

I'm glad to hear that none of the booing occurred for Tommy. I really didn't think it would. I mean how could you boo someone that looks that hot--LOL  Sorry I got a little carried away there  Actually I do kind of feel sorry for Kiwi even if I know next to nothing about him. I mean he lost his coach and the Davis Cup didn't go well.
I think he was probably just feeling hurt
