:bounce: ...come on james, dont fall apart in 2nd set now

martinatreue
10-29-2003, 01:09 PM
anyways I never understood the concept that you have TBE of where players should be ranked. apparently you believe more in ideals and potential than hard work, results and tangibles.

martinatreue
10-29-2003, 01:10 PM
make big butt run rainer!!!

martinatreue
10-29-2003, 01:10 PM
rainer 3-0. blake will probably tank if he gets down 4-0 and then make a few flashy shots in the third and win. he is just such a flashy inconsistent player :fiery:

martinatreue
10-29-2003, 01:12 PM
jonas 5-3 :bounce:

TRIPLE BREAK point RAINER!!!

Deboogle!.

martinatreue
10-29-2003, 01:25 PM
Obviously nothing.... he's down 0-40 again

sorry but just barely breaking Rainer 0-4 was not yet cause for celebration. But I am still worried that big butt will just luckily connect on some big shots in the third set. anyways I do root for james against fernando gonzalez. cuz gonzo is just wacked!!!

martinatreue
10-29-2003, 01:25 PM
jonas :)

Deboogle!.
10-29-2003, 01:26 PM

martinatreue
10-29-2003, 01:32 PM
rainer breaks for fourth time in a row to take second set :D

martinatreue
10-29-2003, 01:33 PM
Blake won only 25% of the points on his service games in the second set. :haha:

Rainer not all too spectacular either but above 50%. :)

Deboogle!.
10-29-2003, 01:33 PM
looks like Jonas is running away with it. Not really surprising since Lapentti couldn't really prepare or have much notice about playing or anything.

martinatreue
10-29-2003, 01:35 PM
come on James, get some more disinfectant
wake up in 3rd :smash:

forget the disinfectant and get a serve. winning 25% of your points on your serve for an entire set (even against the great Rainer Schuettler return game) is atrocious in the ATP.

martinatreue
10-29-2003, 01:35 PM
Bagel him Jonas!!!!

zephyr_uk
10-29-2003, 01:36 PM
plus....lapentti is useless LOL that cant help

martinatreue
10-29-2003, 01:37 PM
anyways TBE you never explained to me why you theorize about where players SHOULD be ranked and what determines that other than results. Personally I know you love Moya but to me he seems overrated since Federer and Schuettler usually always beat him and Mardy Fish too. but moya has good results so I cannot claim he does not deserve his high ranking. yet you always put down rainer, fish, novak, hewitt, etc.

Deboogle!.
10-29-2003, 01:37 PM
what do you mean he's useless?

martinatreue
10-29-2003, 01:38 PM
bp rainer.

martinatreue
10-29-2003, 01:38 PM
Rainer breaks right away. :D

TheBoiledEgg
10-29-2003, 01:39 PM
we have a serious outbreak
0-2

martinatreue
10-29-2003, 01:39 PM
well at least blake won 33% of the points in this set so far on serve. :o but that was just now his fifth loss of serve in a row.

martinatreue
10-29-2003, 01:40 PM
oh don't worry Rainer has been handing blake some breaks right back too.

zephyr_uk
10-29-2003, 01:40 PM
james is really up against it now, the only positive is that nobody has been holding serve too strongly

TheBoiledEgg
10-29-2003, 01:41 PM

zephyr_uk
10-29-2003, 01:43 PM
well lapentti is a bit of a jouneyman thesedays, hes never fullfilled the potential he had when he started out but its impressive Ecuador can produce a top player with their limited resources.

martinatreue
10-29-2003, 01:43 PM

blake down 0-30. approaching break #6 in a row?

15-30
15-40 i don't know if I even recall a WTA player being broken six times in a row (and mostly to like 15 or love  )

martinatreue
10-29-2003, 01:47 PM
check page 2

i don't even see any post from you on page 2???

martinatreue
10-29-2003, 01:49 PM
as much as I like Rainer and don't like Blake I have to say that getting broken so convincingly six times in a row must really really suck.

martinatreue
10-29-2003, 01:50 PM
Rainer 4-1. now secure break #7 in a row. :D

Deboogle!.
10-29-2003, 01:50 PM
lmfao yes I'm sure it does suck but it sounds like it's James's own fault, not that Rainer is really pushing him for it.

At least *someone* held serve!

TheBoiledEgg
10-29-2003, 01:51 PM
page 3 then

James :help:

martinatreue
10-29-2003, 01:51 PM
second set blake won 25% of pts on serve. now at 27% in third set.

martinatreue
10-29-2003, 01:52 PM
TBE, I asked you those questions long after page 3. Just tell me what your theory is on why Rainer, Fish, Novak, etc are not talented enough to be where they are.

Deboogle!.
10-29-2003, 01:53 PM
yet he's getting 79% of his 1st serves in in the set... dang

martinatreue
10-29-2003, 01:53 PM
OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Blake on the verge of holding serve. :help:

Deboogle!.
10-29-2003, 01:53 PM

martinatreue
10-29-2003, 01:53 PM
omg he held. BAD RAINER, BAD!!!

zephyr_uk
10-29-2003, 01:53 PM

martinatreue
10-29-2003, 01:55 PM
rainer 40-15

Deboogle!.
10-29-2003, 01:55 PM
I dunno...... I won't be here during that match, I actually have to go to a class lmfao.... I like both Mark and Guga, so I'm ok with whichever one wins. Mark's got rest on his side and he should be fresher than Guga but who knows.

martinatreue
10-29-2003, 01:56 PM
Rainer 5-2. now "break him out" for the match. :haha:

Deboogle!.
10-29-2003, 01:56 PM
Bjorkman won!

martinatreue
10-29-2003, 01:57 PM

TheBoiledEgg
10-29-2003, 01:58 PM
here :p

I just like to make fun of them, i just dont like them
i didnt say Hewitt and Fish are over-ranked
just Shittler and Mr Nobody
they'll soon get back to normal

zephyr_uk
10-29-2003, 01:59 PM
..bunk would you cancel a class for the grosjean v henman match or you think thats a forgone conclusion? LOL...i really hope tim can win that

Deboogle!.
10-29-2003, 01:59 PM
so NOW he decides to hold @ love.

This game is so ugly.... it's a good thing they don't show the u.e. figures on the stats lol

martinatreue
10-29-2003, 02:00 PM
novak has been very very consistent and played a great match against el aynaoui at us open. safin would have lost to rainer at aus open.

martinatreue
10-29-2003, 02:01 PM
Triple match point Rainer!!

zephyr_uk
10-29-2003, 02:01 PM
James...another early exit grrrrrrrrrr

Deboogle!.
10-29-2003, 02:01 PM
if I was the one who could do the cancelling? Sure. What sucks is it's a 3-hour class that will probably fall right when the 2 night matches are. I'd love to see Tim win, too! I'll be sending good vibes from class ;)

Actually looking at the order of play, if the Henman match starts right on time, I'll be here for most of it. 6:30 paris time is 11:30am my time and I don't have to leave for class til 1:30 :)

TheBoiledEgg
10-29-2003, 02:02 PM
not they way he was playing in January

martinatreue

Well time to wish Roger good luck!!

(hmmm so Nalby had to withdraw after all - would have surprised me if he could have played - to bad for him yeap I actually do feel sorry for him as it's a shame when someone can't play due to injury...)

martinatreue
10-29-2003, 02:03 PM
hmmm, k, least you responded but you never really answered my question of why some "belongs" in the 40s. sounds very elitist on your part.

and "i just don't like him" is strange reasoning since Rainer is very nice and Novak strikes me as very down to earth and kind.

martinatreue
10-29-2003, 02:04 PM
Rainer with 8 aces to 5 DF's. not bad. :)

Deboogle!.
10-29-2003, 02:06 PM

Too bad for two of my favorites to play. I hate to see Nico lose, but Jonas. :yippee:

martinatreue
10-29-2003, 02:08 PM
There were 12 breaks in that match... good god.

Carraz broke Schalken to start that match

rainer was broken mostly after deuce or to 30. james broken way more times and mostly to 15 or love.

anyways both are pretty good returners so that is part of the story too. :D

12 breaks is still 12 breaks and for players on that level it's a LOT no matter how they happened.

Star, yep David withdrew at the very last minute and Lapentti got to go in as a lucky loser.

hmmm, yes, but let's not make posts that sound like both were equally bad. rainer was broken much less and much less convincingly. so writing about "players" in plural is deceptive to some extent. the fact is that Rainer often gets broken a few times and breaks a ton. that is why he is #6 in the world. mainly because of his great returns. his serve is not that big, but when it is on and precise he can zip through several service games.

but I will agree that Blake was inexplicably atrocious (I cannot give all of that credit to Rainer's returning although I am sure that was a big part of it in putting Blake under pressure). i guess blake is just really slumping and now that he cannot just outpower or overthleticize players on a regular basis he has no plan B.

I wasn't saying anything about the players themselves, I was saying the match was just an awful one.

Blake needs help. bad.

thats very tough on nalbandian he only needed to win one match to stop srichaphan going to houston, i doubt grosjean or phillipoussis will win this tournie so he should still be ok.

Well David's injury isn't just a pulled muscle. If he pushes it, he'll have to have surgery it sounds like, and that would be devestating, far more devestating than not making it to Houston if that were to happen. So surely he made the right decision and we just hope that he gets better in time for Houston

Those wrist injuries are bad. One put Agassi out for quite awhile several years ago. But I would think that David would know that he couldnt play even yesterday. It's not something that gets better overnight.

Deboogle!.
10-29-2003, 02:35 PM
quite true... he was probably just holding out hope for as long as possible. A lot of people thought he would've gone, played one point, and then retired just to get the 1 CR point. I'm glad he didn't, though.

I officially give up on Schalken. Until next year, that is... honestly, they may well be playing in France, but he just beat this guy Carraz a couple of months ago when he won the title in Brazil! Considering that indoors is not only his best surface but Paris is his best TMS (he beat Roddick and Kuerten to reach the quarters here two years ago), this result is laughable.

Still, everything else turned out fine: Federer, Schuettler, Pavel etc.

Is Pavel this guy who has a great one handed backhand?
Probably tomorrow they will show his match against Coria.

Sjengster
10-29-2003, 05:11 PM
He is indeed. He was terrific last year when he made the RG quarters, dismantling Haas along the way before losing to Corretja in that weird match where he had to drive back to Germany for the birth of his son and come back to effectively throw the last few games out of sheer exhaustion.

Sjengster
10-29-2003, 05:22 PM
Eek, a bagel in the third! This combined with his demolition job on Santoro in the Madrid semis last year makes you wonder how he ever lost to him (which he did, in the semis of Dubai last year which Santoro went on to win). So, Novak v Ferrero indoors again... I was anticipating a Novak victory at the Masters Cup last year after his amazing win over Agassi, but unlike the A-Train Ferrero had showed up mentally for the match and ended up overpowering him from the baseline.

10-29-2003, 05:23 PM
Theres only one Timmy Henman :worship: :tennis:

Sjengster
10-29-2003, 05:24 PM
I bet Federer would prefer Verkerk, but I bet Hrbaty wins. If only because Verkerk is a big server, hence a simpler game and he makes more erratic errors whereas Hrbaty is very consistent and will certainly test Federer if he is feeling injured. Wasn't Hrbaty the guy who took Federer out on the town when he was younger and got him introduced to, ahem, the local nightlife? I seem to remember reading that somewhere...

Well actually, I didn't really care that much about the Rusedski match - I would have done if he had shown any signs of caring and lost, but he was so listless and lethargic in that match that his losing didn't really annoy me at all, I was amazed he even took it to five.

Oh, I'm sure he will, and Henman will beat him because he's a much better returner and a much smarter player of the big servers than either Rusedski or Schalken. Bjorkman will take out Gregory in the next round, anyhow.
