This is great news, since both Mario and Ivan didn't want anyone else other than Pilic or Goran to be the captain!!

Ajmo captain Ljubo !!!! :D

Here's his statement abt DC from today:

Ljubo was pretty emotinal talking abt it today, saying sth like this:
''At the end of it all, it's us, the players who come out losing from all this. We are brougth to uncomfortable position without doing anything, ppl in the locker-room ask us what is Goran going to be like as captain, and we have to say that we don't have a captain!

They should have sit and talk, I doubt that they couldn't come to a solution. It's stupid to put someone as a capatain who doesn't belong there. It's less shame not to have anyone, than to put someone, in whom we don't have confidence.

It would bother me to have just anybody sitting next to me (of those ppl suggested). Imagine a situation; 5th set, 2 all, and I start to wonder 'what is this guy doing next to me'. I'd rather have Mario sitting next to me in that moment.
With some of them I have more negative experiences than positive ones.''

From the results,Ivan totally deserves to be DC CAPTAIN! :bigclap::woohoo::dance:

Sure he does, but I can't wait for Goran to come back (they'll meet with him soon to disccus his comeback), and I think that Ljubo is much better as player for us for next few years :D and then the team will be complete with Goran :D

this was coming anyways, not this soon. Ivan will take over team after he is done playing, probly in 4-5 years :)

I wouldn't be so sure, first, he'll probably be still playing then, and I think that at that time, Goran will establish himself as captain.

he wont play past age 30. and Goran will quit few times before than, he has no passion for it.

Well I can't say what is Goran going to do, cause God knows that no one knows how his mind works, specially me
But if he is to be the captain till time Ivan retires, doesn't necessairly mean that he'll replace him right away.

And as things happen in Croatian tennis, we might have 5 different captains till then

Ivan will probly take year or two to just get away from the game, relax, have fun with his wife, than he will start missing the game and get back in it, as a coach or run a tennis school, than DC captian

01-16-2006, 08:52 PM
All that takes more than five years, you know kids and all

Seriously, you think too much ahead, I still can't see him as retired player  now that he's having the time of his life, I wanna watch him on top more years, and I feel that the best for him is yet to come

Ljubicic to lead Croatia's Davis Cup defenseAssociated Press

ZAGREB, Croatia -- Ivan Ljubicic agreed to be a player-captain when Croatia begins defense of its Davis Cup title against Austria next month.

Nikki Pilic and Goran Ivanisevic turned down the job, said Radimir Cacic, head of the Croatian Tennis Federation, on Monday.

Ljubicic helped Croatia win the Davis Cup for the first time last month. He will lead the team only for the Feb. 10-12 matches, Cacic said.

Pilic stepped down after becoming the first to captain two nations to the Davis Cup crown. He led Germany to success in 1988, 1989 and 1993
