10-26-2003, 04:32 AM
really have lost interest in paris but andy must lose early!!

10-26-2003, 08:23 PM
Andy was the guest of stade 2 this evening, he seemed to be motived, so, let's wait...

LIZ in the "Journal du dimanche", there was a big article about Paulo, a nice article (not very original but nice), so I translated (I tried to translate  )

"Mathieu after the eclypse"

His look is the same as in autumm 2002, when he won Moscow and Lyon: gentle and haunsted at once, with a point of anxiety, indelible, in the eye. A look that reveals his fragility. PHM lived a nightmarish year 2003.
Ranked 76th,is spite a totten year, he succeeded to limit the damages with his final in Palermo and a semi in Moscow.
"It was a catastroph, an infernal spiral. On the court, I was saying to myself "today maybe i'm going to find again my game", and more i was thinking to that, less it was working".
Summer was still worse " After Wylby, I didn't really what to do, I did sleepless nights, I was thinking tennis everytime, I was sad into my passion".
In Halle, he retierd against his crual winner of davsi cup, YOuzhny, in Cincinnatti, he lost against Arazi, coached by T. Champion, whi had left him one month before.
After 9 defreats in the first round, PHM thinks "negative".
"I thought to the challengs, a real jungle !". Without coach, he reaches his first quarter of the year in Bucharestn then flies to Germany to reach , in taxi, 2h30 after, a small tounament in POland. A moment full of distress, in dead of night, that he passed to phone with his parents.
"He lived an exceptionnal year 2002", says Guy Forget. HIs 2 victories on the tour, and the final of davis cup showed him in which was going look like his carrier (??). After all these emotions, maybe Paulo came back too soon at the competition".
"I can"t be satisfied to be 76 th ranked, but, with the passing time, I' proud of me. It was hard after all these defeats, but everytime, I started working again thr following day, even when I was alone".
"When he will win a grand slam, and I'm sure he will one day, it will be thanks to his loss against Youzhny", says Forget.
When we recall the davis cup in Bercy, Paul Henri says "It's the biggest memory of my life", but even so, admits 'In Moscow this year, they organied a ceremony on the court about the davis cup, then showed pics on the geant screen: it really gave me a pain in the butt !".
"Paulo has nothing to reproach himself with this match. He ws brave. At his age, I wouldn't had done less well", says the french captain.
"Tha davis cup is very important, but it was less worse than the year I juts have lived. I know I'll have the occasion the play again in davis cup. Anyway, I consider I represent France every week on the tour..".

One year ago, Paul Henri Mathieu was dreaming of the place of N°1. He never precised when he wanted to reach it. At only 22, he still can dream, he has all a carrier a front of him.

A comment: :inlove: !!!!!!!!

10-26-2003, 08:29 PM
   ...I just have read again my translation...shame on me ! :awww:

I am so so so can't imagine...

10-27-2003, 01:18 PM
I'm really sorry, Marine! I'm sad for Nono. And I'm sad for all the fans who were hoping to see him. :crying2:

This BNP Paribas Masters 2003 will unfortunately dispute without Arnaud Clément. The Inhabitant of Aix officialized his forfeit, because of an injury to the right thigh, the quadriceps. He will be replaced in the draw by the lucky-loser Dominik Hrbaty.

This forfeit was expected. Arnaud Clément had indeed retired last week in the second round in Basle, against the Argentinian David Nalbandian. Hurt in the right quadriceps, "La Clé" carried out a test Sunday, hoping for a miracle. He obviously made a point of trying his chance at a tournament that is very dear to his heart, but the medical profession made him see reason.

10-27-2003, 03:33 PM

I'm going to forget 2003 quickly.
I wait for Seb, then I stop with tennis until the australian, 2004 can't be worse than this bloody year .

10-27-2003, 05:40 PM
In spite of y total disappointment after paulo's defeat, I watched richard's match, and now, i am still more disapointed and disguted bu tennis !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have to know that Richard played very well, I was very impressed !
He was leading 3/1 in the second set !
Then, he got 6 match points in the tier break !!!!!!!
Then, he lost 6/4 in the 3th set...

Realy, this evening, I am in a terrible state ! I'va a headache, I am tired, I'm fed up with these Frenchies who are not able to finish a match !!!
That'll teach me, to support players who don't have mental !
I don't choose the good players...

Hopefully for my mental health, The season is finished, i need a rest...nomore tennis before 2004.

10-27-2003, 05:46 PM

Paulo's interview

10-27-2003, 11:33 PM
HHHmmmmmmmm I am saddened by their performance too....still have to watch Paulo's match but I know from what I saw last night he was playing pathetically...and I only saw the first 3 games *sigh*

Richard tho....whilst he did have 6 points I am nothing but impressed by him....had he played that match earlier this year it would have been over just as quick as it had started....his game has most definately improved from when I saw him in Janurary and his physical form is much stronger.... this is just a taste of things to come.....he didnt lose the match cos he is crap - he lost it due to lack of "big" match experience and being able to close it out is daunting...its just to bad that one of those 18 aces couldnt seal it for him.

Next year will be better.....

10-27-2003, 11:34 PM
Uuuhhhmmmm will someone please be kind enough to tell me what Paulo said in his interview?! lol

10-28-2003, 09:34 AM
shortly,he said that he played poorly yesterday and far from his best level. he said also that he had a horrible year, that if at the beginning of the year someone told him "u'll be n.80 in the world at the end of 2003" he would have answered "are u joking?".
"this year was like I've lived for 10 years..." dunno how to explain means that he feels like he's 10 years older after this year (after all the bad experiences he went tru).
then he said the first thing he's going to do is to find a coach.

10-28-2003, 12:47 PM
Fuc.... president !!!!!!!!!!
In l'equipe, it's written, about Paulo:
And why ?? :fiery: I really don't undrestand why Paulo can't choose a FFT's coach, what is the problem ??? It's unfair !! He has to find a good coach and this crappy president doesn't help him !

10-28-2003, 12:48 PM
Sorry..."luxe" and not "muxe".

10-28-2003, 01:10 PM
"Arnaud on holiday" (L'equipe)

Good holiday Arnaud and come back in good form in januar !

10-28-2003, 02:49 PM
Thanks Marine. I hope Nono (and Camille) have a nice holiday.

Edit - a rough translation -
After going through tests yesterday morning (monday) at Bercy, Arnaud Clément made the decision to withdraw from the tournament. Suffering from a muscular strain to the right thigh since his retirement against Nalbandian last week, the number 2 Frenchman constantly suffered during the weekend in spite of complete rest "the pain is always there, as soon as I put any weight on my right leg, I feel it badly, and I do not want to worsen the wound", he said yesterday before leaving the POPB. "It would have been ridiculous to insist (to play) and to put on a pathetic show for the public. Some can play with this kind of injury while bluffing, but with my type of game, I can't do it if I am not at 100%. It is all the more angering that I felt I was hitting the ball well, I was treated to training and playing in this superb court, where the atmosphere has developed well these last years, that excited me very much. Now I will go on holiday, for at least 2 or 3 weeks, including one with Camille (his girlfriend) somewhere sunny ".

I didn't see Richard's match, but from what I heard he gave it away. (?) I never know what kind of defeats are worse, the ones where they get pounded - or the ones where they come really close to winning.

10-28-2003, 10:23 PM
omg, Camille is a very, very lucky girl. Imagine going somewhere sunny *with* Arnaud...

marine!! what happened in bercy?!

11-01-2003, 04:06 PM
Lindsayfan, I tried to get pics of Guy for you, but the sightings were all in the evening (he looks like the Michelin Man in his down parka!) Sorry.

Paris was a blast, spotted Nono once, not looking particularly well. He definately needs a bit of sun, as he was looking rather pallid and tired.

Saw lots of South American and Spanish boys. I caught the Gasquet-Gaudio match. Richard put up quite a fight and had such wonderful support from the spectators, but Gaston pulled it out (I thought it was going to be a blowout, actually.)

But I now have another Frenchie to follow: Julien Benneteau. Not only does he look like DiP, he plays like him as well!!!!! I look forward to seeing him play more often.

Who here can tell me the name of Llodra's coach? Just wondering.

11-01-2003, 11:05 PM
what you mean by saying that Guy looks like the Michelin Man?
could u post here all the pix of french players u took?thanks!

11-02-2003, 03:32 AM
*coughs* Michelle.....Extremely jealous of you right go to see Richie in the flesh *sigh*

11-02-2003, 02:40 PM
He's got a great game, just needs a little more mental toughness. I enjoyed watching his game but have to admit that Gaston had my attentions.... However, I still can't get the Allez Richard songs out of my head...what amazing crowd support!

Not to be jealous, as I prefer Julien when it comes to young Frenchies anyway ;)

And Lindsayfan, I sadly have NO pics of French tennis players, but will have some copies from my friend once she gets her film developed. Promise to take more come Miami... And the Michelin Man was our little joke, as Guy's parka (all puffy) kind of made him look like the Michelin Man. It was far funnier in the cafe after a bottle of Veuve, though.

11-02-2003, 04:19 PM
's true, I saw too his parka ! lol

11-02-2003, 04:22 PM
However, I still can't get the Allez Richard songs out of my head...what amazing crowd support!

I miss that !!! If only i would had come wednesday !

11-02-2003, 06:22 PM

11-02-2003, 09:12 PM

11-02-2003, 09:51 PM
Not to be jealous, as I prefer Julien when it comes to young Frenchies anyway ;) you mean Julien Gely or am I totaly off the track here?! lol

11-02-2003, 11:01 PM
Too funny, Marine :p mdr here...I'm glad that someone else thought it was humorous, as I thought it was champagne induced madness.

To answer Lindsayfan's question, a parka is a down-filled coat which has the innate ability to render its wearer into a shapeless blob. Haven't worn one since I lived in Chicago, though!

And Julien refers to the beautiful Julien Benneteau, who happens to resemble Arnaud DiPasquale (if one has had an armagnac or two, but who's counting???) somewhat in physicality, mostly has the same game as DiP. He's a cutie. Hope he will be in Miami next year!

11-02-2003, 11:28 PM
I thought it was champagne induced madness

u mean that Guy was drunk? or it was you to be drunk? :p

11-02-2003, 11:29 PM you mean Julien Gely

Liz,u r totally obsessed with this guy :p

11-03-2003, 01:30 AM
u mean that Guy was drunk? or it was you to be drunk?

It is always safe to presume in these situations, that it is Michelle who was drunk. :drink:

damn her
is she even still playing? shes was ranked like 4000th last time i checked

All "Camille is sh*te at tennis" jokes can be sent to me at Thank you.
