I know people living in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide are now getting the Main Draw live on channel 7. I live on the Gold Coast so unfortunately we are not getting it. So you guys who are lucky enough can you please post any info and matchups that you hear about in this thread so everybody can see it.

Thanks

Hewitt-Federer semi looms
January 13, 2006

LLEYTON Hewitt was today placed in the same half of the Australian Open draw as top seed and world No.1 Roger Federer.

Hewitt will likely have to beat the Swiss in the semi-finals to claim a first Australian Open crown on January 29.

Hewitt, who lost last year's final at Melbourne Park to Marat Safin, is scheduled to play No.6 Guillermo Coria from Argentina in the quarter-finals.

If the seedings hold up, the other men's semi-final will pit American Andy Roddick against David Nalbandian from Argentina.

Federer begins the pursuit of a second Australian title against wildcard Denis Istomin from Uzbekistan.

Hewitt will play Czech Republic's Robin Vik in the first round.

Women's top seed Lindsay Davenport has been drawn to play Russian No.4 seed Maria Sharapova in the semi-finals.

The other semi-final is scheduled to pit Belgium's second seed, Kim Clijsters, against France's Amelie Mauresmo.

Davenport faces Australia wildcard Casey Dellacqua in the first round and has been drawn in the same half as Venus Williams and Justine Henin-Hardenne.

Advertisement:
Champion and 13th seed Serena Williams will meet Li Na from China.
Former world No.1 Martina Hingis, making a return to the game after foot and ankle injuries forced her to retire in 2002, has been granted a wildcard for the year's first grand slam and is drawn against 30th seed Vera Zvonareva from Russia.

Good draw for Andy, I think, Chela is very beatable, and he's someone who likes to use gamesmanship and wind his opponent up, so hopefully Andy won't be put off.

Too bad AO didn't pull what Wimbledon did, and seed Hewitt ahead of Roddick. Probably more justified than putting Roddick ahead of Hewitt there, and would have evened the score. Of course, Hewitt draws Federer's side both times. I don't even particularly care for Lleyton, but it only seems fair that he be on the opposite side, particularly with all the withdrawals.

dbnumberone

I bet half his 1st rounders last year were, & gets one in the AO - that's one way to keep your ranking up!

Wimbledon's seeding uses a published formula, it wasn't subjective, they didn't just decide to move people around out of 'fairness' or whatever. :o

Formula.....really? First I've heard of that. Any idea where it's published, and why does it only seem to apply to a small handful of players?

I was under the impression that they typically take select players who have had past success on grass and move them up subjectively. Recently guys like Roddick, Grosjean, Henman, and maybe even Tommy J.
