Maybe he's just really good at them

I give him credit for digging his heels and intimidating his opponents with those serves. it's all about the pressure he exerts more than anything. but hey that is what wins him matches. just would have been nice to see Gilles win this TB as he should have. but many many times a silly error or DF from opponents like Ivan, max or mardy is all it has taken to turn the tide. ah, but such is tennis. still feel like guys are getting on top of roddy's serve somehow (and i like that!!!)

ok, he may have won this match, but I doubt he will be a champion as great as Sampras or Agassi... Don't think he's good enough...

Did anyone here say that he's gonna be as great as Sampras or Agassi?
No.

Smells like sour grapes to me...

Elseneer was born in 1978

And yes... Andy does not choke and that is a huge part of winning tie-breakers. He couldn't have the TB record he does this year winning them all by luck and at the fault of the other player. Gads, at least give him a little credit where it is due!

yes, silly errors from his opponents usually have turned the tide. But Andy himself made lots of errors today to get to the TB itself for example. Errors are part of the game, like you said.

So he has pretty much missed the boat already.

Elseneer has massive serve as well, just like Ljubicic...And they haven't won a slam, so no need to bash Andy all the time

Yes, obviously. Philippousis either and his serve is great!

btw, Rochus beat Robredo.... that one won't be as easy for Andy, Brad better really get through to him tonight!

Andy is still very young and has improved every single year since turning pro. You don't rise to #2 in the world with a chance to finish the year at #1 by luck.

The Boiled Egg, Ivan's backhand isnt pathetic, it is great and it has always been great, Ivan is known because of his great serve and his great backhand, his weak point is his forehand, his backhand has always been great.

I don't think rankings points were Federer's concern in a tourney like this. It's his hometown and he wants to win it.

J. Corwin
10-23-2003, 10:42 PM
Of course winning a title is always a goal of a player too. He would have loved to racked up another title to his count, and especially it's his hometown.

What? No love for Henman/Zib?

Yashirobai
10-23-2003, 10:52 PM
The best thing would have been that Roger had lost in the final (so he gets tired without adding any points) and not to Roddick (to Nalbandian if possible)... but it's still great thet Federer lost for Ferrero's chances, which is what I care about...

And it doesn't look like he is going to win Basilea soon...

Deboogle!.
