:woohoo: I so called this, check it out at the Predict-The-Score thread for Sydney.

The Gucc defeats Ferrero for the second time, winning 41/44 first serve points and firing 27 (5 second serve) aces along with going 2/3 on break point opportunities.

I wonder if this will curse Ferrero for the rest of the year like it did in '04, :haha:.

Seriously though, sucks for JCF, but Gucci got me some nice cash. Good luck to both in '06.

why what's the prob? you all think JCF is a top player still? He's a solid top 20 pro, like Hrbaty, Robredo, Stepanek etc. Not an elite player.

He just needs a confidence booster. Don't forget he won the French and was a finalist at the US Open the same year and a finalist at the Masters Cup where he lost an epic 5 sets battle against Hewitt.

He doesn't possess the confidence anymore after his injury and illnesses. Sigh!

JC deserved to win this match. Usually I'll admit if JC got outplayed, but the better player lost today. All this guccione guy can do is serve. I haven't seen a better server before actually, but this guy has no game, just a HUGE serve. JC played so well, it was like if JC could return the serve, then JC would win the point quickly because the other guy sucked so bad. JC does need to learn how to cope with big servers, but since when has tennis been all about the serve. This guy will get at least into the top 30, because i doubt anyone other than federer could return this serve. I think Ferrero did the best out of the situation, so I'm happy.

He's not top-ten material; top-40 maybe, but he needs to learn how to hit a few groundstrokes. Actually, he and Richard "the-king-of-inside-out-forehands" Fromberg seem to have been working on that forehand, for all the people saying that Guccione is only a serve, that forehand isn't a bad shot.

Yeah, I thought Guccione's forehand was pretty good too, whereas last time I watched him play against JCF I remember thinking that he had nothing more than a serve. His groundstrokes aren't all that reliable and his return of serve is fairly bad, but he hit quite a number of hard penetrating forehands and followed it into the net.

Great win for Gucc :yeah:
He served really well like last time, put most of his volleys away with a lot of stick, and his groundstrokes were huge.

A few years ago I would have described Guccione as a poor man's Karlovic, as he had a huge serve, and good volleys. Seeing the match today I think his groundstrokes are now better than Karlovic's. He was trading shots with JCF very well from the baseline, matching him for power, and hit quite a few groundstroke winners, including a great backhand winner after a long rally on break point at 5-5 in the 3rd.

Gucci! :bounce:  :rocker:

The better player won on the day! :p

Serve was amazing in 2nd and 3rd sets! what rythm he had going!
Forehand worked pretty well needs to work on backhand!

Top 50 is realistic goal by end of the year imo!

If he gets a good coaching he can be a very danegrous opponent on grass and fast surfaces. That serve of his is really awesome. And I differ from most of the opinions here, I´ve even seen him playing quite decently from baseline on clay in past Roland Garros (beat Ventura there)

I was at the match.

Guccione played like a beast. It was bizarre, if Chris didn't make an early mistake, I felt like he was more likely to win the point. I thought he had the better of the long rallies. He hit some massive forehands as well, like the one to break Ferrero at 5-5. JC had control of the point, ripped a backhand crosscourt, and Gucc ran across, flicked his wrist, and smacked a winner down the line out of nowhere.

I think maybe TA has finally made the Australian Courts a little faster, because aside from the slicing or wide kicking serves, everything was 205+. I mean, I know Ferrero doesn't deal with serves well, but I doubt anyone could've broken Gucc in sets 2 and 3.

I mean, I went to that match after watching Karlovic the day before, and I was still amazed at Chris' serve.
