Color me shocked  Anyone saw the match? What happened? This isn't exactly the surface that Volandri should be a threat to the No. 5 player in the world. Nevertheless, CONGRATS VOLANDRI :D

Didn't see the match however from what I have seen of Davydenko he was in pretty good form so this a very good win for Fillipo.

Perhaps this could be the year when Volandri achieves solid results on hard courts. By not watching the match I have no clue if in the offseason he improved his serve and aggressive play, or if Nikolay was just off.

It's no suprise that this happen, I suspect the boy (Davydenko) will drop out of the Top 30 this year.

One year proves little of nothing and is only good for a trip to the bank.

Bravo, Volandri.

I'm a little dissapointed. I like Davy and would love to see him build on last year. He has very consistent, solid groundstrokes and there is something about his persona I like, a hard working modesty. Good luck with your next tourny Nik!

Nice work by Volandri, but this makes Dmitry's loss today that much more bitter. He would have had a golden opportunity to make his first final, and a potential first crack at Fed. On the other hand, Fed-Monfils could be interesting.

A win over a top 10 on hard court, even though it was over the most "winnable" of the top 10, is not bad for a player who is the scum of the earth on hard according to some MTFers.

I heard he got a new racquet during the break... so maybe his racquet finally gave him a serve! Bwahaha!

Anyway, Nice Job Filippo!!! :woohoo:

Now, when does reaching the quarterfinals of a tournament suddenly indicate that a player will drop out of the top 30??

This tournament was a damn good start for Nikolay, would be for any player and your prediction is rediculous.
And Nikolay might not be a Roger Federer or a Marat Safin, but he's got good strokes, a good mind, and an amazing year behind him with, and hopefully as his start in Doha suggests, a good year ahead of him.
