Tommy won his first match in 2006 with 5:7 6:2 7:5 over Wawrinka. And he has a new haircut too :) I'm not yet convinced, but its kinda hot

It's a bit poofy looking, but I like that photo the best of the ones that I've seen. Definitely a very good looking man, and I hope this new haircut is a symbol of a new year and a new attitude about tennis. I would love to see Tommy in the Top 20 this year, that is where he belongs.

I would love to see Tommy back in the Top Twenty :) And he is a very good looking man, but that haircut  Oh well I don't guess haircuts bother tennis playing :p

What a lot of news in this short part of the new year:) New trainer, new sponsor, new haircut and he also seperated from Giulia Siegel... I can't say I'm sad about that

Tommy only have had one realistic chance on match point, rest was all good serves by Henman

the best would be if he would have won 6-2 6-4 and to break Henman in the 2 long games, but I was not scared this time, he looked good and I haave had big feeling he wins

and next time he should make from 0/30 a few times 0/40 or 15/40 and not always from 0/30 to 40/30 like it was for Henman three or four times

I must admit I was a bit scared when he started to talk to himself again
Yes, these two games, when Haas had 30-0 and Henman came back to win the game made me go crazy it was alle back and forth. But Haas proved a strong will at the end :)

Another good win for Tommy :) I just wish I could see it  And I'm glad to hear that he and that woman broke up. IMO she wasn't helping his tennis so now he can focus on tennis and I bet Tommy's father is happy about the break up also

That was a great result against my "special friend" Youzhny :)

Youzhny lost a bit of his fame as "German nemesis" today ;)

Neely, Alexia, or someone, can you please tell us a little bit more about the match? I may not get to see Tommy actually play for months (unless he plays Roddick at the AO, stupid ESPN) and I am really curious how he looks, fitness wise, and if Hogstedt is already having an affect on him.

Alexiana was the one that reported the split. See Page 1 of this thread for the information. Another win for Tommy!
And yes please any of you that can actually see Tommy's matches give those of us that can't see him some more details about the matches. There is no where I can watch any tennis at all right now! I'm not happy about it, but there is nothing I can do about it!

From Tommy's official website:

Qatar Open 2006: I´m in the semifinals
5.01.06

6:4, 6:3 - victory over Mikhail Youzhny. Roger Federer could be my next opponent.
First of all I´m glad to be in the semifinals. That was my goal before the start of the tournament. Everything on top is a bonus, now.

Against Mikhail Youzhny it was a little strange, today. Five breaks in the first set. A 5:0 lead in the second set. Still, I had to fight hard. You have to stay focused in those matches. You just have to win them and I did it.

Roger Federer could be my next opponent in the semifinals. First, he has to play Baghdatis in the quaters. But, it would be a great challenge to play Roger in the first tournament of the year.

Poor Tommy. I wouldn't want to be playing Roger in the semi-finals or anywhere else for that matter

I missed his match today against Youzhny and the one against Wawrinka, but I saw the complete match against Henman and judging from that I couldn't say he plays much different under Hogstedt than before. He just played good and didn't have a concentration hole. On a few occassions I had the impression that his forehand is better, because he seemed to pull it through better and not so tentatively like sometimes in the past, but his overall gamestyle is still the same. Fee, it's very hard to make predictions or to give opinions about his fitness, I can't say

Thanks Neely. It might be too early to see obvious changes to his game or fitness level. I wish I could go to Indian Wells this year and see for myself if there is a change from one year to the next. Perhaps my plans will change...

Alexiana
01-06-2006, 04:52 PM
I agree with Neely, there isn't much changed in his game (fortunately). He stayed focused during the big points and played a great back- and forehand. The only thing, that wasn't going so well was his game at the net, especially the stops. But at least he was trying to vary in his game. Hogstedt always tried to calm him down, when he started to talk to himself again ;) After the match against Henman he lifted his energy drink to Hogstedt  I think he's the right trainer for him.
Today against Federer I could only see the match from 3-6, 2-2 and he was playing really well, but Federer had one of his very good days so in the ende he didn't really had a chance. But he tried hard and believed in his opportunities.

On a sports channel they were showing the scoring from tennis matches going on at different places. That's about all I get any more is the scores from TV   Tommy's match with Roger was 6-3 and 6-3 according to the TV. Oh well there is nothing to be ashamed about in a loss to Roger after all most players lose to Roger!

Neely
01-06-2006, 10:25 PM
Okay, the tournament is over now for him. I didn't see the match, but I expected a little bit closer score than that. But okay, it's Federer he lost to... and even sweeter it would have been if he had won it :p

16681
01-07-2006, 11:15 PM
When Roger is being Roger, it is hard for anyone to beat him so I don't think Tommy did that badly. Well it is on to the next tournament to see what Tommy can do there :)

Of course, I'm sure I won't get to watch that either
It upsets me that there is all this tennis going on, but I can't get any TV coverage of it

Fee
01-09-2006, 06:47 PM
Relax Mae, you'll get coverage twice a day from Australia on ESPN2, beginning Sunday the 15th. Check your local listings. Even people who have the Tennis Channel aren't getting that much coverage right now.

Thanks Fee I obviously didn't know about the ESPN2 coverage. But I must say it is about time they started to do more tennis :)

Fee

ESPN isn't doing 'more tennis' this is pretty much the same coverage they had last year. They show 3 of the 4 slams. They will also broadcast some of the Davis Cup tie in February, some matches from Indian Wells and Miami in March, then their usual summer coverage. Fox Sports Network will show the semis and finals from San Jose in February. Run a search for your area at tv.yahoo.com about once a week to find out what is on for you.
