I was impressed with Henman's performance today. It was very satisfying to see some of the good old vintage flair on display. Onwards to the second round!

oh damn shit, what a cruel desillusion, I feel so sad and frustrated, richard missed so much opportunity... that's crual, we waited 4 monthes for richard to play and now he's back and he loses his first match. I'm so disappointed...

good match today from Tim. Better than he played in any match last year. Gasquet hit some brilliant shots though.

Did Tim come into the net so often during the match? There's no coverage of the tournament here, only Hopman :(

he came into the net alot. He was very patient because Gasquet kept passing him but he stuck at it.

Tim was very brave, even though Richard kept shooting unbelievable passing shots from both forehand and backhand through the whole match, he kept going to the net and won. Congrats Tim :D It's great he's back to his 2004 form. Richard  You had a lot of bad luck on the draw, this match would be a fair semifinal.

"Shoking" but predictable...
Richie has to get re-used to playing big matches.
Nothing is worrying, the score was really close (Richie had break points in the decisive game).
Congrats Tim, the old guy () should be happy.

Gasquet played well, but Tim played just that little bit better.
It was like watching the Tim of old with the great volleys. :)

 Not the best way for Gasquet to start the season, but good luck to Henman. I hope he can advance far here and do well in 2006, it's nice to see serve and volleying (and not even backed up with a big serve).

Glad to hear that Tim started this year in fine form.n :) I hope that he can continue this and have a 2006 more like 2004, and that his 2005 form will be but a distant memory.

A badrep from one of the Frenchies to you.

thats done lol :o

no,I havent yet but who said that the word "fair play" was english??? :o :p

not a bad match from richard,it was his first one against a good henman, not he Henman of Wimbledon for sure  he made some "genius points" but ith his lack of competition he made also some bad errors at crucial points.

Henman has more experience,he's31 and richard 19.Give him some time and some victories and you will see what richard gasquet really do. :p

Sydney:please have a good draw, not that kind of player in the first round :o

Congrats to Henman and english people :) ,its not easy for you waiting so much from Henman, the only good player in your country which made some results and made the top10.

:woohoo: I thought it was great of Tim to win in that way!!

I thought before the match that if he performed the way he had done last year I would just go in a corner and cry but he didn't and it was a brilliant display of shots. Ok some didn't always reach it but he played a lot better and it's such a positive start to 2006. :)

Not that surprising. Gasquet hasn't touched his racket during 3 months and has started playing again not so long ago (2 weeks). He was a bit slow and his serve was at 60%. Thus no cheap points on his serve and Henman, back to his best, was playing very well return volley. I found Tim very solid. People seem to forget that he was in the top10 not so long ago.

One more week of practice for Richie should improve things greatly. It was a tough first match yet.

Gasquet needs time to regain his marks, he couldn't train a lot with his elbow, and now he needs some match to regain his shots and his game. And facing a real good Henman, it would have been surprising to see richard winning! (tough i would have liked it happened...)

I thought Gasquet actually played fairly well considering his lay off. Sure he wasn't quite at his best which isn't surprising but he certainly didn't play badly. Tim won this match. Richard didnt lose it.
