Your Tennis Wish(es) for 2006

Angle Queen

There was a thread last year (http://www.menstennisforums.com/showthread.php?t=23036) about your wishes for the new year. It’s the one that got me hooked on MTF. Damn.

In that vein, then, tell me what your tennis wishes are for 2006.

Here are a few of mine:

I wish...

for Hewitt to win another slam, preferably the AO.

for Henman to make one last gasp run at a Wimby title.

for Roddick to beat Hewitt in the USO finals.

for Federer to finally receive the attention from the US media he so richly deserves.

for McEnroe to win a match on the “regular” tour.

for Gasquet to stay healthy and challenge for a Top 10 spot.

for Santoro to keep playing...and entertaining us.

for the ATP to actually promote doubles instead of trying to rub it out.

for Nadal to lose those pirate pants.

for youngsters...like Baghdatis, Monfils, Djokovic to really make some noise on the tour.

And finally, for MTFers everywhere...that they be treated to a variety of high quality tennis, be it through local TV coverage or on the net somewhere. I look forward to goofing off in OOP with those that don’t ;)

I wish the doping in tennis was over.

I wish Gael Monfils won Roland Garros.

I wish Juan Martin del Potro won Sopot ATP tournament before he's going to be famous.

I wish David Nalbandian won Wimbledon and took #1 place for the end of the year.

I wish Poland had a player in top 100 after 30 years or something.

I wish Marcelo Rios was back and playing with McEnroe.

I wish Guga and Younes could play a final of US Open.

I wish Michael Ryderstedt from Sweden came for Wrocław ATP Challenger in February.

Amen.

I want Nalbandian to win Wimbledon and Gaudio to win Roland Garros.
I want Murray to get far at Wimby and makes the British to start the Murraymania.
I want to see Horna, Monaco winning their first tournament.

- Coria to win RG (with me there watching)
- Tim to win 2 grand slams
- Roddick to win the remaining Grand Slam (AO probably)
-Gasquet to have a good year, including 1AMS win and a slam semi.
- Henman, Roddick, Coria and Gasquet all ending the year in the top 10.
- Mathieu to finish top 20.
- Doubles, to be treated with more respect.
- USA or France to win the DC.
- Kunitsyn to start doing better , outside of Russia and to improve his ranking so he can make more main draws.
- Murray not living up to supposed potential (absolutely no second weeks at slams for a start).
- A Hewitt/Murray match (Hip, Hip Hewrray), wants this to be on grass in England, so I can watch and get overexcited. (:
- A personal one- for me to make it to as many tournaments as possible, this year. More live tennis!
- Good Health for all players, to make the tour more competitive.

Well since this is one of the few places I can be selfish:

I want to be able to watch many matches where it doesn't matter who wins but that the fight for the title is well deserved and very entertaining.

If any top player retires then may he do it with loads of pizazz.

That when I go to Vegas this year- I actually get to watch tennis

That I continue with all the wonderful folks I have met on this board and that I get to meet up with them at a tennis tournament and not sit behind them not knowing who they were;)

That I continue to have adventures at tennis tournaments but only of my choosing;)

I wish Andre Agassi to go out in style.
I wish Spadea to meet his goal of the top ten.
I wish Andy Roddick to finally win another slam, and in some kind of miracle, to make it to the second week of the French, only to make it to the final of Wimbledon to lose in a close match to Federer.
I wish Marat to find his knee and his head. And keep it.
I wish Nadal to do better on grass and hardcourts and to keep it up on clay.
I wish Mary Carillo to learn to be quiet.
I wish to never hear "HELLO!" or "THE DROPPER!" ever again.
I wish Carlos Moya to do amazing all year and at least make it to the second week of the French and the Austrailian.
I wish Marat Safin to cut his hair.
And, finally, I wish Roger to keep his Wimbledon streak going; he deserves it.

Well, its a wish list, so I have decided to be greedy...

Federer to win Roland Garros
Andy to win the USO
Marat to be healthy for one complete season
Henman to win Wimbledon
Agassi to admit this is his last year and go out in style
Robby G to stay in the top 20
Gasquet to stay healthy and move into the Top 10
JCF to get back into the Top 10 (by winning a hardcourt Masters)
Robredo to show up in San Jose (so I can be assigned to take him on one of the longer driving trips, like Practice facility #2 at rush hour...)
Kiefer to win something
Blake to stay in the Top 30
Moya in the Top 20 (come back one more time please)
Tommy Haas to stay healthy, get a decent woman in his life. Top 10 isn't impossible.
Gimelstob to be completely healthy for the entire season
Same thing for Brian Vahaly
Amer Delic to put his head together and realize his Top 50 potential
Dudi, Harel, and Noam to be healthy (and come back to the Sacramento Challenger in October for more fun!)
Jan-Mike to be completely healthy and pain-free, reclaiming his love for the game.
Glenn Weiner, John Paul Fruttero, and Alex Bogomolov to realize their full potential
Younes, Alexander Popp, Guga, and Schalken to come back one more time
Widom, Jenkins, Odesnik, and Fleishman to keep moving up the rankings
Horia Tecau to learn a second serve
A slam for Lindsay and slam for Clijsters.

And tickets to Wimbledon for me, this summer, even if it means giving up every other tournament that I would normally go to (except San Jose, won't give that up for any thing if I can help it).

3- Nalby wins a slam.
4- Roddick becomes a real threat again.
5- Safin gets healthy and plays the whole season.
6- Blake, Ferrero, Gasquet break into the top 10.
7- Moya, Henman, Haas, Escude, Guga & El-Aynaoui make a healthy come back.
8- Santoro keeps providing us with his magical play.
9- Agassi stays healthy, retires on his terms not on his body's terms.
10- Berdych, Murray, Monfils, Baghdatis break into top 30 and make a lot of noise while doing it.
11- Coria & Gaudio live up to their talent.
12- Doubles gest the attention and respect it deserves.
13- ATP is run by people who actually love tennis and not their pockets.
14- More compassionate and less spiteful comments on MTF.

And for WTA:

Rogelio to win Wimbledon and have a close run with Nadal for No 1
Marat to finally win USO again and reaching the 2nd week in every slam
PHM to get to top 20 (definitely Adam) :yeah: and stop choking at important points
Ancic to reach the Wimbledon final and win some decent tournaments
Murray and Baghdatis to continue their impressive rise
RUSSIA to win the DC :p

2. Roger winning RG and Basel (if Wimbledon could be added, even more fantastic)

Wishing bad things on other individuals is a bad omen and speaks volumes for character or lack there of, quite a tragedy.

This can't be taken quite seriously, but we shall proceed.

- Roger Federer wins Wimbledon for 4th consecutive time and defends his U.S Open Title, with decent result in Roland Garros (not really important to be quite honest to me) and same for Australian Open
- Richard Gasquet makes a GS Final.
- Gael Monfils leaps into the Top 15 and advances deep into a Slam.
- Safin and Berdych stay healthy, in-order to add top level competition on faster surfaces, avoiding any potential flukes.
- All in All, just good health and a positive season. :)

The past year has been so fraught with injuries that I really daren't hope for much, honestly. Obviously, I'm hoping that my favourite players (Richard, Paulo, Nalby, Marat, Roger) make improvements and reach higher standards but I'm not getting my hopes up, especially with the first two. ;)

1) Richard - I hope he stays injury-free and is able to play his best free-flowing tennis. I just wish to enjoy watching him play regardless of his results. :p

2) Paulo - Just hope he toughens up mentally! :o Everything should fall into place thereafter.

3) David - I'm hoping that he will be able to build on his terrific finish to 2005. As long as he keeps motivated, I'm sure he'll finally break through at one of the Grand Slams. :)

4) Marat - I just hope he stays injury-free. And less OAFish!

5) Roger - Sustaining his 2005 form would be some achievement! Looking forward to continue marvelling at his tennis. :worship:

What is it with people being happy when Rogelio's amazing streaks are broken. :(
I want him to get more Wimbledon titles than Sampras, and that in a row! :D

I am with you Maria. I would wish my favorite player wins rather than a player I don't like loses.

RUSSIA to win the DC :p

I will back you on this one too. Go Russia. :yeah:

And I know it's impossible but as it's all about wishes here - I WISH I could go to an ATP tourney next year (I can dream, right, even if it will never happen)

Nothing is impossible. Keep wishing. :)

My 2006 wishes:

That people here would be a little less fanatical and a lot more realistic.

That David would win one Slam this year. I don't care where. Oh, and another master's shield, please.

That the young guns would break through.

That Roger would win RG to complete the Grand Slam.

Federer to win RG (and beat Nadal on his way) and maybe also all four slams!!

Anyway, I before all wish tennis to be interesting enough - I think that is the only realy important thing.

Health, happiness, and more wins than losses for those in my signature. (And, possibly, successful career changes  )

Cool weather, but little/no rain in Adelaide, please Tim Bailey :awww: ?

Good health for everyone, in particular Agassi and Safin, and a haircut for the latter (though not as drastic as the former's).

As for winning majors, my wishes are expressed in a pseudo-code of my own devising, where "hurray!" terminates the program. The periods are there to force the alignment I want, because I thought brackets would be too hard to follow.

if(Federer = calendar year Grand Slam)
...hurray!
else
...Federer = RG & Wimbledon & no. 1
.....if (Agassi & Safin = GS each)
........hurray!
/* But because it is looking unlikely that good health will obtain for either in time to win at AO*/
.....else
........Agassi = USO
........Safin = TMC
........hurray!

Sesil wins the French and makes L'Equipe eat their crap

Hm , I am from Bulgaria , but I dont like Sesil , cause she's too arrogant . She took what she deserved for her unpleasant words . When I first heard of her 2 years before I was cheering for her , but now when I know what she is as a human I wont support her anymore . I dont care that shes from my country .

I wish:

For all the players to be healthy, I don't want to see any serious injuries this season.

For Rafa to improve as amazingly fast as he did in 2005, defend his RG title and win another GS, and keep his winning record against Rogelio :)

For Roger to continue to force everybody to become better players.

For (almost) everybody to stop thinking they cannot beat Roger.

For Marat to find the motivation and focus to win tournaments.

For Martina Hingis to make a successful comeback, hopefully reaching the top 10.

For Eurosport to show ATP rather than WTA matches.
