Rivalries 2006

I am curious what rivalries folks here would like to see not what is expected to happen. For example I was surprised that although Muster and MacEnroe overlapped they had never played each other until recently in the Champions Cup.
I haven't decided yet but I know there are lots of tennis afficiandos here.( My spelling be damned)

Thanks to those who take the time to answer.

Problem is, (1) rivalries take years to develop, and (2) they require players to play the same tournments. For instance, when Sampras, Agassi and Muster were in their prime in 1995, Sampras and Agassi met 5 times (12 times between '94 and '96). However...
*Sampras and Muster met just 1 time in '95 (2 times between '94 and '96)
*Agassi and Muster didn't meet in '95 (5 times between '94 and '95)

Having said that...
Gasquet/Nadal (non-clay events; 3 of the 4 times they've met have been on clay)
Hewitt/Roddick (I'd like to see Andy get back into this head-to-head)
Berdych/Nadal
Safin/Berdych
Safin/Gonzalez
Safin/Starace (clay)
Hanescu/Nadal (clay)
Federer/Nadal (clay)
Gaudio/Nadal (clay)
Hewitt/Coria*
Coria/Massu*

*pure entertainment value

Exactly which is why I said what you would like to see. So these could be rivalries started in 2006 and continued ;) I like all of your picks btw, thanks.

 Most of the Djokovic fans on here actually like Murray. There are about 2 Murray fans who are heavily anti-Djokovic. The fact that people are creating a huge rivalry on these boards out of nothing makes me laugh.

That said, as long as Serbia wins the DC tie against Israel.. Djokovic v. Murray is definitely a Davis Cup match I'd look forward to seeing, as are I think most Djokovic and Murray fans alike.

I'm pretty new to this board, but I did read it for a few months before I joined, and the impression I got by reading it was that a lot of Murray fans and a lot of Djokovic fans seemed to hate each other. Although it's probably just the case that it was a small, albeit vocal minority giving the impression that there was some sort of rivalry.

I'm still looking forward to seeing the two play each other though, it will be interesting to watch these two future stars meet.

good thread.I choose:
Andy Murray vs. Richard Gasquet
Nalbandian vs. Safin [1(clay)-1(hard) in 2004,didnt play within 2005](hard or grass, see if Nalby's got any chance to win)
Nalbandian vs. Federer(cant have enuf of it)
Federer vs. Safin(cant believe when I find the record 7-2,seems Marat may never win Roger on clay :o )(I choose hard court)

http://www.atptennis.com/en/players/headtohead/head2head.asp?player1=Murray%2C+Andy&player2=safin
And it was a lovely WTA scoreline :p
I'd suggest the ATP official replace the portrait of Marat with ur avatar!!

Haas-Kiefer could be even more interesting now that Haas has hired Kiefer's old coach. That will be a bit of a catfight, would love to be a fly on the wall when Davis Cup practices start in February.

I would like to see the new kids on the block developing a healthy rivalry.

And I really hope Almagro will be on that list too.

Yes, Haas and Kiefer barely talk to each other and it has been like this for some time now. But they're smart enough to realize that their differences aren't bigger than their country, unlike some others who shall remain unnamed.

I know strictly speaking these are not rivalries and I don't think the thread started actually meant rivalries but of the top of my head:

Safin-Nadal  (for the matchup of course)
Fed-Nadal (because, I want Fed to stop being nervous when he plays Nadal)
Gasquet-Anybody (because I like his game and haven't seen enough of it)
Santoro-Fed (I just loved their match at the US Open)
Fed-Anybody (goes without saying)

I don't think this is such a big problem for Kiwi as all the Kiwi Fan /Haas Haters see in it ;) Otherwise Federer would have to hate Safin for hiring his former trainer.

Federer-Safin
Gasquet-Safin on any surface really.

Nalbandian vs Hewitt (hard/carpet/grass)

(Lleyton kicked him in the ass in Wimbledon's final 02, won in 5 sets in AO 05 and Nalby destroyed him in 3 sets in Davis Cup, in Australia and on grass)

Nalbandian vs Safin (hard/carpet/grass)

Roddick vs Hewitt (hard)
