Thanks for sharing the great pictures - I wouldn't be at all surprised if Mario was crying because it must have been such an emotional moment for a young guy like him. I am so happy for the whole team - especially Ljubo :)

I am glad for Mario and Ivan. They earned it.. But Goran is really shameless.. As if he hasn't had enough fame and glory of his career, he stole probably the only thing that Tuksar could have had in his one. Goran has nothing to do with this victory.. He just decided to get another cheap bit of a limelight at expense of a little man who travelled with a team for every tie and really worked for this victory and whom he robbed of his part in this triumph..

I was a big fan of Goran's in the 90's - and hold his Wimbledon 2001 win as one of my greatest ever live sporting moments - but I tend to agree with you on this one. He has had so much glory in his career - poor Tuksar has really had none - this was probably his one big chance to be part of something special to tell his children and grandchildren about, and remember for the rest of his life - and Goran being in the team took that away from him  I often wondered why they couldn't let him stay in the Team with Goran travelling with them as some sort of Coach/advisor - that way Goran could have shared the triumph without taking away Tuksar's moment of glory.

As far as I know tuksar and Goran played against eachother for the fourth place in the Davis Cup team... I agree thatīs itīs a pitty for Tuksar, but what has he done for this DC??
Goran did a lot for Croatian tennis and I dare saying that things wouldnīt be as they are now if there wasnīt for Goran, so he deserved it...

Yes - I know what you mean - Goran has done so much for Croatian tennis - and I always loved to watch him play and admired his personality :) I just feel sad for Tuksar  I don't know anything about him personally, but I guess he must have been part of theTeam throughout the tournament this year (practice/sparring partner etc) and it seems a shame for him to miss out. Do you know if he actually travelled with the team to be part of the celebrations and enjoy the atmosphere?

goran is dare i say father of new croatian tennis
he has done massive things for tennis, for davis cup team, but most important he did wonders for our croatia during agession on our country
he was the ambasador
goran played with croatian flag on his forhead while croatia wasnīt even recognized as a country, and he did that desipte some death treats that were coming during australia tour in early 90-ies
remember that he was 21 years old at the time
he also won first olympic medal for croatia in barcelona
so goranīs spot on the team has not even a question mark here
yes, tuksar was part of the team, but goran build all of that
goran is the king of croatia in so many ways, which some people obviously canīt understand because they didnīt live trough it
so as all can have an opinion, i can tell them, you donīt know the half of it

Thanks for the explanation s.m. I have friends in Zagreb - and actually spent a year living there with them some years ago - so I do know something about how much national pride means to Croatian people, and how people were affected by the dreadful happenings of the early 90's - though obviously not in the same way as someone who was born and bred there. I still have a video tape of Goran with the flag in Barcelona Olympics and I remember some interviews he did at the time on our TV. I have nothing but respect for him and what he has achieved for his country :)

Sure.. And Australia should include Rod Laver in its team each time they make the finals, and Russia should always include Kafelnikov, as he's done just much for Russian tennis as Goran made for Croatia..

Suddenly I start to like the selection principle of Russian Fed Cup team.. To be selected to play in a final you should have been with a team for previous ties of the year..

Goran is even now better player than Tuksar, he would beat him anytime! Goran was prepared to play, he didn't come just to take the trophy, and support that he gives to other players is just huge, he is such a motivator for every player in team, and I'm sure Tuksar is not sad that he wasn't in the team!!!!!

Why then didn't he make himself available and didn't compete for the place in a team before USA tie, Romania tie, Russia tie? Why did he only come for the finals, earned by someone else?

and I'm sure Tuksar is not sad that he wasn't in the team!!!!!

Oh, sure, he is happy not to be a Davis Cup champion, something that his country most liekly won't achieve again in any foreseable future..

Agreed. Always loved Goran the player.. But he has never had any taste or good manners.. Remember his consistent bragging about "faggots"? But judging by Croatian fans from this boards that probably went with his origin..

I didn't know for his bragging about faggots, but it completes the picture very well! But the truth is, this is not realy the thread for these sort of things... I was actually rooting for Mario in the last rubber, because I like that player - so we should let the winners celebrate.
But it is Ivanisevic and similar croats that go on my nerves, exepcially because they get glorified for their's bad behavior and chauvinism. (it is a kind of craze these days for "bad guys", so suddenly everyone misses McEnore, and no one fails to admire Safins (or Murrays) outpurs of obvious bad manners and spoiled behaviour.

karlovic cracked a lovely smile in the post-match interview this year at Queen's Club when Roddick mentioned how heavy the croat's big serve was
