Las Vegas Field Looking Strong

There's no forum for it yet, so I'll post it here. If you didn't already know, the Scottsdale Open has moved to Las Vegas, Scottsdale usually got pretty weak draws because it's in the same weak as Acapulco and Dubai. Some early committments are:

Andy Roddick
Fernando Gonzalez
Tommy Robredo
Robby Ginepri
James Blake
Max Mirnyi
Xavier Malisse
Mark Phillipoussis
Vince Spadea
Mardy Fish
Andy Murray

With his child-fiancee, I'm sure the Poo will fit in just fine there.

The casinos must be helping with appearance money.

Gonzo usually only plays VDM in the South American clay tour, although last year he played BA as well. The other year he went to Europe after his home event.

Andy probably would still have a low ranking to enter Rotterdam, Dubai directly so this is a good choice, and good preparation for IW/Miami.

You're wrong Agassi is going to Dubai for the culture, architecture and not for the appearance money, it is not true that Dubai is the real cash cow. He wants to go skiing there.

I don't see anything wrong with Agassi's choice of events, if the money motivates him, well it does everyone else, look at Rusedski, he's going to Doha, although he's skipping the AO.

You know the sheikhs can pay his financial demands, this plus his love of the cultural and historical things, mean he is more than likely to turn up to Dubai.

This looks like the same crowd that is going to play San Jose, Memphis, and even a few will play Delray. The guys who come over for the American swing usually stay for all four of them (and I am SO angling to get Robredo in my car in San Jose, one of the long trips to the practice facility  )

If you three ladies are going, who wouldn't want to play in Vegas ;)

Andre and Dubai are so closely linked that they are going to build one of those artificial islands in the Gulf in the shape of his silhouette.

The only reason Rusedski isn't playing the AO is to be at home for the brith of his first child, so it wasn't really a case of choosing not to play it - he just puts his family first like Lleyton did.

IMO there are only five players worth seeing there. The rest of the field is just there because in their minds it is a winnable tournament and they get a nice chunk of change from TC, i.e. Roddick.

Las Vegas has tried to attract more families and has developed many family entertainments in addition to casinos. My friend's family had visited there about 2 years ago and had many fun times without hitting any casinos at all.

Andre is already committed to Dubai . . . for the small sum of $500,000. Plus, he has invested in some of the new properties going up over there.

I doubt any of the players (except Andy R.) will be receiving incentive money for playing. And, anyway, selling out a tennis tournament in Vegas is an iffy prospect, even if Andre were to play.

What I meant was that although he wants to be there for his child, the riches in Doha were an incentive to go play there before returning home for the birth.

Lovely discussion and all but I'm still stuck on this comment. What's up with that?

Back on topic I'm surprised AA isn't playing Vegas but when I read how much money he's getting for appearing at the other tourny that made everything perfectly clear. Not AA bashing, just stating the obvious.

I think Las Vegas is one of the most annoying cities in the U.S. I really don't care for the ambience there and the traffic on the strip is maddening. It's just not my kind of place at all but I understand that millions of others like it.

I hope the tournament is fan friendly. Probably the best thing about a little tournament is being able to see the players more than at a big tournament. I just can't see going to this tournament when IW is only a week away and very close -- only about a 3 hour drive.
