Best Backhand

Marat Safinator

Safin stands out more than anybody to me. I have studied his backhand and I've also listened to commentators like Barry Cowan and the legend,Peter Fleming. Both say Marat Safin has the best backhand in the game ever. I don't think Agassi can compare, it's a great shot in the world of tennis but doesn't stand out as much as Marat's.
Watch the 2004 Masters series Paris final where he demolished Stepanek who is a solid player. His backhand was trully amazing. :worship:

You're opinions?

Gaudio, Nalbandian.

 I think there was already a thread about this....
I don´t think Marat´s backhand is the best backhand in the game ever. ;) There are others, although Marat´s one is great of course...

My fave active players´backhand:
One-handed: Gaudio, Gasquet and Federer´s nice too
Two-handed backhand: Safin and Nalbandian, in my opinion.

you dont think marat's is the best  It is the best ever, the guy is a legend!!!! You wouldnt be saying nalbandians is one of your fav's if he never won the TMS cup! nothing compared to marat's

Gaudio's is more beautiful. Nalbandian's is more consistent. I wouldn't say Gasquet has a fluid backhand like Gaudio's, but in terms of power and accuracy it measures up.

Marat´s backhand is one of the best in these days tennis , but I like Nalbandian´s too. And no, I`ve been admiring David´s backhand for a long time It´s not like the guy was born in that MC final, you know.....

Gaudio and Gasquet´s backhand are pure beauty :worship:

I agree Mer ^

Marat Safinator- Don't slam me just because I don't agree with you. Marat has a nice backhand, I was just simply stating that I think there are better out there- even if Marat is in the top 3 or so.

I have watched professional tennis for years, I don't make opinions based on single matches.

Marat's backhand is way better than david nalbandians, david nalbandian is just a solid player and nothing more.

Why is it so hard to understand that some people admire Nalbandian's BH?

Here's another opinion on Nalby's BH:
Champion or not, Nalbandian is worth watching for his backhand alone. Typically, it’s the one-hander that wins style points—think of Federer, Gaston Gaudio, Justine Henin-Hardenne, Richard Gasquet, even Andrei Pavel. But Nalbandian’s two-hander is their match for artistry

Okay, giving points on "style" is perhaps not the same things as judging who's got the "best" (= most effective) BH but still, it's a beautiful BH so it's perhaps just a bit more than just 'solid'?

This one is a no-brainer!

Definitely, it's a toss up between Agassi, Gaudio, and Federer. Well at least considering the active players...

For the one handed backhand it has to be Gasquet and for the two handed it has to be Agassi the ability to step in at take the ball on the rise and create something special pure genius.

Reading some messages i think some people is confusing what is a a great bakchand with what is a stylish backhand , it has nothing to do with the best backhand  .

The best backand isn't the most beatiful :silly: ( a similar case happens when we talk about one-handed or two-handed backhand that some persons with half-wit minds think that the player with one-handed has a better bachkand than the two-handed, just for this simple reason :silly: )

I think Federer has the best backhand, it almost always reaches the lines and it is so beautiful to watch too. Just brilliant! :)

3 Best Backhands on tour:

1). Marat Safin - For Power and offense
2). David Nalbandian - Defensive and at times, an attacking shot.
3). Richard Gasquet - One word: Wow.

The Frenchman has a 5 star backhand, but the problem is his shot selection otherwise I would rate him #1, but his backhand at times can be his own worse enemy. He tries to get a bit too flashy with it.

Roger has the best EVERYTHING. Apart from personality.
There is no way that Roger has the best backhand. He has the ability to produce the best shots from both wings, he is a shotmaker, but there is more to it than that. Consistent is not a word I'd use to describe Roger's backhand, though as of late his forehand has been more wild than his backhand. So, really, at this point it's a toss up. He offers more variety, I suppose. Stability? Naaaah.
