A thread dedicated to Younès El Aynaoui only is needed instead of having one for both El Aynaoui and Hicham Arazi.
Here are the last messages regarding Younès:

Well after a first round loss in Metz against Mayer in 3 sets, Younès played the qualifying in TMS Madrid beating Nicolas Lappenti 7-6 6-4 and losing in the final round to Chela 6-4 3-6 7-6. Then he played the qualifying in Lyon beating Dupuis 6-2 6-3 and losing in the final round to Mahut 7-6 6-4. This week he got a WC in Aachen Challenger, beat Lipkus in first round 6-1 6-4 and lost in the last sixteen to Korolev
3-6 6-3 7-6. Korolev is playing the final tomorrow.
Unfortunately, El Aynaoui is not playing in Bratislava CH or Eckental CH next week.
Does somebody know a little bit about his scheddule for the end of 2005 ? Thank you so much for your help.

Latest news: thanks Nathii.

After Aachen, Younès El Aynaoui is in Barcelona in the Emilio Sanchez academy in order to practice.
He asked for a WC from the Luxembourg Challenger but he did not get an answer yet.

Go Younès

Younes obtained a WC in the Ukraine Challenger starting November 14th ( Ch 125.000 USD). He will play KARANUSIC, Roko (CRO) in the first round.
Then maybe Bracciali in the second and why not Hanescu in the quarters.
Seeds: Hanescu (1), Rusedski (2), Sanguinetti (3)...
Good luck to Younès. I think he can win some matches here even if the draw is far from being easy!!!

I met Younès El Aynaoui yesterday in Casablanca, and he told me he would play in the Atp event in Doha (first week of january 2006).
He's thinking about playing also the challenger in Doha the week before.
Physically, he's OK.
However, I did not have the opportunity to ask him about the Aus Open and if he's willing to play qualies there.
Good luck Younès for the 2006 season. You can make another sensational comeback.

Younes plays Q in Doha challenger, he's seeded 1.

I'm wondering why he plays Q in Doha Challenger. He's 228. Maybe he registered late to the tournament. But since he has a wild card for the Doha Atp event, why didn't he get a wild card for the challenger too ?
I think he wants to play more matches for training purposes.

pete25

He has a Bye in first round of Q and he beat yesterday in 2nd round Gregorc in straight sets. In the qualifying round, he will play againt Kloer today.
I think he'll qualify and win the whole tournament.

I never stoped believieng in Younès' abilities to come back. Remember he made it to Top 50 in 1993 then lost his tennis to become 200 or 250. Started a first comeback in the summer of 1995 and became 46 after his final loss in Doha in January 1996 against Korda. Then injured badly his ankle the following week in Jakarta in the final against Schalken. Then completely disappeared and became 600 in the world. Then the unbelievable story began: missed nearly from 1996 to June 1998 !!!! when he started a second huge comeback winning a lot of challengers on clay and becoming the great Younès we all know from 1999 to 2003 with a best entry ranking of 14 in 2000 and 2003 and a leading position in the race after his win in Doha in 2002!!! Then the tremendous performances of two 1/4 finals in grand slams in 2003 in the Aus Open and the Us Open and the fabulous and heroic match against Roddick. We all remember Younès's match point at 12-11 in the 5th and finally the win of Roddick 21-19!!!!! Then another serious injury after his 1/2 finals at TMS Madrid in October throwing him back to number 600 in the world !!!!! This time Younès is 33 and nearly 34 years old, did almost nothing during 2 years in 2004 and 2005 except a huge surprise in TMS Montreal beating F.Lopez in round 1 and a very promising 1/2 final in the challenger of Ukraine in November 2005 beating Hanescu in straight sets in the 1/4. Well I sincerely think this is another formidable comeback starting at the start of 2006. Younes is 228 and just played a great match to beat Sebastien Grosjean in round 1 in Doha. He's 34 and still gives it all. Congratulations Younès. Nobody came back 3 times except maybe Agassi (I'm not sure: I think he came back only 2 times!!!). I hope Younès will have a great year with decent performances. Remember 48 at the end of 1993 then 250 then 46 in the start of 1996 then 600 then 14 in 2000 and 2003, then 600 in 2005 and now 228. I am delighted Younès.

This is really unfair to affect such a wonderful player's dignity and make it public. Younes El Aynaoui has always been a great example to follow inside or outside the court. All people that met him will be more than happy to tell what a true gentleman he is: always smiling, respecting everybody, and being so patient with fans and the press.
That's why he is so respected. I mean everubody loves him.
Just as an example, Younes decided to support financially an orphanage in Morocco by providing all what is needed for young kids there to play tennis. He also pays for trainers that come 2 or 3 times each week to the orphanage to train those kids.
We all know that Younes El Aynaoui has been many times elected a member of the Board of Pro Tennis player thans to his professionalism. He was elected the first ambassador of of Tennis in 2003 while Agassi was elected second. This simply shows how this guy puts all efforts to promote tennis worldwide. He has given a lot to this sport.
Moreover, It is true that marijuana is not supposed to be taken by players for ethical matters, but I think everybody knows that it has never been a doping substance that enhances performance. In addition, it was just an exhibition, not a tournament linked to the international tennis federation.
With all my due respects to the Italian tennis federation, making public such a minor thing and affecting Younes' dignity while this person is so respected worldwide just makes me sick.
I mean this guy is almost 35 years of age, has had terrible injury problems; and for the 3rd time in 13 years, he is making probably another sensational comeback without any doping. I repeat marijuana does not enhance the performance of a tennis player (it alters the performance actually !!!).
I read today that Younes El Aynaoui risks a 3 months ban for this.
Please I'm begging all tennis fans worldwide to join forces for showing the maximum support for this great person in order to avoid the 3 month ban. Younes simply does not deserve this.
Please use whatever you can to spread the message. We, as tennis fans, should have the last word in this matter.
I'm begging you to try to understand my feelings and thoughts.
Please don't let Younes down

Please continue to support Younes El Aynaoui, he really needs our help.
Please reply massively to show your support.
I am going to prepare a petition online tonight.

Please don't let Younes down.
I'll let you know later today about the petition and how you can access to it.

In an article in the Moroccan newspaper "Le Matin du Sahara et du Maghreb", it is written than Younes El Aynaoui denies having consumed or used "cannabis" in his life. Translating in english what Younes said is the following: "I have never consumed or used this substance. The Italian Federation of sporting medicine has never contacted me to let me know any information related to me. Moreover, the President of the Antidoping commission of the Italian Tennis Federation, contacted today, told me he wasn't aware of the facts. The fact that the Italian federation of sporting medicine does not respect rules and procedures at the ATP and national federations level reveals a desire to affect negatively for unknown reasons. Antidoping institutions must respect rules and procedures in order to reach decisions, guarantee the decisions' credibility, and protect sport players from possible errors.
Therefore, it is clear that the Italian federation of sporting medicine action is suspicious. Because of what I said earlier, I am ready to defend my interests according to the current legislation against responsibles of this act.

I have just written a petition in www.petitiononline.com to support Younes El Aynaoui. The petition title is the following: Let El Aynaoui Play.
Please spread the word and sign the petition, it can really help.
Thank you so much for your understanding.
Don't let Younes down.

Here is what I have written:

It is true that doping in sports has become a serious issue in that sportsmen use prohibited substances to enhance their performance, and therefore achieve results they could not reach without consuming these substances. Moreover, these sportsmen prevent true champions from reaching their dreams.

As world tennis fans, we were shocked by the announcement of the Italian Federation of Sports medecine revealing that Younes El Aynaoui, the Moroccan Tennis star, tested positive for Tetra-Hydro Cannabinol (THC) at the Italian Championships on December 3rd 2005. We strongly condemn the fact that this Federation never contacted the player to inform him about the issue before making the announcement public, and we were surprised to learn that the President of the Antidoping commission of the Italian Tennis Federation was not even aware of the fact.

We have to wait first for the confirmation of the test. Then, we need to explain that although prohibited, THC has never been a substance that enhances performance. It alters it actually. Furthermore, according to ITF, a player that consumes this substance risks a sanction going from a warning to a maximum suspension of three months.

As a result, knowing that Younes El Aynaoui has always been a great example in or outside a tennis court, showing profound respect to everybody, being patient with fans and the press, supporting financially a Moroccan orphanage, promoting considerably tennis worlwide, having been elected several times in the Board of Pro tennis players and particularly having been elected the first ambassador of world tennis in 2003, this true gentleman at the end of his career, does not deserve to be suspended.

In conclusion, we tennis fans demand the supreme authorities in charge of this case to let Younes El Aynaoui show his talent in a tennis court, and give him only a warning if the confirmation test is positive.

It's so bad he didn't play after his good run in Doha this year.

Younes didn't receive a wild card in Dubai but managed to play qualies in the last minute after Schuettler was moved to MD. Younes beat Victor Bruthans 6-2 6-2 in Q R1 and Giorgio Galimberti in the qualifying round 6-3 6-1.
I'm very happy that Younes made it to MD. He plays Wesley Moodie in R1 before a possible clash with Nadal in the last 16.
Well done Younès !
He also plays doubles MD with Marat Safin. The team has received a wild card.
But I still don't understand why Younès didn't receive a wild card for MD Singles.

pete25
03-02-2006, 08:12 PM
Great win for Younes in MD R1 against Moodie 6-4 6-4 but then he had to withdraw from the tournament for personal reasons. He's so unlucky. He was going to meet Nadal in Last 16. Does someone know what actually happened ? I hope everything is OK cause Younes is a great competitor.
He's now 2-1 in 2006 with a win against Grosjean in Doha and one against Moodie in Dubai. Please respond to me. Thanks a lot.

pete25

Younes El Aynaoui participated this week in the St Brieuc challenger on clay. He got a wild card et was seeded 8. He defeated Mirnegg in R1 6-2 6-4 and Andreas Beck 6-2 3-6 6-3 before losing the quarters to Peter Wessels 7-6 6-3.
Good week Younes! I saw he's on the alternates list of the Monte Carlo qualifying.
He may also play in the ATP of Valencia in Spain.
Then probably in Casablanca. Come on Younes !

pete25
04-22-2006, 07:04 PM
I've been to the hotel Hyatt in Casablanca for the sign in and draws.
At around 5 pm, after Younes lost to Ouahab in the Rabat Futures SF 6/4 6/4, he finaly received the WC for Casablanca Main Draw. But, knowing his pride and human qualities, he simply offered his WC to Mounir El Aarej in response to the Moroccan Federation lack of professionnalism. In fact, on wednesday, they "decided" to give the last WC to someone else, and changed their mind only friday during El Aynaoui- Ouahab match. I think this a great act from Younes, he doesn't their WC in these conditions, he wants to play qualies and he has a pretty easy qualies draw. Plus, he did not receive a WC in qualies and he's seeded number 3. The 3 WC went to: Mehdi Tahiri (Moroccan champion)- Lamine OUAHAB (African Cup champion 2005) and Mounir EL AAREJ ( offered by El Aynaoui ).
I'm sure Younes is going to do a lot of damage in the MD also. I can't wait

pete25
04-22-2006, 07:06 PM
Unfortunately for all his fans, Younes withdrew from the qualies. He was supposed to play his second round match this afternoon also. It has been said he suffers from a pain in his elbow, and he had a protection stuff on it but took it away before starting his first round. Well, I saw him playing the first round, he was just extremely convincing!!! I'm so sad ! The Moroccan Federation destroyed everything during this week, not giving him the WC for MD early and changing their mind in the last minute. No comment! This could have been a great week for Younes. Too bad for his fans, and too bad for Morocco !

pete25

no he lost 6-4 6-4 to Balleret. He has recovered from his wrist injury and is on the qualifying list of the US Open.

pete25
09-10-2006, 12:34 PM
Younès lost in the US Open Qualies in R1 against Peter Luczak 6-3 7-5. I followed the live score, it was weird since he was leading 5-3 in the second set and winning his service games easily. Then, he only managed to win one point in the four remaining games. I don't know what happens.

Younès is playing the Orleans Challenger starting september 11th, he will play a qualifier in MD R1 with a possible meeting with Olivier Rochus (seeded 1) in the quarters.
Arazi is back, he received a WC in Orleans and playing Bloomfield in MD R1.
Good luck to Younès. :)

pete25
09-11-2006, 11:37 PM
Good win for Younes in R1 over Juska: 6-2 6-4.
He'll play Saulnier who beat Faurel 7-6 6-7 6-1.
El Aynaoui and Arazi won their doubles match.
Good luck Younes! :)

pete25
09-17-2006, 08:51 PM
El Aynaoui succeeded in taking the defending champion and local hero Cyril Saulnier (5th seed) out after a great battle in 3 sets: 3-6 6-3 7-6(1).
Arazi pulled out from his 2nd round doubles match with Younes.
In the quarter final, El Aynaoui won the first set against Olivier Rochus (seeded 1) 7-6 but couldn't keep the same level and lost the other 2 sets: 6-4 and 6-3.
Nevertheless, it's a very good week for him.
He's playing next week in a challenger in Spain on clay and will meet Martin Verkerk in MD R1. Good luck Younes.

pete25
09-24-2006, 12:56 AM
Terragana challenger:
El Aynaoui def. Verkerk: 7/5 6/3.
2nd: El Aynaoui def. Snobel: 6/2 7/6.
1/4: El Aynaoui def. Ouahab (7): 6/7 6/2 6/2.
1/2: El Aynaoui def. Portas (4): 6/3 6/2.
Now take the title tomorrow against Lorenzi. Come ON.

pete25
09-24-2006, 06:34 PM
El Aynaoui lost in the final of this challenger to Lorenzi in the final in straight sets: 6/4 7/6. But very good week with impressive wins against Verkerk, Snobel, Ouahab and Portas. Good luck Younes for the Grenoble chalenger next week: 1st round against Ascione and maybe 2nd against Korolev.

pete25
09-29-2006, 12:49 AM
El Aynaoui lost to Ascione in R1 7/6 6/4 in the Grenoble challenger.
Not a bad result. He's on the alternates list in Mons next week but I think he can play the qualies in Metz, it should be better for him.
Good luck to him. He's 163rd this week and I hope he will be back in Top 100 soon.

pete25
10-08-2006, 12:31 AM
Younes is playing the Barcelona challenger next week. He will have the chance to win the title. It's great to see Younes playing on a regular basis these last weeks. He reached the quarters in Orleans, the final in Torragana and lost in R1 in Grenoble.
He's 162nd this week and will have the opportunity to get closer to Top 100 and I sincerely think he can do it again this year.
Good Luck Younes :)

pete25
10-09-2006, 11:28 PM
Younes destroyed an unknown wild card italian player Paolo Beninca 6-1 6-1 in the Barcelona challenger R1. He will probably face Federico Luzzi in the 2nd round. It should be a quite easy match for him.
Good luck Younes.

pete25
10-12-2006, 01:01 AM
Not really cause he lost to Luzzi in the 2nd round 7/6 (9) 7/6 (5).
It should have been a nice match though.
Keep working hard Younes: this will pay sooner or later.
I hope he will get a WC for the qualies in AMS Madrid.

My coach used to train with both Hicham and El Aynaoui and they're good friends. In case anyone's wondering what's happened to Aarazi, he's doing real estate development in Morocco and has dropped out of tennis. :wavey:

In the week of December 4th, Younes El Aynaoui was invited in an exhibition masters event in Copa Cabbana in Brazil (Final of Copa Petrobas) and surprised everybody again by dismissing all his three round robin opponents: Guga 6/3 6/2, Saretta 6/1 6/4 and Diego Hartfield 7/6 6/3 before losing in the final against Guillermo Canas 6/7 6/4 10/5 (MTB). that was a very good performance from Younes who has obtained a wild card in the Qatar Open in Doha, starting January 1st 2007. First round opponent: Thomas Johansson and maybe Ljubicic in the 2nd !! Good luck to you Younes.

Great performance from Younes: 7/6 7/6 win in Doha R1 against Thomas Johansson. Tomorrow the toughest possibe match against Ljubo !!
Good luck to Younes: he can do it cause he's a true champ !

No news from Younes after Doha ??

pete25
01-09-2007, 07:41 PM
He said after his first round win in Doha that he asked for a WC for qualies.
It's too bad, he could have played with no problem if he registered early.
A Sports moroccan website also said that he may obtain the wild card for the main draw, but honestly I think it's too tough to get one.
I hope the organisers will take into account the fact that Younes played great tennis last week in his straight sets victory over Thomas Johansson and offered a good resistence against Ljubicic in the last 16.
And they will certainly remember one of the greatest matches in tennis history: the quarter final of AO 2003 when Roddick beat El Aynaoui 21-19 in the fifth set !!!
Please at least a WC for qualies !!! Please!

At 35, Younes El Aynaoui is far from retiring from pro tennis. His determination and motivation made him work and train hard for 5 weeks in Barcelona after his good performance in Doha.
He didn't manage to obtain a WC in Dubai but succeeded in qualifying to the main draw after good wins against Marco Chiudinelli 6/1 6/4 and George Bastl 6/4 6/4. The main draw didn't allow Younes to win more matches because he simply faced the world's n° 4 Nikolay Davydenko in R1.
However, Younes demonstrated great tennis and fighting spirit and was very close to create a major upset. After 2h55m Davydenko finally prevailed in three extremely tough sets: 6/7 7/5 7/5.
Well done Younes! Keep working hard, you deserve to be at least in the Top 50.
Starting on march 5th, Younes is playing the Morocco F1 Future in Oujda where he's the top seed.
Then, he is supposed to participate in the Bogota Challenger and come back to Morocco to play two challengers and the ATP event in Casablanca.
Good luck Younes! :boune: :bigclap: :yeah:

pete25
03-10-2007, 07:34 PM
Well, as predicted, Younes El Aynaoui destroyed everybody in the Morocco F1 in OUJDA. Here are his scores:
R1: El Aynaoui def. Mezzour: 6-2 6-2
R2: El Aynaoui def. Maamoun: 6-3 6-4
1/4: El Aynaoui def. Decoud: 6-1 6-2
1/2: El Aynaoui def. Gonzalez Maximo: 6-3 6-4
F: El Aynaoui def. Crivoi: 6-0 6-3.
Very impressive :worship: :worship:
Younes opted not to play in Bogota next week but prefers to prepare for 3 weeks for the Casablanca challenger (75000$), Marrakech (100000$) and the Casablanca ATP Event.
No doubt he's going to win a lot of points !!

Younes played the Barletta challenger this week, winning his 1st round match against an unknown italian player 7-6 6-4 before losing surprisingly in the 2nd against Ventura 6-4 6-4. But that's just part of the preparation, Younes is in the Napoli Challenger next week ($100.000).
Good luck Younes! I hope he wins this challenger to improve considerably his rankings.

Younes continues his good run in Napoli: he defeated Pablo Cuevas in the Napoli CH semi final 7-5 7-5 and will meet tough italian Potito Starace tomorrow in the final. Go Younes. Win this event. It will make you enter the Top 150. Come ON !

pete25

Unfortunately, Younes lost the Napoli final against Starace 7-5 6-2.
Good week for Younes, but I expected a better result.

Go Younes !

Another good week end for Younes with Morocco in Davis Cup.
Morocco won 4-1 losing yet again the doubles match.
But Younes won both his singles matches in fashion without losing a single set. On friday, he destroyed Norbis (DEN): 6-0 6-3 6-4 and today he gave the winning point to Morocco with a 6-3 7-5 6-4 win against Nielsen.
A nice preparation for next week's event: The Casablanca Challenger, part of Morocco Tennis Tour which continues the following week in Marrakech before the final event in Casablanca: The Grand Prix Hassan II ATP EVENT.
Go Younes !

pete25

If he wins Casablanca, he will be around n° 80 in the Atp rankings.
But Casablanca is very tough with Hrbaty, Acasuso, PH Mathieu, Grosjean, Clement, Simon and so on. But he has the ability to create upsets there.
The list for Roland Garros is already set, so I don't think they're going to take into consideration his ranking of next monday (he will be 135th).
In the worst scenario, he'll play qualies in Roland Garros.

great career Younes. We enjoyed wonderful moments thanks to you.
Bad luck against Stakhovsky: 6-4 4-6 6-4.
Younes has still a very repectable level but I think it's time he ends his career.
So many great memories: Becker- El Aynaoui (barcelona olympics 1992)- gold medal in mediterranean games 1993- 4 grand slam quarter finals ( Aus Open 2000-2003 and Us Open 2002-2003), 2 last 16 in the French (1995-2000), 1/2 final in AMS Madrid in 2003- 1/4 in AMS Miami 2003- 5 ATP titles (Amsterdam 1999- Bucarest 2001- Doha 2002- Casablanca 2002- Munich 2002), 14 challenger titles and 7 in one year (1998), great wins in Davis Cup world group against Spain in 2002 (beats Corretja and Ferrero on clay in Spain !), and of course the magical marathon match against Roddick in Aus Open 2003: 21-19 in the fifth for Andy! and so many more memories such as finals in Casablanca 1994- Amsterdam 1996- Jakarta 1996- Doha 1996- Montevideo 1998- Bogota 2000- Lyon 2001- Dubai 2002- Casablanca 2003 and so on...

It is a bit strange, obviously judging from the fact that he won the Spanish futures tournament without dropping a set, he is in good shape even at his age, you would think he could get more satisfaction from winning a few matches in a Moroccan challenger with a WC, and it would be easier on his body. But I don't know the details of why he did the same last year (although he did play and win Marrakech CH last year).

Younes lost a set in his three first matches in main draw.
Now he will play for Morocco at Davis Cup :) so maybe he doesn't have troubles with the national association and he just thought it would be better/more appropriate returning in a futures event

Younes is here in Ireland this weekend and he is kicking ass!!
Unfortunately I couldn't get tickets to the tie but this weekend I've started learning about the career of El Aynaoui (unfortunately I only really got into tennis properly in 2005).

Now that I know a bit about his tennis can anyone tell me about his personality, you know what sort of guy is Younes (funny? serious? etc).

I also heard that Younes is short of cash, but this can't be true as he has made nearly $4million from tennis!

I've been watching videos on youtube - Younes is in danger of becoming one of my favourite players here

Yeah I'm guessing that is not true. I can't remember where exactly I read it, but the writer suggested that Younes' most recent comeback was motivated by a need for cash..... but Younes had made $14million from tennis in his career

Younes El Aynaoui is coming back again with a great level of play. After going through the qualies in a Futures in Spain, he won the whole tournament a month ago. Then, a week ago, he simply won the Chiasso Challenger, beating Greul in the quarters, Devilder in the semis and Alberto Martin in the final.
This week end, he's playing the qualies of the ATP event of Munich. He won his first two matches in straight sets and is playing Silva in the qualifying round. I think he can win some matches in the final draw.
At nearly 37, Younes is still here! just amazing !
