A suggestion for Sky

Does anybody else here think Sky should launch a tennis channel? They have golf, poker, horse racing, dog racing and fishing channels so why not?

I e-mailed Sky with this suggestion and here was there response:
Thanks for your email about a dedicated Tennis channel.

I appreciate your comments in relation to this as there is so much Tennis to cover throughout the course of the season. Unfortunately, there is no information with regard to such a service becoming available on the Sky digital platform.

However, your interest has been noted and passed on to the relevant department for their information.

We appreciate feedback and would like to thank you for contacting us with your thoughts.

Kind regards
Oh well

maybe they'll think about it after Murray or Henman winning a Grand Slam title. :)

It should be for all the ATP tournaments that are not covered by Sky Sports and Eurosport. I'm sure plenty of people would want to see their favs play instead of watching Live Scores on the internet.

I think it's a brilliant idea Jimnik - hope they listen to your suggestions.

Everybody should e-mail them and tell them what they think. They're more likely to listen if there are more voices.

Tell them about all the International Series tournaments that are not covered by Sky Sports and Eurosport: Adelaide, Sydney, Marseille, Barcelona, Halle, Bastad, Stuttgart, Kitzbuhel, Beijing, Tokyo, Vienna, Basel etc. Those are just some of the tournaments that could be covered by a Tennis Channel. All of them are important and have strong fields every year but there are also dozens more.

Tell them to at least look into these tournaments because I'm sure ALL of them would happily sell their TV rights FOR FREE. Anyway, even if Sky needed to make money, would you be willing to pay a subscription fee? I know I would. If you would too, please tell them.

I think the sky channels are flooded with football, when I was a young boy it was great because I liked watching football. Now I am older, I like quite a few other sports and I have got bored of watching football, so I would like to see a tennis channel too! I also think a boxing channel would be great, where you pay your subscription and then the pay per view bouts are free! I wanted to watch the hatton fight last night, but they arent even showing a free replay  Thank god for people uploading the fights, a few hours after to download.

I think we need to keep on and on at Sky until they get fed up of us and give in!! I noticed today that they have a Wine channel and a Teacher's channel. I mean they can waste space on that which I bet no one ever watches, so the least they cam do is give us our tennis channel that will actually be watched.

Sky appear to prefer to have several diverse sports channels rather than creating specialised channels for each sport.

I just wish Sky would sell the sports channels on their own, instead of bundled with a lot of stuff I would never watch and don't want to pay for. I wouldn't mind paying the Sky Subscription for sport alone, even though tennis is all I would watch - and possibly cricket, isn't that going to Sky? Then at least I would see a bit more tennis than the measly amount the BBC show.

But now, a tennis channel all on its own - provided it was available without the rest of the clutter . . . (why isn't there a smilie for saying please? )

As someone who pays my monthly Sky subscription purely for the tennis - I agree with you wholeheartedly. I hardly watch TV at all and most of the other channels on Sky I've never even turned on once - so I would definately like the idea of a tennis only channel that would be cheaper than the subscription fee I pay at the moment.

Having a Brit tennis hero would definatelly help. I do hope Murray lives up to the hype and become a top 10 player soon. I also would like to see more tennis on telly.

Is "Murray Mount" official? Is it how Henman Hill will be called now?

Nice to know I'm not the only one getting a subscription of a whole service package for tennis. I'm sure the BBC is very popular during Wimbledon and there should be a lot of tennis fans in Britain who miss not having much tennis coverage in general tv during the rest of the year.

I think it should be possible to get a Tennis Channel without an extra subscription fee - maybe as part of the Sky Sports package. But if there was a fee, I estimate it wouldn't be more than £3 or £4 per month.

As I've said, Sky should be able to get the TV rights and Live pictures, from these tournaments, for free from the host broadcaster.

It's a great idea, but it won't happen because the market simply isn't there

How much would it cost for them to provide a channel to offer the Tennis Channel from the US for tennis coverage which is not shown by Sky.

There doesn't need to be a huge market for it because, as I've said, the cost of the channel would be very low. Sky would only have to broadcast the existing images used by the host broadcasters of these tournaments.

I'm sure there are thousands of tennis fans out there who would love a channel like this. And I'm equally sure that it would get higher viewing figures than many of the existing random Sky channels out there.

I totally agree, how great would that be! Not that i have sky full package at the moment but it would still be brilliant! :)
