After seeing his clothes from DC tie in September and without any sponsors on clothes, this doesn't come as a surprise as he follows trends in the tennis players having their own clothes line.

Kuerten's Clothes Line

By Richard Pagliaro
11/24/2005

Some players shed sweat on the court, but Gustavo Kuerten has always exuded his own sense of style. You may never possess Kuerten's brilliant backhand, but you will be able to wear his clothes on court.

The man who transformed the red clay of Roland Garros into a canvas where he traced a huge heart after collecting his third French Open championship in 2001 is putting his heart, spirit and artistic talent into a new venture. The three-time Roland Garros champion will launch his own fashion label, aptly titled "Guga Kuerten" on November 30th in his native Florianopolis, Brazil.

The launch party for Kuerten's fashion line will feature a press conference, music and a festive party with Kuerten, his family and all of his tennis friends expected to attend.

The 29-year-old Kuerten's clothing line includes the tennis clothes he will wear on court, beach wear, surf wear, and polo shirts. A smaller line of social clothes, bearing the label "Mr. Kuerten" will also be unveiled at the launch part. The charismatic Kuerten supplied many of the ideas for the cut, color and fit of the clothes, which are primarily for men. The women's line consists solely of of beachwear at the moment. Guga, who previously wore Diadora and Olympikus clothes on court, will wear his own brand now.

Currently ranked No. 293, Kuerten was limited to just 16 matches in 2005 while he continued efforts to strengthen his hip, which has been surgically repaired twice in the past three years. He posted a 6-10 record and did not win register consecutive victories all season. The former No. 1 has not played a tournament match since losing to Tommy Robredo in the second round of the U.S. Open, but has reportedly been "practicing hard" during the past three weeks. Kuerten resumed practice in mid October and has split his training time between Florianopolis and Buenos Aires, which is where his coach, Hernan Gumy, is based.

"This week, Guga is in Florianopolis practicing and Ricardo Mello joined him for practice," Diana Gabanyi, Kuerten's communications director and surrogate sister told Tennis Week today. "He has been doing a lot of work in practice and the hip is feeling much better and stronger. He will keep practicing for the next few weeks and play a couple of exhibitions in December."

Kuerten is scheduled to play an exhibition in Rio in early December followed by an exhibition in Buenos Aires featuring several top Argentines, including David Nalbandian and Gaston Gaudio, December 15-18th.

At this point, Kuerten is not planning to play the Australian Open. He plans to launch his 2006 campaign on clay on January 30th in Viña del Mar, followed by Brazil's Davis Cup tie vs. Peru (February 6th), before playing clay-court tournaments in Buenos Aires (February 13th), Costa do Sauipe (February 20th) and Acapulco (February 27th).

yeah what has gone to their heads in Aukland?!!!
when a RG champ & no1 & most of all a grea sportsman & ambassador to the games asks for a wildcard YOu oblige
they can take out a qualifer place if all their wildcards are distributed. MArk who Phili
he should retire not because he is playing badly but because he donest have his heart or head together to play professionaly & most of all seriously.
Looking forward to see Guga's line of cloth
wish he made a female line too

Its great to see Guga developing new interests. It does seem unlikely that his body will ever allow him to play a full season of top level tennis again.

I have my own clothesline too. But I can only use it when it's not raining, as it's in the backyard.
