How many tournaments should a top 10 ATP player a year?

Just wondering.....there are people in top 10 who play over 30 tournaments a year and there are some who play less than 20 a year. The trend is towards that the more sponsors a player has, the less he "wants" to play. It is not necessarily the higher the ranking, the less a player plays. So why are all of these top players complaining about needing to play all Master events while they are already skipping them like crazy. So what do you think should be a reasonable number of tournaments a top 10 player or a plalyer who wants to become top 10 should play? I say around 20 tournaments where they score at least one win.

 this time a new thread ;)

to answer the question 30 is a lot of tournaments, i'd say 20 is probably a good number, and for someone trying to break into the top 10 i could understand playing a few more.

there're 52 weeks in a year... usually a tournament last about a week, unless it's GS or TMS, where it takes a little longer...

take away the last one and a half month at the end of year (6 weeks), so there's about 46 weeks in a tennis season. One week rest between each tourney should be sufficient for Top players with their level of fitness, presuming that they will usually reach up to at least Quarter-finals...

I'd say around 20-23 a year...

at least 14
4 slams
9 TMS
1 TMC

assuming you win most of these in a year or go deep in everyone of them like fed.

if not, then around 20 would be good. +6 other events like halle/queens, dubai, qatar/adelaide, basel/st. petersburg, 1 or 2 us open series events, and maybe rotterdam

Max. 23. They should get good results in 3 out of 5 optionals and coupled with good results in AMS and GS then that is enough. And Davis Cup duty too.
