Back in the US

Since Friday, 22th of August, I am back at home in Sarasota. For almost three weeks I was in Munich, Germany and Graz, Austria to visit my family. I gave a couple of interviews for german newspapers, too. It´s unbelievable, how nice the summer in Europe has been this year. Even though, I spent a lot of hours in the car to get to the hospital where I continued my rehab program, I had a great time going out with friends and my sisters Sabine and Karin.
My shoulder is getting better. It hasn´t been that felxible for a long time. Still I have to build up my muscles very carefully. It needs time and patience, unfortunately.

Comeback in 2004

There were different news about my comeback in 2003, in Germany as well as in other countries. Right now, it looks like, I will be back on tour in January 2004. On one hand it´s because of my shoulder, on the other hand it has to do with my protective rangking. The protective rangking helps players, who are not able to play on tour for a minimum of 6 months.

Protective Rangking

The protective rangking gives you the chance to sign in at tournaments with your old ranking for 9 months. The ranking you had before your injury. In my case it would be the ninth spot. During the 9 months you are allowed to sign in with your old ranking at 8 tournaments. The advantage of this regulation is, that you don´t need wildcards to get into the maindraw of bigger events. Right now I´m no. 125 in the entry system. To get the old rangking back as soon as possible, it is important for me to use the protective rangking.

Point of time of my comeback

If I would play one or two tournaments in Oktober 2003 the protective ranking, the 9 months, would start. And because there are no tournaments in November and December on the ATP Tour I would lose two months. Two months without any tournament. Would that be worth it?

I know, it´s kind of difficult, but very important for my tournament schedule. You should know, that it is my dream to play on tour as soon as possible. To watch the US Open on tv in Sarasota is really strange.

Keep enjoying my website!
Take care,
Tommy

I can't wait untill januari

Why does Haas still need a protected ranking to enter tourneys?
He's 66 in the entry ranking and 36th on this years's race...

Neely
07-28-2004, 04:34 PM
the entry list for direct acceptances is based on 42 days prior to the tournament, that's why Tommy's ranking is still not enough (for most tournaments)

Fee
07-28-2004, 06:38 PM
So 8 tournaments within 9 months time. Tommy returned in February at San Jose, but I think he used a wildcard. In fact, I think he used a WC to get into a whole bunch of tournaments and just used his protected ranking for the two Slams and two Masters, so I think he still has 4 chances to use his protected ranking. He doesn't need it for the US Open, and he got a Wildcard for Cincy, so maybe he won't need to use it for any more tournaments if he keeps moving up the way he has been (and the Champions Race is not used to determine tournament entries, it's just used to figure out who goes to Houston at the end of the year and as a measure of how well you've been playing since January).

I hope he and the whole team is playing well. It would be so important for Germany to get back into the World Group with this great team they have. But also Slovakia has lots of good players with Hrbaty, Beck and Kucera. It's really bad that one team with all these good players will be denied to make the World Group.
A bad draw for both teams.

Haas recovers to pull Germany level with Slovaks
Fri 24 September, 2004 15:09

BRATISLAVA, Sept 24 (Reuters) - Dominik Hrbaty gave Slovakia an early lead before Tommy Haas pulled Germany level at 1-1 after the opening singles in their Davis Cup World Group playoff tie on Friday.

Hrbaty, ranked 18th in the world, dominated his match against Florian Mayer to claim a 6-3 6-1 6-3 victory.

German number one Haas had a more difficult time as he dropped the first set in a tiebreak before roaring back to finish off Karol Beck 6-7 (2-7) 6-1 6-1 6-1.

"Dominik was in great form in the opener, he really didn't give his opponent a chance," said Slovakian captain Miroslav Mecir.

"Looking at the teams, it could have been expected that we would be tied 1-1. But after the first set of the second match, it looked promising. Then Haas showed why he is such a quality player."

Beck and Hrbaty will team up to face Haas, a former top 10 player, and Alexander Waske in the doubles on Saturday before playing the reverse singles on Sunday.

Sorry, guys, I don't know which thread this should be in. The News or Vienna thread?

Haas Stopped at ATP Vienna, Canas, Lopez in Final

Tommy Haas, unseeded this week at Vienna, saw his opportunity for a third title on the year pass Saturday when he was eliminated in the semifinals by No. 6 seed Guillermo Canas 6-4, 6-3.

Haas, in his first full year of play after a difficult comeback from shoulder surgery, has won two titles in 2004, on clay at Houston (d. Roddick) and on the hardcourts at Los Angeles (d. Agassi, Kiefer).

"Today my return was excellent," said Canas, who is 22-2 since July on clay, outdoor hardcourt, and indoors. "That was a very important part of my game today because Tommy has a very good serve. I started to return well from the first game and that gave me a lot of confidence."

Canas, who will be seeking his fourth title of the year after dirt championships at Stuttgart (d. Gaudio) and Umag (d. Volandri), and a hardcourt win at Shanghai (d. Burgsmuller), will face No. 8 seed Feliciano "F-Lo" Lopez who beat the unseeded Italian Davide Sanguinetti 6-3, 6-3.

The Spaniard F-Lo is seeking his first win of the year, in March losing in three sets to Roger Federer on hardcourts in Dubai.

"They always ask you if you are ready for your first ATP title and I think I am," F-Lo said. "It will be difficult tomorrow, and even more because we play best of five sets. Willy (Canas) is playing very good and I have to keep up my level all the time tomorrow."

F-Lo won their only previous meeting at Wimbledon in 2002, 10-8 in the fifth set.

The doubles final will be Argentines (3) Etlis/Rodriguez vs. unseeded Czechs Damm/Suk.

VIENNA: Guillermo Canas continued his surge back towards the world’s top 20 when he reached the final of the BA-CA Trophy with a straight sets win over the former champion Tommy Haas.

The sixth-seeded Argentine beat the former world number two from Germany 6-4, 6-3 to score his 22nd win in 24 matches, a sequence which has included three of his six career titles. Canas, who last year was sidelined for eight months after a hand operation, now looks a good bet for a fourth title here on one of his favourite courts, on which he has only lost once in eight matches. He will now play the winner of the second semi-final between veteran Italian Davide Sanguinetti and Spain’s Feliciano Lopez. Canas’ last defeat here was against Haas, in the 2001 final, and revenge looked to be his driving force from the moment he broke serve in the third game.

He held that advantage throughout the first set and was only troubled when he slipped to love-30 while closing out the set. Haas, who took risks with his ground strokes and in coming to the net, may still have been suffering from discomfort in his back which caused him to have treatment on court during his three-set quarter-final victory over Robbie Ginepri.

But there was no denying the increasing effectiveness of the hard-working Canas’ game, which often took an age between points but once again got better and better as a match went on, coming from 40-15 down to break Haas again for 4-3 in the second set. By then Haas’s error ratio had crept up against Canas’ solid battling from the back of the court, and he dropped serve again disappointingly to concede defeat. It followed Canas’ first ever win the day before against his top-seeded compatriot, David Nalbandian. afp

On Sunday, Carlos Moya, the #4 seed, withdrew (shoulder injury). Tommy Haas was named the #18 seed & took Moya's place in the draw; a qualifier or lucky loser will replace Haas.

Haas now has a bye in the first round & will face either Paul-Henri Mathieu or a qualifier in the second round.

scoring summary and comments:

1. Satz Den vergibt Melzer selbst - seine Vorhand fliegt weit ins Aus! Einstand.
1. Satz 4 Punkte in Folge bringen Haas die 4:2 Führung.

If you visit the ATP website, you'll find a quiz about who could challenge Roger Federer in 2005. Many say Lleyton Hewitt or Marat Safin... take your pick! I think Tommy could. He's surely getting back into the top 10, and even the top 5. If he faces Federer and plays the way we know he can play... Roger's luck may soon come to an end! COME ON, TOMMY!!!

I hope he doesn't re-injury again and with his play a lot of is possible. He wasn't #2 of the world because he was crap, but because he has beaten lots of good opponents at various tournaments. Safin, Hewitt, Sampras, Federer... all included...

Hello y'all!!! Tommy won "best jump in the ranking" on the ATP website contest. He was also #2 in "best comeback", after Safin, but to me, he's still the best comeback by far... Does anyone remember that phenomenal play at the U.S. Open quarterfinals against Lleyton Hewitt, near the end of the third set!? I was speechless. That play sums up all I think about this magnificent player.

I think I know what extraordinary point you mean, it was really a great one, I remember seeing it just a few days ago in the most spectacular sports plays of the year on Eurosport.
But unfortunately, the rest of the match and Tommy's effort was by far not enough. He should have fighted and tried more, but I think he would have lost either way no matter what he did because playes of the type like Lleyton Hewitt and Canas are lethal enemies for Tommy and because the conditions where exactly what Tommy can't need for his game (to beat Lleyton he has to go close to the lines and needs to hit the balls properly, with a wind like that, it's unpossible. Lleyton's playing style retrieving and just putting back the balls into play was an advantage).

tom&ni
12-31-2004, 01:53 AM
I absolutely agree with you. Lleyton Hewitt is one of the players I fear the most. I think what makes his game so flawless is his precission, and if you add those horrible weather conditions... Anyways, I still prefer Tommy's out-of-the-ordinary game. Can't help it!

Injured Haas doubtful for Australian Open

PERTH. Jan 6 (Reuters) - Former world number two Tommy Haas is doubtful for this month's Australian Open after picking up a thigh injury playing for Germany in the Hopman Cup on Thursday.
The 26-year-old had treatment on his left thigh while leading Argentine Guillermo Coria 7-5 2-2 and though he played one more game, his movement was hampered and he quit.

Haas, world-ranked 18th, will now struggle to be fit for the Open, the first grand slam event of the year, which starts on January 17.

The German, who is also due to play in the Medibank International in Sydney next week, only returned to the tour last February after 14 months out following a shoulder operation.

That's unbelievably bad luck for him!

He played this week really great and looked to be in great shape.
Germany was about to kill Argentina in this tie, they were up 1-0 and 1-0 sets.
And that would made them the finals   :sobbing:

I hope that it's just a sprain and that nothing is torn. He will do a scan tomorrow.

Injured Haas to miss Sydney tournament

PERTH, Australia, Jan 7 (AFP) - German Tommy Haas will miss the Sydney international tennis tournament due to start this weekend after tearing a muscle in his groin, organisers said Friday.
Haas, who was forced to withdraw from the Hopman Cup mixed tournament in Perth during his singles tie against Argentina's Guillermo Coria on Thursday, was however expected to be fit for the Australian Open starting January 17.
Hopman Cup organiser Paul McNamee said the former world number two had scans on his left thigh which revealed a slight tear in the groin muscle.
The injury was not serious however and would not stop Haas from competing in the Open at Melbourne Park, McNamee said.
Haas would probably only need a week's treatment before being able to play again, he said.
Australian Mark Philippoussis was also forced out of the Hopman Cup -- and possibly the Australian Open as well -- with a more serious tear to adductor muscles in his right thigh.

When looking for a schedule what matches Eurosport plan to broadcast tonight, I saw that there are a few good Tommy Haas videos. There was a show on Eurosport about two weeks ago about Tommy and they put up a few video clips of it on their website.

Apparently, our dear Tommy is going after an Aussie entertainer named Suzie Wilks (y'all Aussie folk probably know her!) I'm so crazy right now!! She looks older than Tommy, certainly not the best definition of beautiful (more "fake" than beautiful, I would say), though she seems to have a bubbling personality. Plus: it seems she's a Libra; not a good match for you, my love.

Tommy, I'll say this to you: I'm younger, prettier, love fast cars and could perfectly be a tennis player girlfriend. Get over that chick!!! (I guess us girls could all say the same right now!)

Here's the rest of the story. Amuse yourselves...

Thought you might be interested that Tommy was a part of the big charity tennis event in Houston, Texas tonight... I don't think he was originally scheduled to be there, but it seems he and Andy played in the feature 'match' of the exhibition - which raised over $500,000 for the tsunami...

Tennis stars help raise more than $500,000

Associated Press

HOUSTON - Andy Roddick, Tommy Haas, John McEnroe, Chris Evert and Jim Courier played a little fun tennis for a big cause Monday night, helping to raise more than $518,000 for tsunami relief.

Roddick, who lost to Lleyton Hewitt in the semifinals of the Australian Open, defeated Haas 7-6 (6) in the feature match of the event for the Bush-Clinton Fund for Tsunami Relief.

Courier, whose production company put on the event, lost 6-4 to McEnroe in the opening match.

"Everything's going very smoothly except for the fact that I just lost to a guy who has more gray hair than my father," Courier said about the loss to 45-year-old McEnroe, 12 years his senior.

The Houston Chronicle reported in its Tuesday editions that one person who insisted on anonymity paid $250,000 for 50 seats at the benefit at the Toyota Center and the United States Tennis Association contributed $25,000. Former President Bush accepted a giant check for $518,952.

Evert praised the current players who participated in the event.

"They flew all the way in from Australia for this," she said. "In my day, we never played charity events (during the season). To see Andy fly over after a very disappointing loss - I'm sure he's not very happy right now - that's really impressive."

"Andy Roddick gets it, and Jim Courier gets it," McEnroe said. "Tennis needs events like this, innovations, new ways to reach out to the fans. It's for a great cause, obviously, and it's also very good for the game. Jim has credibility because he has won (three Grand Slams).

"He's still young enough that the current players know him, but he's been around long enough for the older guys like myself to remember him beating up on me at the end of my career. It's a good combination, making it easy for him to reach a lot of people."

The event was to help relief efforts in south Asia where the tsunami, triggered by a massive earthquake on Dec. 26, claimed more than 178,000 lives in 11 countries.

Tennis Channel To Air 24 Hours Of Serving For Tsunami Relief
By Tennis Week
02/09/2005

The Tennis Channel and E! Entertainment Television will air special telecasts of tennis’ "Serving for Tsunami Relief" player and celebrity tournament later this month. Both networks will televise a phone number that viewers can call to make donations to the tsunami relief effort.

Match play and behind-the-scenes footage from the Houston Toyota Center will appear in a one-hour highlight show on E! Entertainment Television Thursday, February 17th at 10 p.m. Eastern followed by 24-straight hours of the full, three-hour event on The Tennis Channel, beginning Wednesday, February 23rd at 6 a.m. Eastern. Both The Tennis Channel and E! Entertainment Television will telecast the programs nationally, with E! airing it globally as well, on the E! International Network, available in over 50 countries. Each network will televise a phone number that audiences can dial to make donations to the relief effort. The Tennis Channel produced the event for both networks.

"The disaster in Southeast Asia brings into sharp focus how much we take for granted, and forces all of us to review our priorities," said Steve Bellamy, president and founder, The Tennis Channel. "The Tennis Channel is honored to be a part of the tennis community’s effort to assist the victims of this horrific event. We appreciate the cooperation from E!, and their help in spreading this message around the globe."

Organized by Jim Courier's InsideOut Sports and Entertainment, the event features former No. 1 Jim Courier and a prestigious cast of current and former tennis players including John McEnroe, Chris Evert, Andy Roddick, Tommy Haas and Anna Kournikova. In addition, Dr. Phil McGraw and Houston college and former professional basketball great Clyde Drexler participated in the event. Singles matches offer McEnroe against Courier (with McGraw serving as chair umpire) and Roddick against Haas. Doubles competition includes McGraw and Kournikova taking on Evert and Drexler, and later Roddick and Evert against McEnroe and Kournikova.

A special donation check will also be presented to former President George H.W. Bush and former first lady Barbara Bush during the evening. According to event organizer Jim McIngvale,Houston chair of the Bush-Clinton Tsunami Relief Fund, all of the proceeds from “Serving for Tsunami Relief” will go to victims of the disaster in Southeast Asia.

Does anyone know what happened with Tommy after Moodie's match? The media said he "ran away" and referred to him as having had an "unprofessional behaviour" because he skipped the press.

Haas Hits The Streets
By Tennis Week
03/15/2005

Tommy Haas is taking tennis to the streets on Friday morning. Haas will help promote next week's Nasdaq-100 Open by hitting with about 50 kids from the Miami-Dade County Parks & Recreation tennis camps at 11 a.m. on the street in front of the Stephen P. Clark Building on NW 1st Street between NW 1st and NW 2nd Ave in downtown Miami.

Officials from the Nasdaq-100 Open, Miami Dade County and other local dignitaries will get their chance to play tennis on the streets of Miami. New tournament sponsor Starbucks will be on hand providing product sampling.

The event is open to the public; spectators are encouraged to attend and parking is available.

I hope for that every year, but since quite a long time it's not looking... it's on clay and Argentina, Chile and Spain are normally just too strong for that... :(

In Argentina, if you don't play on clay you don't play tennis at all. That's why we're one of the best at playing on clay. I personally think clay is the best surface for tennis. No dangerous injuries, good slide, slow game, and the best part is you enjoy being outdoors. :)

I hope you can get back in the World Group and play with us! :yeah: I honestly think (aside from Argentinian players, that's it! ;) ) the best tennis players are German and French. GOOD GOOD TENNIS!!

Na... I stick to what I said, and I mean it! It's not my kind to go after approval. I really mean it! There was a time Germany was simply unbeatable! Gabriela Sabatini always had the hardest of times when playing Steffi Graff... She and Amelie Mauresmo (French!) are, to me, the best female tennis players in history. As men, don't need to mention Tommy and Boris, and I think Sebastien Grosjean has the finest hand in tennis I've ever seen. Go for both countries!

Tommy Haas sucht leidenswillige Traumfrau

(nz)

The article is say that Tommy says his wife must be okay with permanent jetting around the world, from tournament to tournament. Sandy did this okay (he was long together with him) but Rebecca haven't wanted to do that a bit. She have not liked the rythm of life of a tennis player.

This article is a summary of an interview that Tommy did with Bunte magazine. I can't find the original Bunte article online anywhere, which is a shame because he makes it very clear that he is not with Sandy and he is single. I posted the original German article because the babelfish translation was horrible and I knew that Neely or someone would come along and translate it.

Tommy and Rebecca were together from about October of 2003 to early Spring of 2004. She met him when he was still injured, and was still with him when he played his first tournaments in the US. It was when he went off to Europe for clay and grass that it became hard for them, so I think that is why they broke up.

You're welcome Tauees, welcome to the MTF boards and the Tommy forum.

Tommy is playing the River Oaks Exhibition tournament in Houston this week. Here's an article about it from the Houston Chronicle. I don't think we need to start a new thread for this tournament, we can just post news and such here.

Novak is added to mix as No. 2 seed

Roddick will still play; Philippoussis, Young withdraw
By DALE ROBERTSON
Copyright 2005 Houston Chronicle

Defending co-champion Jiri Novak has been added to the River Oaks International field and will be the No. 2 seed when the River Oaks Country Club's 71st tournament starts Monday.

Tommy Haas, once the second-ranked player in the world, is the top seed in the 24-man event. Paradorn Srichaphan will be the third seed, followed by Taylor Dent, Robby Ginepri, Thomas Enqvist, Jeff Morrison and Dmitry Tursunov.

The seeded players will receive first-round byes.

But the tournament has lost two of its top drawing cards in Mark Philippoussis and Donald Young Jr. Philippoussis, the former Wimbledon runner-up whose career has been plagued by physical problems, was hurt again in his opening match in the Nasdaq-100 Open and will be off the court for at least five weeks. Young had to withdraw because of a scheduling conflict.

The last man into the field will be decided at 2 p.m. today when Michael Domanski plays Dusan Vemic in the final round of qualifying.

Novak, ranked 26th to Haas' 17th on the ATP computer, advanced to the final against Hugo Armando a year ago but they were unable to finish because of daylong heavy rains. Armando also returns and will meet Alex Kuznetsov in Monday's featured match at 5:30 p.m. The tournament begins with Brendan Evans vs. Thomas Blake at 1:30 p.m.

Tournament director and River Oaks head pro Van Barry says Andy Roddick's exhibition match against Mardy Fish on Thursday evening will be played as scheduled despite Roddick's having to withdraw from the Nasdaq in the second round last week with a wrist injury.

"I've kept in touch with Andy's people and they've assured me he's OK," Barry said.

This is what the Houston paper printed about yesterday's results at the River Oaks tournament:

Armando was one of three unseeded players to register upsets as the quarterfinals of the 71st River Oaks tournament began to take shape.

Also, Mike Russell knocked off the sixth seed, Thomas Enqvist, 6-1, 6-4. And Michael Ryderstadt stunned last year's co-champion with Armando, second-seeded Jiri Novak, 7-5, 6-4.

But top-seeded Tommy Haas turned the tide in the day's final match, beating soon-to-be-19 Brendan Evans 7-5, 6-3.

Go Tommy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Haas loves Houston
Haas, 27 and ranked 16th, is much further along — but he had further to go, having missed most of two years while doctors tried to successfully repair his shoulder. Last April in Houston, he announced his return to good health by whipping Andy Roddick in the U.S. Clay Courts finals at Westside Tennis Club.

"There haven't been any jolts of pain since that scared me," Haas said after dispatching Russell. "Believe me, I know what to look for."

Tommy has updated his website in German only again. Will someone please translate for me. I may have to break down and learn German if this keeps up! At least I could whisper some sweet nothings in Tommy's ear in his native language.

Euch weiterhin viel Spaß auf meiner Homepage!

Viele Grüße,
Tommy

Here's a rather quick translation, I was too lazy to fetch my dictionary...

Houston: Doubles victory

Together with Hugo Amando I won at the exhibition tournament of Houston. In the final we defeated the team of Ferreira/Tarango 6:4, 6:4. But in the singles I only made to the semis. I lost to James Blake with 6:3, 3:6 and 4:6. In the final he will have to face the Russian Dimitry Tursunow.

Overall I had really nice days once again here in Houston. I trained a lot and hard, prepared very well for clay. Since 1931 this event has been held for the 71th time now. The organizers always do their best to make the week as pleasant as possible for the players.

Have fun on my homepage!

I posted on that site once, months ago, and I haven't posted again. They talk about too much other stuff and when they do talk about Tommy, the info is usually wrong. The layout of the board makes it hard to continue a conversation. I think he needs to do some work on the website, it may be time for a redesign, and he needs more photos. I offered to give him the pictures I took of him in Indian Wells (I always take good pics of him for some reason), but I haven't heard anything from him. Of course, he's busy, so its no big deal. TENNIS NOTEBOOK
Court makeover keeps players behind baselines
Slow clay affects play at River Oaks, once known for its speedy surface
By DALE ROBERTSON
Copyright 2005 Houston Chronicle

In recent years, the River Oaks Country Club courts were deemed much too fast. The hard-packed Texas limestone, which had been in place since the 1920s, made them play as slippery and fast as grass. The players joked that the dry red-orange stuff was "kitty litter."

But the new American red clay — installed over the winter with a subterranean watering system to keep moisture at a consistent level — had its detractors, too. Too slow seemed to be the consensus at the River Oaks International. Even Dmitry Tursunov, who lost in Sunday's final, termed it "mud."

Some suggested the surface resembled the slowest of the European clays, the kind used in Hamburg for the German Open, but Tommy Haas, who is German, suggested they were mistaken.

"Maybe they haven't actually been to Germany — this is slower," he said. "The slowest I have ever seen."

Hence, volleying became an even rarer tactic than it already is in the modern game, with a preponderance of rallies where both players are standing eight feet behind the baseline and swinging from their heels. One player noted that returns "come back harder than the serves."

Those who have been on both local surfaces proclaimed the French red clay at Westside to be much faster. River Oaks' courts will, however, speed up as they become packed down with use. And nobody complained about any inconsistencies or bad bounces.
...
Tommy Haas and Hugo Armando arrived at the Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Bradenton, Fla., almost simultaneously when they were both 13 years old and promising future stars. They hit it off immediately and remain good friends, which made their first doubles title together all the more special Saturday. They had hit thousands of balls together in practice, but they never had teamed up in a match that counted for anything.

In World Team Cup today, Tommy played a good match and it was refreshing to see him playing like that even though he didn't win it at the end. But he wanted it badly and tried everything, he even dived for a volley (Robredo still had another two chances to pass him, but Tommy was a wall at the net at this time) and made the most spectacular point I've seen whole week, finished with a smash after a too short lob attempt of Robredo.

The match was very high quality, unfortunately with the wrong outcome for Germany.

One interesting fact: in an interview after his match against Gaudio, Tommy was asked whether it might have been to much to play WTC this week with the French Open ahead. And he said sth like that it's absolutely important to play for Germany in a team event like this, no matter what comes next. Deutschland gewinnt den World Team Cup 2005

Congratulations to Tommy and all the Germans! Though I'm Argentine I'm happy they won, they were the best team today.

... Qué dilema el de hoy, no? ;)

La verdad que sí.... No sabia a quien alentar.

What's all the hoopla (I couldn't translate) over Julia Segal over on Tommy's site?

Y... ¿No estaba divino cuando ganó Tommy? Me gustó el menú- bananas y Coca-Cola... Ja ja ja!

P.D.: ¿Te molesta que escriba "Vicky"?

Hey, Hasi-K, don't worry about it. It's all a fuss about Tommy dating someone called Giulia something (I don't know her, and I don't know who's ex wife she was...), but I don't think it's true, and if it is, there's not much we can do about it, is it? As long as Tommy keeps on playing the way he played on Saturday... he can date Elizabeth Tylor!!

About the other site... you mean the SF? I don't know- haven't had any problems yet.

Graciasss. :)

Deutschland gewinnt den World Team Cup 2005

I'll translate the last part, for I've little time now. I'm at work at the Uni-library and people keep asking me when the toilet will be fixed again, as if I knew  They're just too lazy to go upstairs to the other restrooms :p The first parts are only about the WTC-results, nothing urgently important.

Important success for the team

Altough the WTC isn't that big as the Davis-Cup, this triumph was incredibly important for us. Finally we were able to show our potential. Plus: everybody could see how big the team spirit is, which we have been denied several times. We must try to take this experience with us to the Czech Republic in September for the relegation match.

Hola Vicky!

Hi

I would like to know what is this story between Tommy and another girl ?

Neely
05-24-2005, 09:13 PM
I'm not sure if there is any proper "story" and what's the fuss about it. There are rumours about him and Giulia Siegel. Well, I personally don't like Giulia Siegel and her whole style and appearence much, but okay, if he keeps on winning more matches and if he is happy with her, if she provides important support for him, he could be together with anybody, even with Alice Schwarzer (even thought that frump would be an awful match for him)

Fee, Gulia isn't a frumpy chick at all I would say, rather the opposite and I would say that many people would rate her as very attractive! She's just not the kind of 'celebrity' I'm into... but well, what-/whoever Tommy makes happy

I swear if I had a dollar for everytime someone speculated about Tommy's love life (and was wrong), well I'd have quite a few dollars. I also don't really care who he is with, I just want him to play good tennis and not be so cranky. I really like his game, he can be so smooth and flowing that it's fun to watch. I even like it when he talks to himself on court (as long as he's winning).

I'm not hot, just average with big hair. But thanks anyway. :D

You're all beautiful to me, honeys! ;) Fee, you look really happy in that pic with Tommy! (oh, who wouldn't be, right? ) Aahhh... yeah, about the gf thing, I read it over his (old) site. Yes, they're dating alright, as Siegel said so herself, but I don't mind. She's Taurus, Tommy's Aries... no relationship material for the Ram... Have to say I'm with you, Neely- she's definitely not what I would call "a beautiful woman"... Sandy is still ranking #1 in my "Tommy's ex girlfriends" list... I'm with you, San! ;)

P.S.: And Fee... it's Tommy's cranky mood that makes him so attractive in court!! ;) It's like you never know when his Aries anger-attack is gonna explode...! I love Tommy's cranky mood. I prefer it to Rogie "the sphynx"...

Tommy doesnt have bad temper.. he is a good guy.. I dont know where you read or where you heard that ;)

Fee
05-28-2005, 06:34 AM
Well, it depends on your definition of bad temper. I've seen him get pretty 'riled up' on court, swearing at Red, throwing towels, and whatnot. He is not nearly as bad as some of the famous tempers on the tour (including Kiefer). I wouldn't call it angry or mad, just cranky or passionate (same with Nic, that's not really anger). Some players can use this to their advantage to get excited about the match, some players let it distract them, some players you just never know how they will deal with it.

In person, I've seen many different moods of Tommy, and it kind of makes me laugh. Overall, he's an okay guy, just depends on the mood he is in, if he's in a hurry, or had a bad practice, or wants to focus on a match or whatever. He was a little stinker to me in LA last year and I was not pleased, but he was very charming and funny when I saw him in San Jose a few months back, so now I know to try to get a feel for his mood and not take it personally anymore. Overall, he's pretty decent with tennis fans.

PD: Lo viste a Tommy hoy? Pobre Tommy....

Great news and I hope that his entry sounds as truthful as possible and that he doesn't drop his head and is eager and hot to prepare for his comeback rather than saying "damn, I'm so unlucky" and feeling sorry for himself.

If his return prior to the US Open is possible from medical terms of view, I believe it would be only good for him to get some match experience before the US Open.

For those of you outside the U.S., you may be interested in knowing that the USTA has been running new t.v. commericals for the U.S. Open Series. They started airing during Wimbledon & have continued during Newport, WTT, & some other sporting events. The commericials are a takeoff of "The Real World" t.v. series & have each of the top players appear with a nickname describing his/her "role" in the U.S. Open Series. Haas is "The Stud".

You can watch the two versions of the ads here (click on "broadband video":

Yes, this is from Tennis-x.com today. I'm a bit stunned, I think this could turn out to be a HUGE mistake for him and he is putting himself in danger of re-injuring the ankle.

...Tommy Haas on the ankle he turned stepping on a ball at Wimbledon, and defending his title next week in L.A.: "It is better. It is still a little bit swollen, but it has been four weeks for it to heal now and my doctor said it takes about six weeks for the ligament to heal fully, but I have been playing again on the courts and feeling pretty good and I am just now trying to get back into shape and get my strokes back in tune and be ready to defend my title next week."....

Neely
07-22-2005, 02:03 AM
I hope he doesn't make any mistakes and if he plays that nothing happens and that he doesn't make it worse.

I can hardly imagine that his staff would let him play if this would be a suicide mission from the beginning and totally out or reality.

I just think some additional would be fine, but probaly he is too eager to play LA, especially since he wants to try defending this title!

victoria_maraude
07-28-2005, 05:42 AM
Luckily, his ankle is ok:

Tommy Haas of Germany played for the first time since tearing a ligament in his right ankle at Wimbledon and opened defense of his Mercedes-Benz Cup title by winning in straight sets Tuesday.
"Just coming out here trying to defend my title is obviously very satisfying for me," Haas said. "Sometimes I still don't have the right movement, sometimes I still think about my ankle a little bit."

"It's all taped up and safe, but it's good to see that I don't have aches or anything going on in my ankle right now."

Haas said he originally planned to return to the tour at Montreal Aug. 8. But he decided to play Tuesday after doctors assured him there was little risk of reinjuring the ankle.

Tommy is in Bradenton working on his fitness for Davis Cup. He will be leaving next week.

Would someone please translate this article that was posted on his website?

Thank you, thank you.

-Milan Pavlovic"
