anyone know about lars burgsmuller? watched him play a couple times and congratulated him on one of his matches...seems real quiet, shy, real cute! anyone agree? :)

Yes, he seems a little shy but also very nice.
Only know that he is best friends with Rainer Schüttler and they have the same coach (Dirk Horrdorf) for a couple of years now.
He also moved to the same town as Rainer in Switzerland.

He's a sweetie. I watched him in some Aussie tournaments this year. He seems very determined, and he trains so hard! He kind of reminds me of Wayne ferreira. A little ;)

Lars enjoyed a great week in doubles!

Lars and Jan Vacek lost the Ordina Open final to Damm/Suk 3-6 7-6(7) 3-6

but still a great achievement from Vacek/Burgsmüller to get to this final :)

I hope he can do better in singles again, his year so far didn't have many wins

no, cannot confirm it because I know it, but based on the fact that the matchup Burgsmüller/Braasch vs Schüttler/Youzhny doesn't occur too often, that the surface is grass and that the ATP site says that Burgsmüller/Braasch won 3-6 6-2 6-3 what matches the "6" in the background on the scoreboard for Schüttler/Youzhny I think that you are right and that is should be this match you are talking about.

Speaking of the man himself how much better did he look today in that dark coloured shirt! :D
Shame the colour change didn't make him win *grrrrrrrr*

Hi there! I saw Lars at the Ordina Open and he was very sweet. He did some tricks for me and my friend on the court and he waved (during the match!) Since that time I support him! :yeah:

hehehe Lars just rocks! He's such a sweetie :D I'm as big a fan of Lars as alfonsoe is of Rainer's!!! That's a fair summary hehehe

He's been in Spain the past few weeks and didn't do too badly so I'm quite happy :D wooohooo!

Lars should play the Olympics, shouldn't he!? The doubles at least (he got to the final at the Ordina Open, where I saw him with Jan Vacek... he did so well!)
Who makes up these stupid rules??? Also Sluiter couldn't play.. I am very sad...
Anyway, you can also look at it from the bright side: the guys that do not play in Athens can fully concentrate on the upcoming US Open. They're bound to play well there then! Jippie!!

Neely
08-25-2004, 12:09 AM
well, Lars's ranking dropped a lot the last time, that means he has to play the qualification for the 1st time since US Open 2002

His first match is against Daniel Köllerer from Austria, basically a very capable player that I already saw a few times playing at challengers, but on the other hand Köllerer can also be easily defeated once you get in his head and if he is upset with how things are going.

He is also known as "Crazy Dani", look in this thread I posted some time ago http://www.menstennisforums.com/showthread.php?t=10786

I hope Lars gets a good start and beats him! :D :clap2:

good luck, Burgi!

athie
08-25-2004, 05:54 PM
Disappointingly Lars lost to Köllerer (6-3 : 6-0). I’m struggling to think why since Lars has had a recent good spell in the Challengers.
Actually there is no excuse for a 6-0 loss in the second set. WTF were you thinking man!

I'm NOT happy!

Neely
08-25-2004, 05:58 PM
looks like everything came together: Köllerer played his A-Game and Larsi could do nothing at all and probably lost interest how things were going all the way against him

OMG, he is going from low to low since weeks, months already

Me either SFA :(

I’ve given up questioning how someone like Lars who trains and works his ass off can perform so poorly when it comes to matches.

I often wondered if it was nerves. He looks like a startled rabbit caught in car headlights on court!

Hope he's no thoughts of giving up yet either :banghead:

Burgsmuller: "It feels very good to beat Zeng because he can play good and he beat me in doubles last year so I knew he could play tennis…I couldn't finish it. I think my brain was already in the locker room mentally. Then I got a break and had to serve at 5/4 and then also on a match point I couldn't finish it so I was a little bit lucky in the end."

Today morning, I switched on the TV during breakfast and I had to rub my eyes in disbelief as I saw a (about) 40 seconds report on n-tv of Lars's match!
Normally you only get the results or maybe a short notice if Rainer or somebody higher ranked is playing, but now they even considered Lars Burgsmüller :)
these tournaments in Asia which must be the worst covered in Germany of all tennis tournaments in the world. You virtually get nothing at all...

The result was really damn close and I should better not know how many match points he had to save in this match ( ) but I'm sure it's great for him that he could win this close match and that's much better for him then losing it and he was in a bad situation before this tournament almost losing to anybody.

Also remember that Sanguinetti can have a very uncomfortable playing style and Tommy also needed some time to figure him out at the US Open as he won just in five sets.

8-6 in the final set tiebreaker... OMG  :aparty: :bounce:

he really can not complain about his draw so far and Carlsen for the next match is again not a top player for a semifinal. Maybe he makes the best out of it and make use of this good draw :)

Neely
10-01-2004, 06:23 PM
yeah, maybe he can beat Carlsen. At least it's fair to say that he is in the "good" half of the draw because the other semifinal with Canas and Novak would have been much stronger.

Here was me thinking the season was almost over. Well it is, but there’s a few more Challengers’ Lars is penciled in for.

Next WK - Aachen Challenger, Germany
8.11/WK 45 - Bratislava Tatra Banka Open
15.11/WK 46 - Eckental Okal Cup, Germany

Lars finished last season with in Eckental so that might be it, still waiting to hear.

Site’s up and kinda running but it’s still not yet completely finished. I unfortunately keep breaking things (specifically the photo gallery) and had to call a coder in to re-fix my breakages LOL! :D
Any feedback on how you think it’s going so far would be really appreciated tho. (linked in signature)

Lars lost his 1st round match in Bratislava against Lovro Zovko, a Croatian qualifier.

Zovko def. Burgsmüller 6-7(9) 7-5 7-6(5)

Hey athie + Neely... thanks for posting in the AP guestbook guys! :wavey:

I was wondering... has there been any word on Lars' whereabouts in the second week of the season?

My pleasure! Great site :worship: Be great if you heard from Alexander with some site feedback!!

Funny you should mention Lars & WK2. I was half expecting him to be penciled in somewhere! He might just be heading straight off to Melbourne with Rainer after Chennai but I'm not 100% sure........ There don't appear to be any Challengers in WK2 so that knocks that thought on the head. Chances are he will popp (oh dear hehe!!) up somewhere! (maybe doubles) Least he's not having to play in the AUS Open Qualies :D

WK3 he's playing the AUS Open and he's supposedly playing in The Heilbronn Challenger (http://www.heilbronn-open.de/index.html) (WK4) if he's out in the 1st round.
WK5 he's down as an Alternate in Milan which I'm surprised about since there's The Volkswagen Challenger (Wolfsburg, Germany) the same week. It's a case of waiting for the schedules to come through and some are coming through pretty slowly :(

But you have to see that Vanek had probably the more impressing results this week. So I wouldn't call Burgsmüller the big favourite, but I hope he wins it.;)

OMG It's a strange start into the year for the German tennis. All Kohlschreiber (165), Phau (86), Burgsmüller (66), Behrend (67) and Petzschner (51) have scored more entry points than the 4 big names.

Heya guys,
Mixed feelings about this posting for obvious reasons

Lars’s official site (http://www.lars-burgsmueller.de/) has been re-developed and went live this morning.
I will be working on the new site but I WILL continue with mine of that’s ok with you!
I’m no web designer (oddly enough I’m a network infrastructure engineer, more of a geek than a web designer!!) and realise I’ve still got a ton of work to do. Kristen for one will know that websites can cause blood, sweat and tears and I mean that literally. Just trying to convince myself that carrying on with my site is worthwhile.
Ho hum....

Lars was 3-0 down then 4-1 up in the 1st set - broken scoreboard! (everyone thought Chela was winning at this point including me) Lars didn’t win another game after that!
Chela won 6-4 : 6-0. Chela did say it was very humid and took him a while to get into the match so maybe Lars was just outplayed.

Lars was brill in Rosmalen! I was there, didn't get a centre court pass by the way, but I saw it on the great screen while watching Anna-Lena's match on court number one (cheering louder for Lars than for AL... ). After the match, Lars passed... all these kids around him. Suddenly he is all popular and stuff  Finally he's getting some recognition! Hope he'll take it all the way on to the finals, but now he's up against Jan Hernych, who is also on a roll (beating Coria in straight sets)... :yeah:

I had hope he can beat him because Llodra didn't seem to play so well recently and had a rough start into this tournament. But okay, a quarterfinal is still something positive for Burgsmüller and that's something he didn't have since long time on ATP level.

Overall, together with Kohlschreiber, a considerably good tournament for the Germans again with two quarterfinalists (Halle was even better) :yeah: At least something more positive than these pathetic losses in Hamburg where almost nobody lost first round :o

A solvable task for Lars Burgsmüller today in his first round at Wimbledon!

against Puerta!

Puerta was hardly ever playing any tournaments on non-clay. I hope Lars has the clear edge in this one! Good luck! :bounce:

Lars has good chances against Puerta! Can't see why he shouldn't be able to beat him, since Puerta hates grass and Lars loves it! :yeah:

Burgsmüller def. Puerta 6-1 6-1 6-4

Good show, Lars! Pretty much walked the match and he withstood Puerta's resistence as Puerta gave it one more last try in the third set to gain any advantage. Puerta on grass is for sure a grateful 1st round seed if you have to play a seed.

And BTW, that's the first 2nd round in a Grand Slam for Lars since Roland Garros 2004!
Well needed win overall! :yeah:

Heya folks.... Larsi news....
Pulled a muscle in Cordoba last wk (hamstring) and had to retire in match against Mahut. Thought I'd be ok for Newport match but seems it was too early and had to retire again.

He's got a week off to recover before Stuttgart then 4 Bundesliga matches. :wavey:

US Open, 1st round:

Lars vs Taylor Dent

 hmmm, not the easiest thing on earth...

He lost 3-6 6-3 1-6 4-6
Dent didn't look so great in this match. As I saw how the match went I really believed this will give Lars a chance, but Dent came through at the end.

I saw the match and Larsi played as best as he could - so no complaints - but Dent (grrrrrr) played best at the end of the day. Im a little sad Larsi didn't win but pleased he tried as hard as he did.

I'm a bit lost right now as from English media, Lars lost his 1st round match vs Tursunov but from Chinese media, it's the other way round. The draw sheet from official China Open site said Lars won 6-3 6-4 but on atptennis, he lost.

Lars lost to Goldstein 6-7 : 6-2 : 3-6.
Brief match report - 1st set TB - Lars is 3-0 up. Muffs it, including blowing set point away
Lars won the 2nd set 6-2 - Goldstein fell apart :D
Lars' 1st service is broken and Goldstein led 2-0. Lars breaks back and we hit 2 games all. Lars falls apart AGAIN and Goldstein takes the 3rd set 6-3.
LARS! :explode:
Just in the process of doing a more lengthy version on the site.
Lars is back in Germany for Aachen next week which is gonna be great! Hope he's not out in the 1st round

LOL! I know eh... thank goodness I took it on my crappy camera huh! It's great to see him in the second round. I wouldn't mind seeing him in the semi against Marach ;) I wonder if they're friends. I wonder that about a lot of tennis players these days. It's just that,., Lars is a good bloke, Oli is too... they're German speaking  Ok, not so many similarities! Just saw that Lars is teamed with Landsberg! NICE! Does this mean an early exit for Kunitsyn!? LOL Oh well...

*sigh* I always want to click on your avatar!!

Heya guys,

Just heard from Lars, he’s doing well!

He’s been nursing a foot injury for the past 4 months hence his absence.

He’ll be spending the next 2 weeks in practise, play Sarajevo quails then Tallahassee.

Rather than fire the website back up I’ll update with Larsi news here. I’m so busy with work I don’t have the time right now to commit to the site.

Hope everyone’s OK! & glad to have Larsi back on tour :D
