Chloe le Bopper 09-07-2003, 06:41 PM Damn... I was hoping the doubles final would go on for a while and that I would be at work when it was going on so that I could be distracted. Boo! Yoel etc. 09-07-2003, 06:42 PM Jonas & Todd defeat Bryan Brothers 5-7 6-0 7-5 :worship: jmp 09-07-2003, 06:51 PM Yoel, I think we're still an hour away but... Go Andy!! Oh, well :D Tennis Fool 09-07-2003, 07:37 PM Now just 25 minutes ;) Tennis Fool 09-07-2003, 07:39 PM Have you guys ever blown off things you should be doing for tennis? Why do they have to put the live men's final smack dabb in the middle of a weekend afternoon??? Chloe le Bopper 09-07-2003, 07:57 PM I'm blowing more important things off right now., and have been all weekend. Damn slams. Tennisfan-Mtl 09-07-2003, 08:01 PM Are they showing it live on CBS ? Go Juan Carlos ! :) Tennisfan-Mtl 09-07-2003, 08:03 PM CBS is showing Football now...:( Tennis Fool 09-07-2003, 08:10 PM Ahhh, you know you'd rather see the Dolphins  jmp 09-07-2003, 08:28 PM Me love FOO-Ball! :D I put as much on hold for tennis as possible. When I can't avoid something that must be done, I use the VCR. Dolphins are making their last stand...no dice. It's over and Houston upsets Miami, 21-20. Time for :tennis: :bounce: Layla 09-07-2003, 08:46 PM I usually take a 2 week vacation during Roland Garros. ;) VAMOS JUAN CARLOS! :drive: King Aaron 09-07-2003, 08:49 PM Play has started. :) jmp 09-07-2003, 09:03 PM 1st break to Andy, *1-4 Tennis Fool 09-07-2003, 09:04 PM Ferrari down a break and edgy. How can he stop Roddick's serve  Tennis Fool 09-07-2003, 09:11 PM I hope Ferrari doesn't get beat too bad. If Roddick wins this, we'll never hear the end of it... Layla 09-07-2003, 09:11 PM I hate to admit it, but Andy looks like JCF did in the RG final - absolutely determined, focused and flawless. Not liking this at all. J. Corwin 09-07-2003, 09:13 PM Roddick actually outplayed Ferrero on the baseline on some of those points  jmp 09-07-2003, 09:14 PM JC is handling Andy's serve well by just blocking it back. Some aces he just won't get. What he's GOT to do is hold serve. He's also adjusted his returns by not giving Andy as much power to work with. Right now he looks discouraged, but, I think changing the pace on the return was the right move. When he has a chance for the winner, he needs to slam it home, though. Andy serving for the set, *5-3. jmp 09-07-2003, 09:19 PM 28 minute first set. Not very competitive. JC's last service game of the set looked very strong. So, this set may bring more... Get on it, JC!! You can do it! Andy leads, 6-3 *0-1 Layla 09-07-2003, 09:21 PM 28 minute first set. Not very competitive. JC's last service game of the set looked very strong. So, this set may bring more... Get on it, JC!! You can do it! Andy leads, 6-3 *0-1 Well, what do you expect with Andy serving like that. The games are over in a hurry. JC's not serving badly either at the moment. These are express games. I think there were only 2 break points in the entire set. On that JC missed and one that Andy took. Ferrero is very frustrated. I hope he figures out what to do with Andy's serve. martina 09-07-2003, 09:23 PM thanks for the scores jmp :) bloody eurosport not showing this :fiery: Tennis Fool 09-07-2003, 09:24 PM Yeah, how do you figure out Roddick's serve? I wouldn't know what to do either. Layla 09-07-2003, 09:25 PM Where are you from, Martina? Because my Eurosport is showing it live. Layla 09-07-2003, 09:26 PM Yeah, how do you figure out Roddick's serve? I wouldn't know what to do either. Yeah, I know. I was just being overly optimistic. This is extremely frustrating. Surely he can't keep serving like this all match! martina 09-07-2003, 09:28 PM I'm in Finland. I only get motorsports  Tennis Fool 09-07-2003, 09:28 PM Ferrari turning into a cranky bitch  Timariot 09-07-2003, 09:29 PM Roddick usually goes down the T with his first serve when serving to deuce court, and out wide when serving to AD court. Some people read his serves very well (Federer, Hewitt) but many do it very poorly. Key is to block them back, and then work your way in from the backcourt. Layla 09-07-2003, 09:30 PM I'm in Finland. I only get motorsports  That's strange. So for once it pays to have that German-market oriented window on Eurosport, even though the commentaries are in German. Tennis Fool 09-07-2003, 09:30 PM Layla, I guess it's to his disadvantage not have played him. He can't seem to pick it up like Nalby or Fed can :( TheBoiledEgg 09-07-2003, 09:30 PM Ferrero has already had about 10 bad calls pffffffffffff fight Sushi, use your Slime :) Vamos !!!!!!!!!! jmp 09-07-2003, 09:31 PM You may be right, Layla. I know if I were getting bombed by Andy, it would frustrate me! :) The TV commentators are saying that all this play is in JC's legs. I hope not. I think he should focus on holding and exploit any little window he gets to break. On serve, 6-3 *2-3 Layla 09-07-2003, 09:34 PM You may be right, Layla. I know if I were getting bombed by Andy, it would frustrate me! :) The TV commentators are saying that all this play is in JC's legs. I hope not. I think he should focus on holding and exploit any little window he gets to break. On serve, 6-3 *2-3 Yeah, that sounds like a good plan. :) Well, maybe he'll learn to read his serve by the end of the third set. ;) Tennis Fool 09-07-2003, 09:34 PM In a way, I think playing Andy will make Ferrari a better player on hardcourts, in that I mean he's got to keep improving and taking care of his serve (like he's been doing in the 2nd set). I actually hope this turns into a rivarly. I'm actually impressed with Andy--he's acting like a champ not a baby :o Layla 09-07-2003, 09:35 PM Layla, I guess it's to his disadvantage not have played him. He can't seem to pick it up like Nalby or Fed can :( Definitely. For a moment I thought it was cool that their first meeting was in a grand slam final, but now I'm reconsidering. Yoel etc. 09-07-2003, 09:36 PM That's strange. So for once it pays to have that German-market oriented window on Eurosport, even though the commentaries are in German. I'm from Israel and Eurosport is showing motorsports here as well  I guess they have different programs for different zones. Anyway, they say that they will show the recorded version tomorrow morning. If Roddick wins this, they can count on one viewer out Yoel etc. 09-07-2003, 09:37 PM I actually hope this turns into a rivarly. I'm actually impressed with Andy--he's acting like a champ not a baby :o Because he's winning. Remember how he behaved last night while he was being trounced by Nalby's return? martina 09-07-2003, 09:38 PM That's strange. So for once it pays to have that German-market oriented window on Eurosport, even though the commentaries are in German. it's extremely strange. coz this motorstuff isn't even live and they are showing the final tomorrow moring. so why not just switch these two?! they do this just to annoy and coz they don't think Finns are into tennis. *wishing I had German eurosport* Layla 09-07-2003, 09:39 PM In a way, I think playing Andy will make Ferrari a better player on hardcourts, in that I mean he's got to keep improving and taking care of his serve (like he's been doing in the 2nd set). I actually hope this turns into a rivarly. I'm actually impressed with Andy--he's acting like a champ not a baby :o It's easy to behave like a champ when everything is going your way. ;) If Ferrero had won the first set, it would have been a different story. But seriously, I'm impressed too. He acted like a champ in that he didn't let Ferrero win the first set. Tennis Fool 09-07-2003, 09:42 PM I say let's start a cyber drinking game for every point Ferrari gets on DH's serve... Err, never mind. Some of you may not be legal :o Layla 09-07-2003, 09:43 PM it's extremely strange. coz this motorstuff isn't even live and they are showing the final tomorrow moring. so why not just switch these two?! they do this just to annoy and coz they don't think Finns are into tennis. *wishing I had German eurosport* No, don't wish that! *shudder* I had to endure all Roland Garros and US Open listening to German commentary. Very few people in Slovenia speak German. And I heard it was the same in Spain, Portugal, and even Ireland. Eurosport gave the Astra satellite company a German channel which is in effect during grand slam events. It's annoying as hell and everyone has been complaining on the Eurosport webpage. It doesn't help though. Everything else is in English, as it should be. I didn't opt for a German version. There's a separate channel for German speakers, but now they're transmitting German commentary on both German and English channel. It makes absolutely no sense! Layla 09-07-2003, 09:44 PM I say let's start a cyber drinking game for every point Ferrari gets on DH's serve... Err, never mind. Some of you may not be legal :o Hey, I don't think so. I want to get drunk! Fast! Let's not forget Sushi is my aboslute favorite. ;) jmp 09-07-2003, 09:44 PM On serve, 6-3 *4-5 Andy's last service game (*3-4) may have been JC's best chance to break. Ferrari need to hold serve and *believe* he can break. babydoll 09-07-2003, 10:13 PM Right babydoll. Keep telling yourself that. Meanwhile you can keep telling yourself that Roddick is all serve. Maybe if you would watch one of his matches, you would notice he doesn't lack a big forehand and backhand. I hope you don't hang yourself if Andy wins. Good fortune to you. Timariot 09-07-2003, 10:15 PM Roddick's backhand is actually very mediocre...Nalbandian was winning like 75% of all baseline points yesterday, unfortunately he choked :( Roddick is one of those players who is very beatable when you figure his weaknesses, if you don't you'll lose very badly. Tennis Fool 09-07-2003, 10:19 PM Ferreri *take care* of your serve :( jmp 09-07-2003, 10:20 PM I think poor JC is so battered and bruised that he can't take advantage of these tiny chances he's been getting. Roddick is crying and so am I.:sad::sad: But not for the same reason. ;) Congrats to both players, it was a good, if unexciting match. Congrats to Andy, a new slam champion. I suppose it was written in the stars. All credit to him for holding his nerve and serving unbelievably. 4 aces in a row to win the match! Aurora 09-07-2003, 10:38 PM well, I know what's on my wishlist: better returns for JC but I do recognize the excellent playing of roddick. and yes, he's more than a serve but what would he be without his serve? doesn't matter congrats andy jtipson 09-07-2003, 10:41 PM Even with those 3 aces in the last game, Andy only served one more than Roger Federer did in the Wimbledon final. Why does it feel like it was so many more? And yes, the semis were much more interesting than the final, at least to me, but that's often the case. Well done, Andy. But number one is still up for grabs the rest of the year. jmp 09-07-2003, 10:41 PM Congratulations, Andy, on your 1st major title and on playing a dominant championship match from start to finish!
