I hope so. I already printed out the mapquest but it is so close to where I grew up that I could drive it in my sleep. I am so thankful Fee I checked the challenger circuit thread and that you helped :worship: Hopefully the players I like will still be there by the time I get there. I have a brother in Reading Mass so I would consider heading down thursday night. What time do the matches start ( quarters by then I guess). Thanks.

Well, I just realized today that Boston is indoor rebound ace, so its probably not like a typical fast indoor court. But one of the players (I think it was Amer or Fleishman) said that the Carson courts are pretty slow, so maybe it won't be that much of an adjustment for the guys. And there is always Nashville and Champaign after that.

I hate this draw. I suppose having JMG and Justin play each other is the punishment I get for enjoying myself in Carson this week. Oh well...

Thomas played team tennis during the summer, so he hasn't been out of action entirely. Perhaps he got a wildcard because he asked for one.

Cobalt, I'm sure there will be excellent tennis for you to see when you get there, even if none of your faves are left, it's such a strong draw. I almost envy you, but I've seen excellent matches this week in Carson and I shouldn't be greedy! :D

Thomas also went to Harvard, this tournament is near Boston, so I am not surprised they'd give him some love.

Oh, back to a discussion about 10 posts back, Chuck Gambill told me today that indoor Rebound Ace is actually a pretty quick surface and he expects it to be faster than the courts at Carson were. So, throw that in to the mix. I don't know what to think, but I guess we'll get some idea as the week progresses.

I will let you know if the courts are placed on an ice rink ;) All I know is that it is in the Bosse Arena. And the prices are such a deal :p
Free for qualies, Mon and Tues. $25 for all matches Wed-Fri and then $35 for Sat and Sun each. Wish I could go earlier but not to be.
And the folks in charge really want this to go well since this is the first challenger since 1999 when the ATP took it away. I will try and update when I can.

hey all! Just returned from todays matches and forgive any typos as I am on a borrowed puter that is missing keys......

The Bosse Sports complex is a private club and very nice. First the scores then my observations which you can skip....

Kim(USA) df Gremelmayr( GER) 6-3,6-1
Delgado(PAR) df Vanek ( CZE) 4-6, 7-6,6-2
Dancevic(CAN) df Sa( BRA) 6-4,6-2

I had to leave to attend a 5th yr olds BDay party and left on the program was Blake/Roy vs Dragicevic/Gambill
then Goldstein vs Chadaj( what a head of hair!)

Well the first match with Kim vs Gremelmayr was filled with many unforced errors. Therefore Kim won because he made less. G was getting pretty angry at himself and appeared to lose concentration. Neither player excited me today although I had seen Kim play qualies and first round in Montreal and he played well then. Kim is a bit of a quiet guy; very little emotion.

Next up-Delgado vs Vanek. Well Delgado made a new fan today. He had multiple chances in the first set and could not capitalize as Vaneks serve was awesome when it needed to be. The second set was close but Delgado was a guy on fire in the tiebreak and winning it gave him confidence. Third set was all Delgado. What impressed me most was his calm under pressure. Even when he made errors or was down in the set he kept his cool and kept his gameplan. Vanek lost confidence and that was that. And after the match; so poignant to see Vaneks girlfriend console him.

Well the best for last. The match of Sa vs Dancevic was a cut above the others. Although the score seemed easy it was not an easy match. Sa is such a graceful player-like a gazelle and is such an emotional player when he is losing. Portegues( spelling?) is such a beautiful language even when you bet it is swearing :-)
Dancevic played great- serve was on and these 2 guys were hitting stuff you see in a Masters tournie. Angles, tactic, and aggressive play -so appropriate for the rebound ace surface.

Thomas Blake- wow the hair just like James use to be. Even has the 5 oclock shadow so it was a bit eerie to see him. Chadajs hair is also a riot- and he and girlfriend were very cute together.

Thats that. Not sure is I am going tomorrow as some family stuff has come up. But I had a good time. Not many spectators so the atmosphere left something to be desied but still fun.

This should be a great final. Frank looked very very good on Friday in the QF's.

One other cute thing about the challenger- there was this little girl named Alexis ;an 8 year old ballgirl who was just the most professional ballgirl that I have ever seen. Wath out you Madrid models- this one was mucho better than you. Plus the players seemed to adore her as well. Very cute back and forth chatter.

Anyway best to both players in the final( although I want Paul to win)

BUD COLLINS
Major chances in minors
By Bud Collins, Globe Correspondent | November 5, 2005

SUDBURY -- There were no cockroaches in the locker room and, for that, Justin Gimelstob was grateful. He has showered in such places. ''Fergara in Uzbekistan -- you know, central Asia -- was the worst, I guess, in my travels, but there have been some pretty bad ones.

''But this is one of the best."

The surroundings and cushy atmosphere of the new tennis club on Route 20, Bosse Sports, may have taken some of the sting out of Gimelstob's tight loss to young Canadian Frank Dancevic Thursday night. Still, he would have gladly suffered a cockroach convention for a win.

''I need the computer points to make sure I can get into the Australian Open in January without going through qualifying."

After wandering the planet for a decade, Gimelstob, a 28-year-old pro out of Livingston, N.J., had a new address for a few days -- Sudbury, MA 01776. And Sudbury became a new destination on the unending global tennis cavalcade in the form of the $75,000 USTA/ADTECH Challenger, a weeklong tournament for guys that concludes with semifinals today at 1 (Dancevic and Paraguayan Ramon Delgado, respectively, against Americans Paul Goldstein and Kevin Kimand) and the final tomorrow.

''It's the minors, but a chance to move up to the big league or, for me, to get back there."

A lanky, 6-foot-3-inch All-American at UCLA, where his grade-point average was 4.0 for the two years he stayed, Gimelstob has been a high-low commuter. Five months ago, it was nirvana as he fought a good, but losing, battle with 2002 champ Lleyton Hewitt on Wimbledon's Centre Court. The world was watching.

Two nights ago, maybe 100 folks sat in on his 7-5, 6-3 defeat by No. 194 Dancevic. Centre Court to Sudbury -- part of the journey. Exotic Sudbury. Not exactly Bangkok, where Gimelstob very nearly beat Hewitt in September, and was momentarily big in Thailand. Gimelstob collected $860 for his brief role here, but in fluctuating between the bigs and littles this year has won $200,000. ''Look, I've got two brothers, investment bankers working 15 hours a day in an office. They make more than me, but I'm having more fun."

D.J. Bosse, 38, may be rescuing professional tournament tennis in the area.

''We're all for him and the title sponsor, ADTECH," said Tim Curry of the US Tennis Association. The USTA puts more than $5 million in organizing and helping the minor league in this country, a network of more than 70 internationally open tournaments. ''This is where most Americans get their start."

Or finish. Or keep hanging in like Gimelstob, once as high as No. 63, but now at No. 97, hoping to climb into the 80s and right into the Australian. It's the same goal that lured Delgado, Brazilian Andre Sa, Pole Adam Chadaj, Czech Jiri Vanek, Croat Roko Karanusic, and Aussie Chris Guccione to Sudbury, along with Americans Bobby Reynolds, Goldstein, Scoville Jenkins, Kevin Kim, and Jeff Morrison.

Bosse laughingly describes his role as ''feeding the starving. I know the Boston area has a lot of hungry tennis fans who've felt left out since Longwood folded the US Pro in 1999. This is historically tennis country, and this is the start to restore a local tournament. We welcome the return of the Boston Lobsters and World TeamTennis. The more tennis the better. But the tournament format shouldn't be lost.

''I think we can bring in the best players as we offer more money and redevelop the pro game in Boston."

Bosse has formed the first full-time teaching academy in this area, staffed by 11 pros. His Bosse Foundation is underwriting three promising teenagers from overseas: Rupesh Roy, 16, from India, and South Africans Ruan Roelofse, 15, and James Monroe, 14.

Roy, a shy yet friendly kid, uneasy with the transition from Hindi to English, flashes eager brown eyes. Sudbury isn't Calcutta, and lacks an Indian restaurant. The youngest of seven children of a struggling farm worker, Rupesh played barefoot on dried cow dung courts. But he was spotted as a talent, sent to Bosse, and even won a doubles match here Tuesday with Tom Blake.

Sudbury, now on the worldwide map of tennis, might be the start for Rupesh, too.
