Details about Andy's 2006 commitments are already coming out.... meaning... drumroll..... time for a thread :p

Jan 11-14 Kooyong Classic exhibition before the AO
Jan 16-29 AO
Feb 10-12 DC 1st Round (in the US, location TBD)
Feb 13-19 SAP Open in San Jose

My guess is he'll play Memphis after this then IW and Miami, DC QFs , Houston, skip MC, do Rome and Hamburg, then RG, Queens, Wimby.... so really we can guess at most of his 2006 schedule :p

Kooyong confirms superstar trio
October 6, 2005

WORLD No.1 Roger Federer and Americans Andy Roddick and Andre Agassi were today confirmed to play in the Kooyong Classic in Melbourne, a major Australian Open tune-up.

Organisers announced the majority of their eight-man field for the exhibition event to be played on Kooyong's hardcourt from January 11-14.

Federer, this year's Wimbledon and US Open champion, won at Kooyong last January, while Agassi is making his ninth appearance.

Tournament director Colin Stubs said Argentinean David Nalbandian (ranked No.12), compatriot Guillermo Coria (No.6) and German Tommy Haas (No.45) would also play in the event.

Stubs said negotiations were proceeding with Russia's Australian Open champion Marat Safin (ranked No.8), Frenchman Richard Gasquet (No.12) and American Taylor Dent (No.24) for the two remaining spots in the draw.

andy the fighter in 2006...he'll cross the net and punch you if he has to...

what if angry andy could win rolland garros?

i know its a long shot & all but after that davis cup weekend...i want to have some hope.
ive actually harbored a secret wish for this to be andy's next slam title...just for the shockwave alone-
and to just shut everyone up (like venus @ wimbly this year) who thinks they know everything about everything...which there is a lot of in tennis.

it would be perfection.

2006- rolland garros & wimbly= andy...dont laugh at me

Cheers! Here's a toast to the (new) Raging Asshole Andy in 2006:

beating the living shit out of lesser opponents instead of barely scraping by them...

getting revenge against lesser opponents like Mathieu and Muller who beat him when they shouldn't have...

start serving more bagels for breakfast instead of waiting around for someone to serve HIM...

getting to the second week of Roland Garros...

winning the Davis Cup...

beating Hewitt on a consistent basis on hardcourts...

beating Federer to finally take the Wimbledon crown...

telling Mary Carillo to piss off...

get a decent ad campaign from American Express...

dump Mardy and get back together with Mandy Moore...

I think Andy has figured out the best schedule for himself and will always play the same events year in year out, with the exception of maybe adding on a few if say he misses some because of an injury (don't get injured :fiery: ) or switching one event for another (like say switch one US hc event for another which are only 1 week difference). Although I'm not 100% satisfied with his current schedule, it is a very good one nonetheless.

The good thing is that Roddick will have a lot of points he can recapture and that Fed can't possibly do better than he did last year. I'm hoping Roddick can get to the Australian Open finals to start off a good year (well I'm hoping Roddick gets to every final). I think a good start at the Australian will set the tone for the year.

He has to go back at being number 2 (like in 2004). To ensure he only meets the Fed in finals. This year he's been lucky in major draws. Even Lleyton would have had more titles if he didn't run into Roger so often.

Andy vs. G. Coria. My French Open dream final! The only question, will it ever happen?

tangerine_dream
10-07-2005, 07:34 PM
My dream RG final would be Andy vs. Robredo.

I'm hoping that in 2006 Andy will start to refocus more on his strengths. I noticed throughout this year that there seems to be a concerted effort to improve Andy's weaknesses, which is grand, but unfortunately by doing so, it has chipped away at Andy's confidence.

Lacking in confidence has also negatively affected his strengths (remember when we were complaining that Andy wasn't blasting his forehand with authority anymore? Watch the Muller match again if you can stomach it). When you start to question your weaker plays then you will also start to question your strengths and suddenly your whole game falls apart. When your go-to shots fail, it becomes that much harder to recover.

Yes, you´re right. I can´t even remember the last time where Andy really hit a powerful fh with confidence anymore. Another thing that he has to get out of his system is his habit to stand 3 or 4 meters behind the baseline when he has a bp. What´s that? He stands at the baseline when the score is 30 all or something like that. Maybe next year we´ll see him serving from 3 or 4 meters behind the baseline when he´s facing a bp. That´ll be the new revolution, developed by Andy Roddick.

Yes, you´re right. I can´t even remember the last time where Andy really hit a powerful fh with confidence anymore. He does it sporadically. He did it once in a while at DC and Cincy this summer, etc. but consistently? Not for a while  Another thing that he has to get out of his system is his habit to stand 3 or 4 meters behind the baseline when he has a bp. What´s that? I don't have a problem with him sometimes reutrning far back, as long as he moves INTO the court after he hits the return, and the fact that he often fails to do that is what causes a lot of the problems.

Go Andy! You better come to Canada xD Well, it's not like I'll see you in Toronto *scratches head* But still, Canada, very important :D

I hope that... Andy does well this year. You know, improves. Everyone can improve- so I hope he does too :) I hope he has the best year evar! *giggle* I think I just became three years younger.

I can't wait for the Australian Open. I totally want Andy, the Bryan Twins, Sugiyama and Petrova to kick ass xD I'm like, so rooting hard for the Australian, all my favorites have never won there so like I really want them to do well XD

EDIT: BTW, I most agree with kicking Muller and Mathieu ass... :( Mathieu disappointed me the most, :'(

The best spell that Andy had this year, was probably at Queen's, playing like we all know he can.

At Wimbledon, he was grinding out results when he shouldn't have to in the first place. And it all came crumbling down again at the Finals. :o

There has been too much focus on the weaknesses, sometimes, you forget about your strength. And in times of need, he couldn't recall those much needed weapons. I've read bits of the biography of a very successful football (soccer) manager, where he told one of his players - sometimes, putting too much effort to develop yourself as a more complete players, you neglect what your strength is, in the first place. It shouldn't have been done in the expense of your own strength.

Andy has gotten a lot fitter than the year before - no doubt about that. And it's obvious he's added a lot more to his game, but how he's always trying to go for that one shot that he's determined to make, but not happening, at the expense of his game, is frustrating. :o

One thing I've noticed this year - he often let this one fact bothers him - that is giving a glimer of hope to his opponent. Instead of fighting back and show he's the one who should be stamping his authority all over, he let the guy back, and he slips away. It's just sad to see matches getting thrown away like that... He's been on tour long enough, not to make these sort of mistakes. I think this is where Federer is so much stronger than his opponent - mental strength. Andy knows it, but he's just not practising it...

Ok... I've just realised this has gone completely off-track - lol! Meh~

Meh not really the case this year. Lleyton has really stunk it up in the smaller events without Roger in them (events he should have been focusing a bit more on because those are the ones he can really WIN). If Federer didn't exists who knows Andy might have been the solid #1 and have been winning GS titles left right and center.:p

Oz might be too slow for him to win. He should have played better in the Hewitt semi. He probably would have beaten Marat but who knows. Wimbledon and USO are his best picks. Picking up Madrid or Paris or the Cup would help him greatly for next year.

I once thought he would win it due to his kick serve on that surface but that Hewitt match in which he really should have won considering all that Hewitt went through prior to that match left major doubts about him winning that major. I do think he will come close again in the future.
