Davis Cup

Hey peeps :) :wavey:

I just wondered if there is a PAW Davis Cup?

I currently run the PAW Fed Cup on WTA World and I would be happy to start a Davis Cup and run it if there isn't one already?

I recognise a few of your names from WTA World - I haven't come on here as much because I am mainly a WTA fan - but I plan to come on here more and start playing ATP PAW more :)

If there isn't a PAW Davis Cup as of yet - let me know - and also it would be good to mirror the PAW Fed Cup, ie 2-5 players on a team etc. If you are interested and have at least 2 members from a country then say so here. I know raquel would probably be happy to form team Great Britain with me :p

Please post your nationalities here :) :wavey:

That's a good idea, andrew :wavey:

Maybe we can start from next year, and from now, we can create a thread asking everyone to post their nationalities.

I think I won't be able to participate in Davis Cup, as far as I notice, I am the only INA player here in ATP PAW

I can't believe how different the nationalities are on here! Only 1 Indonesian PAW player?

The Fed Cup and Davis Cup would be great to have as many countires as possible - The Fed Cup has a World Group 1 and 2 for 2006 as well as a zone 1 competition - but the more countries we have the sooner we can make it exactly the same as the real Fed Cup. South American players are very few in WTA PAW so if you are South American and like women's tennis please join WTA World as soon as you can :)

The same applies to the Davis Cup - the more the merrier! :) :wavey:

Hi andrew :wavey:

I once had an idea to run a PAW Davis Cup but it never materialized... I think it was 2 years ago before PAW expanded to the ATP...

I also had a few ideas to improve the format of Fed Cup PAW, so maybe it will be better to try them here first... with all respect, we don't have to copy everything from WTA...

The coming off-season is IMO the right time to discuss new ideas and suggestions for this great game...

what d'ya think?

Would be great to have a PAW Davis Cup. I can help with it.I think that groups should be like in Davis Cup (not like Fed Cup).

I think that 4 best players (from PAW Ranking) that apply should take part of the team. And the team can change every Round?

Anyway, I think it's a great idea!

I mean that if we have more than 16 nations, then those nations that plays in DC World Group will be directly accepted, or something like that. I would like to know WTAWorld Fed Cup PAW system and rules :S

i've sent 2 PM's to andrew_uk but have no answer.

It seems andrew-uk has abandoned this initiative...

I would have done it, but the dates of 1st round this year are not suitable for me, because of another sport event that takes place once in 4 years... so I could either start from the 2nd round, or wait till next year... unless someone else will take up the task of managing the 1st round... I could help with ideas of the competition format and organization until February 10th 8PM CET...
At this time I wouldn't be worried that there will be more than 16 countries competing... The problem right now is to find someone to organize it, and we'll soon run out of time...

I can take the management of 1st Round, but I don't know most of rules 'couse I couldn't found them at WTAWorld

Cervantes

How 'bout we start of with the first round and go on from there. My suggestions:

- 16 national teams
- team consists of 4 players
- play only world group and world group playoffs
- play only singles
- first round are 32 singles matches, which means 13 picks per teammember
- best 8 teams qualify for 2nd round

Problem: how to form teams at such short notice. Any suggestions?

andrew_uk
02-05-2006, 08:31 PM
Omg I thought it started in March!

I'll make a committments thread - a country will need to have at least 2 players. Committment deadline will be Thursday - if we get 8 teams we can have a draw - if more than 8 then we can do a league and the top teams go through to the next round :) :wavey:

Great Britain - I signed up on committment thread for PAW Davis cup aswell.

Cervantes

Each team will nead a minimum of 2 maximum of 5 players and then reserve players if necessary.

I don't understand. What happens when a team of 2 plays a team of 5 players? Sounds unfair to me.

(quote is from commitment thread)

andrew_uk

When they do the calculations, the number of players on a team are taken into account:

Team of 2 players: their 2 total points are averaged.
Team of 3 players: the best 2 players total points are averaged.
Team of 4 players: the best 3 players total points are averaged.
Team of 5 players: the best 3 players total points are averaged.

1st Round Official Results

..1 Thailand........ 185

..3 Indonesia....... 159
..4 Germany......... 147
..5 Gibraltar....... 122.5
..6 Singapore....... 120
..7 Netherlands..... 109.5

The top 8 countries will go through to the knock out stages, the draw will be made soon with the seeds based on the positions of the 1st round, so Thailand will be the top seeds :) :wavey:

Thank you all so much for playing, I apologise for not being able to have a table after each day but because I had such a busy time this weekend it meant I could only produce a table after the final day.

Thanks to everybody who participated - I look forward to seeing the top 8 in April. Those who did not make it into the top 8 will be invited back to the Davis Cup in 2007.

Thank you all so much again! :) :wavey:
What about the team members? Should be the same for 1st RD or Have to commit again? If that's the case, I COMMIT AGAIN TO BE PART OF ARGENTINE TEAM
