 Oh well, I guess he has to move on to Nottingham now.

Igor Andreev in Round 1, lets just hope that Ivo isn't exhausted.

I agree with you croat123 in the Newport forum that Ivo should play there, where he will be a seed and get a decent draw instead of playing the swiss Clay tournament where he may have to even go through qualifying.

But good luck in Nottingham!

croat123
06-12-2005, 05:52 PM
honestly, if he wants a title, he should ask for a wc there. the top seed will be dent and dent just isn't nearly as solid on his serve as ivo is.

Papakori
06-12-2005, 06:53 PM
Yes, while if he plays in the clay tournament, there are specialist like Gaudio there who thrive on clay and Ivo won't last long at all!

Regarding tomorrow, Ivo isn't scheduled to play so hopefully he rests well where I guess he will play on Tuesday.

For a title, I think he has a great chance at Nottingham also!

There was a nice article of Ivo in the general message forum:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4088664.stm

Lastly; some quotes from Ivo about his season and today

"I have to say that this is the best I've played on grass."

And of Wimbledon draw;

Last year I was pretty unlucky with the draw because I had to play Roger, Federer who is almost unbeatable on grass," said Karlovic, who is unseeded for Thursday's SW19 draw.

"But if the draw is kind to me I can certainly do better."

I am really nervous about Ivo's match!

Just found another article:

NOTTINGHAM, England (AFP) - Big-serving Ivo Karlovic hammered out his position as a dangerman at next week's Wimbledon with a rapidfire 6-4, 6-4 opening win at the Nottingham grasscourt tournament.

The 6ft 10in Croatian, who has reached successive grasscourt finals at Surbiton and Queen's Club in the run-up to Wimbledon, took just 59 minutes to beat Russia's Igor Andreev.

Karlovic, who knocked out defending champion Lleyton Hewitt at the 2003 Wimbledon, sent down 11 aces in his win on Tuesday.

"If I play well I have got a chance of winning Wimbledon - I feel I am now playing the best I have ever played on grass," said Karlovic who will be one of the unseeded players that the big stars will want to avoid when the Wimbledon draw is made on Thursday.

"Last year I was pretty unlucky with the draw because I had to play Federer who is almost unbeatable on grass.

"But if the draw is kind to me this year I can certainly do better than I did last year."

And Karlovic believes he has another good reason to fancy his chances of upsetting the odds at Wimbledon after watching countryman Goran Ivanisevic romp to the title as a wild card in 2001.

"I take my inspiration from what Goran achieved in 2001. For a man from such a small country as Croatia to become Wimbledon champion is unbelievable."

Karlovic has hit form at the right time as he bids to build on last week's superb victories over Hewitt and Thomas Johansson at Queen's.

Prior to his run to the final at Surbiton two weeks ago he had lost in the first round of eight consecutive tournaments going back to the beginning of March.

But his grass-court expertise is now beginning to make his prospective Wimbledon rivals sit up and take notice.

Experienced Belarussian Max Mirnyi, who enjoyed a 6-2, 6-0 first-round win over Sargis Sargsian of Armenia, said: "It would be strange if Ivo were not one of the favourites for Wimbledon.

"He has such a big serve and has done so well in the last couple of weeks that his chances must be very good."

he is playing next week in china. he plays gimblestob first round (nadal next)

good draw. he should definately beat justin and i think he has exactly the type of game that nadal can't handle on a surface that isn't clay

Thanks a lot! :smooch: So he only plays doubles or nothing again? :bigcry: Do you know why DC captain doesn't consider him as a single player? In fact I even think he should play 2 single matches instead of Mario's 2 single or 1 Mario's + 1 Ivan's.I am their both fan,but have to admit that one is not consistent enough, the other is injured. :o

Anemic ace count dooms Rusedski in Madrid

Madrid (dpa) - Greg Rusedski came up short in an ace duel with Croatian Iva Karlovic, crashing out in a war of nerves and serves 6-7 (5), 7-6 (2), 7-6 (3) Tuesday in the first round of the 2.1-million-euros Madrid Masters.
The Briton was able to produce just nine aces, compared to an imposing 24 for Karlovic, a giant of 2.08 metres. The unseeded Rusedski, ranked 38th, complained that it just wasn't his day and vowed to try to re-group next week in St Petersburg.

"You couldn't have written a worse draw this week - Karlovic, altitude, quick courts," said the 32-year-old, due to become a father in late January with plans to skip the Australian Open that month. "It was probably the hardest of the first-round draw by far. He was pretty immaculate. With this altitude, being 500 metres above sea level, his serve's even that much more faster.”

"He creates angles nobody else does because he's nearly seven feet tall. It's not fun for anybody to play him." Rusedski dropped to 2-2 in the series against Karlovic, who will serve as opening opponent for second seed Andy Roddick Wednesday after a bye handed to all 16 seeds.

"I have to give him credit, he served fantastically well." Rusedski added: "It's obviously a little disappointing this week because I felt I've been playing pretty well. It's one of those matches that you just don't take. But he came up with the goods when it counted."

A pair of lower-ranking seeds advanced in the first of the second-round matches after byes. Spain's number 11 David Ferrer defeated Argentine qualifier Agustin Calleri 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 while U.S. Open semi-finalist Robby Ginepri, seeded 16, left France without a player in the field through his defeat of Sebastien Grosjean 4-6, 6-4., 6-4.

Both of Belgium's Rochus brothers won first-round encounters, with Christophe defeating Frenchman Gael Monfils 6-4, 6-4 and Olivier putting out Czech Tomas Berdych 1-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-3.

ivo also won the fastest serve competition they were having there -

'Wednesday was the final of the Fast Serve Championships, where four amateur finalists qualified. Kevin Jackson of Orange County, Calif. led the hopefuls after knocking down a 140 mph blast (that had to land inside the service box). With first place grand prizes of a giant Panasonic flat-screen TV, Jet Blue Travel Vouchers and a Murrey Pool Table on the line to the winner, Jackson looked to have the top prize sewn up.

Until Dr. Ivo made a house call on Stadium Court.

The winning Fast Serve competitors needed to also beat the participating pros, which included Croatian giant "Dr." Ivo Karlovic of Croatia. Karlovic captured the top prize on his final serve, knocking down a gasp-inducing 142 mph bomb in front of the Stadium Court crowd after missing his first four deliveries.'

Karlovic aces first test

6-10 Croatian is heating up before Nasdaq

By Charles Bricker
South Florida Sun-Sentinel
Posted March 16 2006

SUNRISE · One more big boomer would settle this. One more serve "out of a tree," as Andy Roddick once described it.

Ivo "The Ace Machine" Karlovic, tallest player on the ATP Tour, went into his pre-toss rocking motion Wednesday and blasted the final shot of this one hour and 30 minutes of tedious two-ball rallies at Chris Guccione's ample body, handcuffing the red-headed Aussie to win 7-6 (5), 6-4 and earn a spot in the second round of the $100,000 BMW Championship.

You don't need to ask Karlovic's height. He's had "6'10'' embroidered at the neck of his sleeveless tennis shirts, though some time next week, before or perhaps during the Nasdaq-100 Open, he could slip into a Heat jersey for a shootaround with Shaquille O'Neal and the lads.

His agent is working on that gig, and he'll find a receptive ear from assistant coach Bob McAdoo, who is more than a bit crazy about tennis.

The big Croatian, seeded fourth, now plays veteran Paraguayan Ramon Delgado today. Delgado advanced along with No. 2 Dmitry Tursunov, No. 3 Andreas Seppi, No. 5 Alberto Martin, No. 6 Florian Mayer and Peter Luczak, who beat one of the tournament favorites, Rainer Schuettler, 6-4, 6-4.

Karlovic's 17 aces won't add to his tour-leading 255 because this is a Challenger and not a regular tour event.

Karlovic faced three break points, all in the same game of the second set, and defended all of them. The only break of the match came on Guccione's final service game, when, at 30-30, Karlovic smacked a forehand that hit the net cord and jumped over the 6-7 Aussie. On break point, Guccione double-faulted.

With a growing number of foreign players in the NBA, Karlovic won't look out of place in a Heat practice session, even if it has been some time since he has played basketball.

But, he insisted, "I can shoot." For the first time at Nasdaq this year, Karlovic is going to feel at home. He and his wife, Alsi, have moved to Aventura. He and coach Tarik Benhabiles, Andy Roddick's first professional coach, train at the Nasdaq site at Key Biscayne.

Ivo's not playing those because he has played in 10 tournaments already this year, , he is in the davis cup team and is preparing for Monte Carlo (for which i believe he will have to qualify  ). The Clay Season is almost upon us so i think he will also be practicing on his least favourite surface!

Probably he wanted to take break after two weeks of grusome tennis.
Plus he also not in Hamburg Qualifying list.(He is the no 6 in alternative list of draw). Let's hope some guys will pull out.

But the good news is Ivo Karlovic is playing in ARAG World Team Cup in Dusseldorf Germany. Atleast he can get some practice before French Open.

I'm little dissapoited that he pulled out of Rome because it is the fastest Clay Surface on the tour.(Roddick fired upto 149 mph speed last year and also people like Sampras, Ivanisevic had sucess here).
