Not sure how many of you know of him, but Becker had a very good career at Baylor University (that's in Texas). He now is trying the Challenger Circuit, lost a close match earlier this week to Jeff Morrison (who has beena pro for quite a while). I have E-Mailed with Benjamin a few times, seems like a good guy. Hope he can move up and eventually play some ATP.

I saw him play 3 matches last week on his way to win a future in Canada. He is like 550th in the ranking but he plays better than that. I enjoyed watching him play. I didn't talk to him, but he seems to be a nice guy. Taking pictures with kids, etc.
I hope too to see him play on the ATP.

He's playing that good at the moment:

Last week in Dallas he achieved the semifinals as a qualifier in singles and this week in Joplin he already got the semis - again as a qualifier (in doubles he's already in the finals)!

Wow... :)

Good season for him, it's interesting how he will play in Europe :)

Benjamin Becker is playing in the countrywide classic at UCLA now. I watched him since last Sunday when he was still playing in the qualifying match. He won three days in a row. Unfortunately, he lost today. I really want to see him play more. He is such a good player.

Roddick said the sentence that he was glad he didn't kill Bambi himself (Agassi) but only the guy who killed bambi (Becker).

Roger Federer called himself Captain Wasabi in his blog on atptennis.com, cause he eats lots of sushi and played a trick on Mirka, where he put a lot of wasabi (really scharfes Zeug) on Mirkas food.

Clearer now?

A good rise for sure, I hope he keeps it up!

I currently would see good chances for him to play with Haas in singles at the beginning of next season for the first round in Davis Cup if the German team does not choose clay. You never know what Kühnen selects, but Becker makes a mentally more stable impression than Kohlschreiber, Mayer or Phau, has a better form than Schüttler anyway and his better serving should help him for an indoor tie. But I understand it would be quite a big task. Being no member at all, ranked very low until half a year ago and then suddenly play singles against a strong opponent like Croatia

Somewhat right, but I doubt Kiefer would be a good option already. It would pretty much depend upon how well he can start into the season after his long injury break. So I think in Febuary he might still have to find his game and so. We just have to see and wait.

That translation website did a good job. The only thing is: Saarland isn't his hometown, it's his home state. But it's a very tiny state, one of the smallest in Germany, so you can indeed call it a town.

This is the complete interview from sr website (SR ist Saarland radio)

Tennis professional Benjamin Becker from Orscholz has recently climbed up to 58 in the world ranking. Now he hopes to join German Davis Cup team and to enter the top 50.

SR: Herr Becker, this morning you came back from Ukraine. How were things going down there?

Benjamin Becker: I was in Dnepropetrobsk and lost the final. I didn't really expect to reach the final so I am quite satisfied though. But of course you are a little bit disappointed if you play a final and lose it. You want to win the last match, too.

SR: Yesterday you played another final. And you won that one. How did you get the news that you are Saarland's sportsman of the year?

Becker: I got a short message on my cellphone. I was sitting in my hotel room and suddenly I received several SMS at one time from my friends who congratulated me.

SR: You are not living in Saarland for some years now. But you surely still are a Saarlander?

Becker: Yes, of course. I lived here 20 years and I always come back.
I studied in the US but I come home as often as possible. It is a great honour for me to be elected as sportsman of the year.

SR: The tournament is over. Are you planning vacations now?

Becker: Yes, that's the first thing on my list now. I will recover one week, but I won't have more time for that. I have to prepare for the next year, especially for the Australian Open which are beginning in january.

SR: Have you made a exact plan for the complete year?

Becker: Yes, I decided which tournament I'll play some weeks ago together with my coach. Now I now which events I'm probably going to play. Of course it's always possible that I will have to make some changes - for example if I can't play a tournament due to an injury.

SR: What's the latest news concerning Davis Cup? People have been talking about you joining the team. In february Germany is playing against Croatia. What about that?

Becker: Of course I dream of being part of the Davis Cup team. I am frequently in contact with German team captain Patrik Kühnen. He just sent me a short message congratulating me for the Dnepropetrovsk final. But now I'll concentrate on my next tournaments. I know that if I can keep my level of playing or even improve in the first weeks of the next year I'll surely be one of the players who have a chance to be in the team.

SR: You are a professional player for nearly one year now. In that first year you already played that extraordinary match against Agassi. At that time you looked relatively calm. What's your view on that event now?

Becker: I am surprised that I was that calm. Acting on the court was really difficult - to stay cool in that atmosphere and with the media and so on... I think I did quite well in that situation. But all that things happened that quickly that I didn't have time to realise what was going on. Looking back from now it was a great experience and the highlight of the year.

SR: You thought a long time about the question wether you should become a tennis professional or not. After one year: Was it a good decision?

Becker: Absolutely! It was a very good decision. It was my coach in the US who persuaded me. He said: Just try it for one or two years. Otherwise you might regret it one day that you didn't even try. Now it went very well and I'll try hard to go forward.

SR: This week you're ranked 58 in the wordl. What ranking do you want to achieve in future? Top 20 or top 10?

Becker: I am always setting short time goals for myself. For the next year it's top 50.

SR: What would have happened if you hadn't become a tennis professional?

Becker: That's a good question. I had one year left to study. I had planned to think about my future after my decision not to become a tennis professional. I considered moving to Dallas because I like that city very much. I would have looked for a job there either in the tennis branch or in economics what I studied.

SR: Did you finish your studies?

Becker: I have one term left. In the beginning of last year I did one semester in correspondence courses. But to finish I have to be present at the university. But I hope I'll have to wait some years to that because that would mean I have some more successful years in tennis. But I'll surely finish my studies.

SR: When you started studying you must have had special career plans?

Becker: I studied finances and international economics and always have been very interested in the stock markets. That's why I wanted to have a brief look at this, acquire a lot of knowledge and try out what's possible there.

SR: After your tennis career, will you work in the US or come back to Saarland?

Becker: I don't yet know. The longer I stayed in the US the better I felt there. But of course it's always the most beautiful thing to come home... At the moment I think I want to come back to my home region.

ROFL. I think you mean 2007! ;)

Hey everyone, :wavey:

I just read an article (http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/columnists/sfl-spbrickten19dec20,0,7182953.column) on Becker from a newspaper in Florida. What great improvements this kid made in 2006 -- from 421 to 58! I'm def going to be cheering for him next year!!

Another question: Why are there only boards for Haas and Kiefer? Maybe this is another thread, and I don't know how MTF does it, but why isn't there a section for Mayer, Becker and Kohlschreiber? I was thinking that maybe they only have boards for top 50, but I just went into the Spanish Armada section and there's a board for Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.

Fight for your players German fans! :)

Hey guys,

Just read a really great article + interview on Becker on TennisWeek.com (http://www.sportsmediainc.com/tennisweek/index.cfm?func=showarticle&newsid=16497&bannerregion=)... Despite the fact that the guy asked him about the Agassi match twice (alzheimers?), it was really interesting. I didn't know much about his personal life story. He seems really smart and well-spoken.

Great to see him winning in Delray and making the German DC team. I think this kid's gonna be huge this year.

Unfortunately the last match of the encounter between Germany and Croatia wasn't shown on German tv and therefore I don't know what happened in Bennis match against Cilic.

He mentioned after his match against Ljubicic that he was nervous because of his first match in DC and the whole situation.

I think it is always hard to concentrate for a match when the encounter of DC has already been decided and maybe Benni was just a bit lost in thoughts in his last match.

http://www.sportsmediainc.com/tennisweek/index.cfm?func=showarticle&newsid=16537&bannerregion=

Tennis Week: Age you started playing tennis?

Benjamin Becker: "Eight."

Tennis Week: First tennis memory?

Benjamin Becker: "Watching Boris Becker play the Australian Open when I was eight-years-old. Against Ivan Lendl, 1-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 [smiles]. That's when I started playing.:

Tennis Week: Tennis inspiration?

Benjamin Becker: "Boris Becker."

Tennis Week: Favorite all-time player?

Benjamin Becker: "It's a tough one. The one I followed the most was Boris Becker, so I would have to say him. I was also a fan of Sampras and Federer now. So I don't really have one guy. But Boris was my inspiration. [Did you meet him yet?] No."

Tennis Week: Best match you've seen?

Benjamin Becker: "The best match that comes to mind is the recent one I watched — Moya and Baghdatis in Sydney."

Tennis Week: Pre-match superstition?

Benjamin Becker: "I only tie my shoes on the court [smiles]."

Tennis Week: What car do you drive?

I think this dude is freaking amazing. Although he lost to Ljubijic at the Davis Cup, he was busting out inside-out forehands, lobs and great court positioning. To me, because of the way he takes the ball early and places the ball so well, he reminds me a little of Martina Hingis. I throw that comparison around a lot, but aside from some of Ben's shots, the way he positions his body when he prepares to strike the ball resembles Hingis' preparation before hitting the ball. I'm a fan. And it's even more impressive that this is only his second or third year on tour. :worship: *applause*

Benni sign on a three-year contract by clothing line "Boris Becker.
this is brom his HP.

Thursday, May 17, 2007
Two generations of German tennis join to form an unbeatable team!
Renaissance Tennis Management is proud to announce the new sponsor of their Number One player Benjamin Becker: At the Masters tournament in Hamburg Benjamin signed a 3-year contract with his long time idol Boris Becker to endorse his new clothing line "Boris Becker".

"With his amazing success in his first year on the ATP tour year, being named the ATP Newcomer of the year and sharing the same initials "BB", Benni is the perfect testimonial for this new clothing line", says Norman Canter, founding partner and Managing Director of RTM.

Because of the famous and legendary initials "BB", Benjamin was always asked if there is any relationship between him and Boris. Until now, Benni had to negate this question: "It is like a dream come true", says Benjamin. "I started playing tennis because of Boris when I was a little kid. Now, I'm wearing his name on my shirt, when I walk out on the court. I'm feeling very honored".

I didn´t understand why he played on clay this week.

I think so very much.
His wears sponser may make him so that??
I wanted to watch in Newport tounament on grass at last week.
There were not many high ranking players there.
Benni may have taken the tittle.
