I just came across it accidentally, on a break from watching "Threshold". I hope they rerun it.

The small part I saw was him thowing a fit during a Wimbledon match because of growing darkness. They suspended the match which he won the next day. I didn't get the year, his age or who his opponent was.

The match was against Charlie Passarell in the first round at Wimbledon, 1969. As you say the match took place over 2 days with Pancho eventually winning 22-24, 1-6, 16-14, 6-3, 11-9. The match lasted a total of 5hours 12minutes. Pancho Gonzalez was aged 41 at the time of the match.

I read somewhere the match was repeated at one of the rain delays at Wimbledon 1999.
Is it true? Anyone does the footage have?

Yeah, I saw the Spike TV show. Met Ricardo in real life too!

I'm presently shelterless...but I bought a day's stay in a hotel that had cable when I found out that show was coming on, you can bet!

Here's my tribute to Pancho thread, on another bulletin board:

Richard: Wow. I'm very impressed by your passion for the history of the game, particularly relating to Gonzalez. Btw, I thought the Spike film was surprisingly good. The Tennis Channel has also been airing a documentary of Gonzalez over the past year which is also worth checking out if you're able to see it. It's from 1969 and it actually follows Pancho around for about a week during a tournament he plays. It shows him at home with his family as well as on court against players such as Arthur Ashe and others...

Viva Pancho Gonzalez!
