Fantastic match from both players. andre "old man" played with the best wheels we have seen in years and years.

Losing the TB was the death knell. It was honestly quite heartbreaking to see andre, as generous as always, at the net, congratulate Roge. It was a truly valiant effort by the veteran, he had Roge "by the balls" for a big chunk of the third set. But hats off to Roge, what a brilliant last two sets and the TB was outstanding.

Congratulations Roger Federer USO CHAMPION!!!!

Anyone without TV (I hope there are not too many such unfortunate people) or just want to comment during the match.

:haha: you think someone that does not have a TV would have a computer? If you said anyone without TV Coverage of USO, that would of made more sense.

Oh.... yes, correct. I mean coverage

But also, many students do not have a TV but have access to a computer in the lab. I know this was my case hundred years ago when I was a student

I do not believe this is going to be an easy match for Roge or andre. I hope anyway that it is competitive. I would like for Roge to win, but I do not want any onesided match and one that is not interesting or has any humiliation or such. Lets hope for some very good and fair tennis! And the crowd must behave

So what is Agassi's game plan going to be? Try to run Federer side to side and zero in on his backhand? Hasn't worked too well lately. It seems like the last few times they've played Agassi hasn't used his backhand DTL enough, giving too much respect to Fed's forehand. I know its a risky play and just begging Fed to slam a winner crosscourt, but he has to try something different....

Yes I think he will use whatever means to control the rally, harder done than said. Roge will try to run around BH when he can (although if his BH fires well like with nalbandi match then the BH can create problems by drawing andre to net)

Hey guys! Unfortunately I cant watch the match, MAJOR bummer! Just logged into livescore and MTF hoping that you guys can keep me updated! Has it started yet??? I really really want Andre to win this one! But realistically I dont think he has a chance! Fed should just let Ags have it, this story needs a fairytale ending! Sue Ellen, not started yet. Here is a small recap so far

they had a sentimental clip on andre, his passage here, and his past life at the USO from late 1980s. It was nicely done
They had a very small non-senti clip on Roge, showed his loss at USO to andre. Roge looking very thin, young, pony tail --nice memories. Saying he is the dominant person in tennisetc

Tehn, James taylor sings America the Beautiful and a fly-by 4 aircrafts

Moment of silence for 9/11 victimes

Now the crowd is going NUTS

Anybody watching this on Eurosport? (I hate most of their commentators, though...I'll switch to La Deux when/if they start showing this match): It's not often you get to hear Federer talk in German (most of the time, it's English or French).

R.Federer

No did not get to see lendl here yet (I am sure they will tune in to him later)

MaryJo asked Roge first

Roger how do you feel about playing the open against Agassi, you never played him in a final of a slam before

ALRIGHT: ALL YOU NAYSAYERS.

This is a match of the highest quality. FROM BOTH SIDES. andre is huffing and puffing and gets 100/100 for effort. he saved SEVEN set points. Roge is playing very well, and needs to keep it up to win. We DO HAVE A MATCH ON OUR HANDS!!!!

AgassiFan
09-11-2005, 10:21 PM
80% 1st serve from Fed? Are you kidding me?

Anyway, a respectable set from Agassi. But he lost it 6-3 and so they might as well stop the match because without a MONUMENTAL collapse from Federer, Andre is not coming back.

R.Federer

Blowe, you must also look at number of winners he has --19 compared to 9 for andre.

Agassifan, you cannot give up on your man like that. If there is one thing he showed in those 8 set points, is that he is not going away. Roge is going to have to PUT HIM AWAY.
Roge is playing exceptional. but andre is also playing good.

Despite Andre's age, I still believe he's a better player from the back of the court than Federer. His backhand is a much more consistant than Federer's and has arguably as strong a forehand. Although, Federer's movement is superior, Agassi takes the ball much earlier, thus allowing him to dominate the rallies. If Agassi's executes as he can, I still believe he's more than capable of winning this match espeically b/c Federer doesn't have a sampras like serve so is very breakable

AA 1st serve % has dropped from 70% 1st set to 50% this set & he's still up 4-1. He's gotten back to what worked so well the first set, as I noted. Pound away til you get a weak reply, then race to net & put it away. Held easily doing that.
