anyone else reminded of 2001?

that year another legend of the game had failed to win a grand slam and people were saying he never would again. but he came to fushing meadows and once again produced some of the highest standard tennis we had ever seen. his name pete sampras...

but what happened in the end? he reached the final and met a man who had beaten him the last 2 times they had played and once again, the older man was dominated by his younger opponent. whilst the sampras-hewitt match-up is very different from the federer-agassi, i feel we are about to witness the same end result. that being...

the old man having nothing left and being dominated in a depressinglhy one-sided final.

sure... lets hope your right and Federer molests him out there today,
and Agassi might win the Open in 06 and retire ;)

would hate to see agassi get demolished tonight. would have been better for him to lose one of the 5 setters, than to end the tournament being humiliated.

i dont think he'll be demolished ... in every slam final he's played (not including Roland Garros) he's 7-4 (with the 4 defeats coming to Sampras) and 2 of those were close four setters..
Andre seems to produce good stuff in slam finals, like fed.
i think it'll be a 4 setter which could go either way

Interestante. I did not think much of 2001, but based on other comments of posters some are thinking more of 2002 when pete has come alive after terrible setbacks to win against the odds.
I hope it is not 2002 or any other year, but well : 2005! Roge wins US Open!

it will only be 2002 if agassi trusts himself and doesn't change his game too much. he needs to serve well and hit his spots, whilst ending the points quickly. it's pointless in him charging the net at any point because federer will whip them past him all day long. focus your attack on the federer backhand and then hit hard and i mean hard, to win the point to his forehand.

agassi needs one of the matches of his life and for federer to be off top-form. but ultimately if federer is serving well, its his match to win!

Even if he gets destroyed in straight sets , it is an overall well achievement for a 35 year old guy. You can't expect him to beat the worlds number 1 player in a grand slam final when he couldn't do it in his prime against Sampras .

Andre has a good record in grand slam finals but, if he can't win, who can?

Will Roger ever loose a final?

Agassi needs to get the crowd backing him up. He'll get more motivation and confidence that will keep him steady during the match. Also if Andre exploits Roger's backhand, unleashes some drop shots on critical points to wear down Federer, we're going see a good game stretching out to 5 sets.
