I think Nadal was bagelled by Gaudio in South America. I think Gaudio was bagelled by Nadal in the same match :tape:

That's the last time I remember Nadal being bagelled, but Gaudio has been since then... by Nadal. I think.

Federer - first ever Slam match v Rafter, RG 99. Lost 7-5, 0-6, 3-6, 2-6. I think his other bagel was a few weeks before against Vinny Ice in Monte Carlo, where he lost 6 and 0.

Coria by Fat Dave at the AO this year? 6-0 in the fourth, I believe.

Agassi's was of course against Nieminen at RG this year, but that had an awful lot to do with his back injury.

:topic: did you catch the federer-nalbandian match?

Yes, and before you say anything else, Nalbandian was below par it seemed to me. Mind you, Federer was more solid in the rallies than I was expecting.

i made the point when we were chatting about it before the match though...
nalbandian is often below par.

But rarely against Federer - that TMC match seemed like an aberration to me, and it's worth pointing out that his performance here was nowhere near as bad as that. The big difference is that Federer is a lot more disciplined on Naba's service games than he used to be in the past. Nalbandian could throw his serve away before back in 2003 and still win the match, because he then could break Federer in response and Federer would get frustrated and eventually make no headway on Dave's serve. Now, he makes him play on a consistent basis and with Federer making fewer errors in the rallies, Nalbandian struggles to find ways to establish a winning tactic.

that's the point. federer is much better than he used to be, specifically mentally. nalbandian has not improved at all!

Yep. I wasn't convinced of that until Thursday night, though, just because they haven't matched up against each other on court for so long now. I still feel Federer has to walk a tightrope in the rallies, Petch pointed out he couldn't give Nalbandian too much pace to feed off and instead he had to just get the ball back with little pace on it, often times doing all the retrieving, and either wait for a Naba UE or else goad him into dropping the ball short so Federer could suddenly accelerate to hit the winner. It's certainly a play he hasn't had to use against most other opponents.

And what's with Safin?

Sjengster

Ginepri, 2003 IW. But again, the food poisoning he had there played a factor in that score.

Another interesting question is, which of the newcomers didn't get bageled in their first year on tour...?

the issue is he can find a way to beat people, and he will continue to dominate against nalbandian from here on in i think. to be fair he has already won their last 3 meetings, losing only one set in the process.

federer will have much bigger challengers in the upcoming years than nalbandian, who has too many big weaknesses...

I think Kiefer beat him 0 and 6 in Indianapolis last year, a shocking score even though Kiefer is a good returner. It must have been a bad serving day from Ivo.

It appears that Gaudio wins the prize for taking them. Let's all act surprised, shall we?

I made a mistake it seems
Both Coria and Nadal win Bakers of the Year (each giving out 2)
(Both receive a bagel also, which is strange)

I also made a mistake, as I also overlooked Coria. They can bake together. Interesting that they both dished out a bagel in a match that they lost. I suppose that Coria actually takes the prize, since he bagelled Nadal once ;)

That's the last time I remember Nadal being bagelled, but Gaudio has been since then... by Nadal. I think.coria bagelled nadal more recently...on clay. coria handed out more bagels than anyone but nadal (thanks for that list, vincayou! :yeah: ) but ate FEWER than nadal, in fact was only eating one once...he ate naldbandian's bagel, but he was down 2 sets to 1 and it was already past 2 in the morning!!! he wanted to get off the court; that match should have been suspended to the next day after the second set.
