Guillermo "BAD BOY" Coria vs. Robby "ON FIRE" Ginepri, who is gonna win tommorrow.

i think that if coria focus a bit more in his serve, and plays like he did in the first rounds, he is gonna trouble ginepri. on the other hand if he plays like he did against massu, he is gonna loose in straight sets.
ginepri is going to keep on playing great, as he did during all the last matches he played.

I think Ginepri has more power and can go for winners instead of counter punching so he is likely to win. Coria would have return extremely well and frustrate Ginepri with drop shots in order to have a chance.

Given the way Guille served last round, I'd have to go for Ginepri.

But I'd love it if he made it into the SF.

If Coria works Ginepri's nerves he'll win.

Coria would have return extremely well and frustrate Ginepri with drop shots in order to have a chance. that statement defines coria's game! ;) ...and ginepri has that meatballs-for-brains brawny power game that coria loves to de-rail and run into the ground. coria in 3, 6-2 7-5 6-3...if ginepri plays great, coria by 6-2 7-5 4-6 6-3.

but just from background on these two: ginepri has never even made it to a slam QF before last night and has lost in the FIRST round the last FOUR grand slams in a ROW. so he's hot, but hot for him is not such a big deal. it just means he won his FIRST tourney (and that was over dent  ) since 2003, and 2nd total.

meanwhile, coria is one of only three players this year to reach the 4R in every slam event of '05; was one of just 2 (i think it was 2...with fed) players last year to win a tournament on all surfaces: grass, clay and hard court; and has been a year-end top tener 3 years in a row including this one, and already has experience in the SECOND WEEK of grand slam action.

if ginepri could win, it would be simply the biggest win of his entire career. but coria has evenmore motivation, because he is looking ahead and seeing there is very little to stop him from reaching the final of the US Open. Ginepri has never even had the luxury to take that thought seriously before...not even a QF seriously, in fact.

How come more people aren't picking Ginepri? He's been solid all tournament long.

That said, I want the Coria/Agassi semi just for fun!

Jim Courier mentioned that Ginepri is the favourite because he is very fit (a point relevant only if he is fitter than Coria; a highly dubious proposition) and because Coria is a claycourt specialist (prefers clay courts to hard courts). That would make a point if Ginepri performs better than Coria in hard courts. Again, this is not easy to prove. Jim did not score very well in his predictions in A.O. and RG.

Of course, it is not the case that Ginepri stands no chance; if Coria serves as bad as he did against Massu he will lose. Still, considering the match up it is not at all obvious why the odds point to Ginepri being the favourite.

I don't have a preference but I think Ginepri will win. Their games are similar but Ginepri seems to be more consistent. Also, Ginepri's serve will bail him out from tight situations.

Ginepri in 4 sets plus I think he has the edge in hard courts than Coria even though Coria is already slowly adapting to the surface.

Coria was in the quarterfinals here in 2003- so he's not a novice on the surface.

To debunk another myth, like the one I hate all hard hitters and Americans. The weasel is not even in my top 10 of most disliked players.

But yes I have cheered for him against Agassi.

again, ginepri...loser in 4 consecutive first round GS before this USO, now playing in his first ever slam QF. he is not consistent except at losing. have you all gone crazy???

coria made the QF here before, ginepri has never been, AO is on hard court and coria made R16, ginepri was out in the first. coria made the maiami final last year and lost to roddick only after kidney stones, ginepri never made such a final. they're the same age and ginepri has never achieved more than a footnote. Just because ginmepri is ONLY good on hard courts does not mean he has an 'edge' on that surface. coria has more titles on HC, and better results all around, plus experience. ginepri has the crowd on his side, but thats his only calling card in this match. good luck to him.

I actually give Coria kudos when it comes to tennis, the difference is Coria can use his brains, whereas Ginepri there is a question mark and I can see this being like Coria will run him ragged and wrongfoot him, and make him volley that will be interesting in its own way.
